I mean.

-World embargo.
-Mantic comming up with more lines and now scify, though this is still in the making.
-Warmahordes gaining popularity. (not my coup of tea size wise, each to his own).

With all this they are bound to take a hit, so when do we get numbers on that, and what will be the first real figures after the world embargo. I mean, the period right after, they are bound to have some increase sales, and get a considerable impact the one after.

I know this is a slight spelling error, but I love the irony of it. A coup is an overthrow of a system already in place, and being as GW is a British company, and we, as Americans, have already had our own coup against Britain (also involving tea), I find this statement to be ironic, hilarious, and facetious. History-it repeats itself. Thumbs up, soldier

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

GW stock is at an all-time high since the "Week of Terror" regarding embargoes, Failcast, price rises, and other things.

The 'week of terror', failcast, the embargoes, and the recent round of price hikes would not have been reflected in their most recent financial report, either.

The January report will be a very interesting read given that it will be the first one to capture roughly 6 months of those changes.

Week of Terror?

I think I missed something there.

Also worth pointing out that without access to similar facts and figures from the comaparative companies, any linking between losses/gains is purely speculative, no?

What 'world embargo'? No one was able to buy any GW product anywhere?

World embargo? oh you mean whining on forums, no they probably dont care, if I was a CEO at GW I wouldnt care. As long as people bought and I was able make my investors happy with the latest numbers why would I care? I'd be running a business not a hobby club. I havent seen any slow down in buying of 40k products in my town and while they is probably a small fraction of people who stopped buying, its probably not enough to make a difference. After all I could sacrifice infrastructure to make up the loses. Week of Terror? ya whatever. You mean the Week of Hubris and Meowling.

Their latest report showed sales slip by 2.9% adjusted. That report included the new DE and Fantasy releases. It did not include their international policy change and that general month of bad PR.

I expect the January report to be negative.

No. Losses and gains is what will drive their real dollar return and therefore worth as a company. Comparisons will simply make them look better or worse relative to their industry sector.

A bit ironic considering what it is GW is selling.

So. What -exactly- is GW selling? Aside from carte blanche for the the internet derpasaurus brigade to have a daily whinestorming session.

Did you have a bet last New Years to see how many times you could use the word "whine" on Dakka in 2011?

Not a post of yours goes by with out at least using it once.
We'll throw a party for the 500th.

It will be a,"bring your own whine" affair of course

It has to be up there with the most overused word/expression of the year along with "Why all the hate"

"WTF is up with GW prices?" is a given so doesn't count.

Who cares about stock, stock is for people with degrees at gambling, they are gratelly influenced by PR and in many cases have little to no base in reality, just ask enron, leman brothers and the rest of the parasitic gambling gang.

Their numbers might be high, even higher than ever, but compared to i think it was the 2000s, with their price hikes puting their prices at 50% higher than a decade ago, their grose sales are only 25% higher. I do not recall the specifics on the numbers but its easy math with their last statement.

Easy to say it's 'just whining' when you weren't the one effected by the policy changes. The only reason that I don't have at least 2 people on this thread on 'ignore' is because the levity they provide me with in their utterly predictable, one track replies to threads of this nature.

I like 'week of terror', it encapsulates nicely the policy changes that had many, many fans giving a reaction varying from a puzzled scratching of their heads, to downright disgust and movement to another gaming system.

This has all been said before anyway, the true impact of the changes made will be seen in the next sales report. Is it just complaint from the core/hardcore fans (with the 2 notable exceptions who have read out their lines in this thread) or have the pricing and quality issues, amongst other things, crossed a line in the sand as far as the casual gamer is concerned? I suspect it will be somewhere in between, but we will have to wait and see.

In an effort to combat this, I supply this list of synonyms for Worglock to use:

bellyache, carp, drone, fuss, gripe, grouse, grumble, howl, kick, mewl, moan, murmur, pule, repine, snivel, sob, wail, whimper, yowl

Perhaps a bit of variation will brighten everyone's day?

Much better than the usual homonyms
boo hoo and crybaby

local expressions include:
Yu've got a face as lung as Livery Street. (Brummie)
Thees got a reet monk on! (Barnsley South Yorks)

Edit: to be fair we ought ring the changes to describe GW's pricing policy.

erm

wait

nope, none of the epiteths are suitable for a family programme such as Dakka and won't get past the filter.

Edit2: Just realised what is happening. Some of us take the pee and it gets turned into whine

This really made me smile. I have to say that i mewl alot sometimes about all the price hikes and crappy codex that GW releases, but here on dakka dakka there are ALWAYs negative posts and responces that are witty enough to make me howl and moan with laughter. Thnks.

I was discussing the price hikes recently. One of the veteran gamers at my local shop said that GW would end up having to drop their prices again. I responded with skepticism. I cannot recall GW ever dropping their prices. Granted, I have dropped out of the hobby a couple of times and then picked it up months (or years) later. Have I just missed these mythical price drops? Or are they indeed, as I surmised, mere baloney?

I don't remember a time when they ever dropped prices and I've been playing since the beginning of 40K 3rd ed. I heard something about the average price going down when they switched from lead to plastic ages ago, but I don't know the details or if that's true.

In any event, prices are obviously going to have to level out at some point, as theoretically in fifteen years a box of Space Marines will be something like $200, and that's not even taking into account real inflation.

Eh, GW's not for everyone, and it is quite expensive for what it's worth.

For me? Meh, I love the background too much to give up, but I must say I'm tentative over GW's future, if a little.

Actually, given the devaluation of currencies, the value of each stock share is lower than it has been in a very long time.
