RAGE!!!

My keyboard has this oh-so-very-useful X button that, when pressed, closes whatever window you are currently in. Lovely idea, some people are too lazy to move their mouse pointer to the little x in the top/right corner, and I guess pressing alt+f4 is overcomplicating things for some. Not that I will ever use it, but I guess I can live with its existence.

But! I keep accidentally pressing it! Whenever I am in the middle of something important! I was in the middle of cataloguing a book and had to type a lot of information, and before I could save it I accidentally X my browser and now I can start all over again...

RRRRAAAAAAAAAGGGGEEEEE@@!! DIE STUPID BUTTON OF USELESSNESS! JUST DIE!!!
This was the final straw! The last drop! I took my knife, removed the button and put tape over the resulting hole so it can never ever bother me again!
And I will live happily ever after. Yay! :3

Does your keyboard have stupid useless buttons that should just go away and die? Or am I just a noob and should learn to not press stupid buttons at stupid times?

My keyboard is screwed after many tea spills.

The windows key forces a shutdown, the ctrl key mutes the system as well as opening a new chrome and holding w for a seemingly random amount of time closes the game I am currently running.

Wow, I guess me and my little X button are lucky.

I use a tablet most of the time, so I'm often stuck with an on-screen keyboard, prone to god-awful typos.

Modern keyboards have approximately twice the amount of keys as a standard typewriter. It's probably fair to say a few of them are redundant or underused.

I used to have a cheapy keyboard that had a 'power' button on it where some other often used key was. I forget exactly where it was, as this was before I could actually afford good keyboards. Needless to say, it was about 3 hours before I had the key pried off the keyboard and was on my merry way.

Also, I occasionally have to use a mac at the office. The CD tray key screws me up every time, because I can't get around the fact that I have to use it. Why the hell isn't there a button on the tray itself?

I had a keyboard that had a sleep button about half an inch away from the escape key. And it wasn't exactly a small button. Wonderful thing to do when playing Team Fortress 2 or something, go to change a setting and wind up putting your computer in sleep mode...

Honestly, I have more overall problems with key bindings in games than issues with a keyboard. I'm still slightly annoyed that Deus Ex uses F12 for the flashlight key.

Looking at my keyboard, I have the following useless keys:

Volume up, volume down, and a mute button. Typically, this would be useful, but this is a work computer, so there's no speakers hooked up to it.

Keys labeled 1-5 along the top (above the Fs). These open the program in the corrosponding location in the taskbar (1 opens the first program listed, etc). Maybe useful, but, they're in such an awkward place, I alt+tab much quicker.

Above F12, there are three buttons labeled "mail", "web/home", and "messenger". Yeah, they open outlook, firefox, and umm... I'm not sure what messenger opens. But, I'm going to be alt+tabing to them if needed, and you already gave me keys 1-5 that correspond to Outlook and Firefox anyway. How many buttons do I need to access these programs?

Above the num pad, I have buttons that open calculator, logoff, and sleep. Calculator is worthless, as I either need a simple math check that I google, or it's more complicated math that I have to do in excel. Log off and sleep are very annoying. I do these so infrequently (log off once a day, sleep NEVER) that I have no problem going to the start menu to log off.

Finally, the most worthless key of all time. The right Shift key. Really, who uses a shift key on the right? I don't think I've ever hit that key on any keyboard I've ever used.

I like the shift key, and find it most helpful

Sometimes I press ctrl istead of it so a random eveny may happen depending which letter is pressed at the same time.
Including window closure in the middle of typing

My old wireless keyboard had a similar fate. When my son was a wee lad, he decided that the game he was playing, needed a drink of milk too, so he dumped the whole cup of milk into my keyboard, because you push buttons and the game does stuff, so it made sense really. That thing was all kinds of fudup. I think one of the buttons gave you a fisting enema w/o lube. I didnt forget that button after the initial trail of finding out

My current keyboard had a few hotkeys at the top, one of which would shut them computer down. I mean what the hell do you fething need that for? After I caught it accidentally for the third or fourth time I took a screwdriver and popped it out of the keyboard and I've never had a problem since.

I thumped my keyboard in frustration and now I have no volume down key, and can no longer type the letter 'c' (well I can right now because I'm in work'

You'd be suprised how time-consuming it is to use the on-screen keyboard just to type .com into a browser, also most flash games use the arrow keys and ZXC as inputs, so can't play most of them at the moment!

Yeah, c is a very much used key. I used to have a keyboard where the v only worked occasionally when it could be bothered.

Don't bother with that, just highlight an already typed "c" and just copy and paste. It's pretty easy if you just hit Ctrl+... oh... wait... that is a problem...

The windows key gave me fits the first time I had it on a keyboard.

It's right next to the alt key, which I press when I used to play Diablo II to see the loot on the ground.

Accidentally hitting the windows key while playing Diablo II hardcore (where if you die you have to start over) increased my blood pressure and produced a few swear words.

I've always hated the windows key. Then I got a wireless keyboard that gave me the option to disable it. I almost cried.

Said keyboard also has a really awesome little key right over the number pad that pops up the calculator. Very convenient.

I'm just talkin' about Megaweapon.
