Well all the models show they do not. they are bear chested(or nearly) most of the time. But on all the models no armor what so ever.

Well the Tyranids are doing something very wrong now then aren't they? I mean if thier gaunts have carapace plates for armour that is a waste of resources then when they should growing muscles instead, to get the same armour save. No wonder the Cruddance Codex sucks.

They are so hardcore they have no need for armor that is fairly useless with the amount of melta and lascannons out there...

Because armor is useless in Jungle warfare? They are usually fighting in jungle so there have little use of armor there.

Only Matt Ward is putting Catachans into scenarios other then jungle.

The problem is that in Necron codex they were using Catachans to defend a Hive World.
You don't send a jungle fighters into a city fight, for that you need siege army like Krieg. And as I understand Imperium had time to prepare defense, they could call anyone else and they called a Catachans...
That is like using Cadian Regiment to purge world of Daemonic incursions, simply not fitted for that role.

I think the OP means, if they aint in the jungle, why do they still wear little to no armour?

If an Imperial Guard Regiment is nearby they are going to be used. They aren't going to send the Catachans away and then wait for a more appropriate Regiment to arrive because they aren't fighting on a jungle world.

Besides, when do they do that? I remember the Catachan Regiments being sent to a Tomb World by an Inquisitor but that's it.

The Catachan's are a specilist regiment meant for Jungle/Guerilla warfare. They arn't issued with Flak Jackets and only get Flak Vests because of the nature of their fighting style.

They will occasionally get assigned somewhere that their skills arn't quite as useful, but there isn't much that can be done about it. Its better then nobody getting sent at all.

They also might not have time to be issued with heavier Flak Jackets before they need to fight(and the unfamiliar weight could cripple their effectivness)

Specilist regiments are sent to areas of their expertise as a priority, but if they don't have such an assignment avaliable then they arn't going to let able bodied men twiddle their thumbs when they could be killing the enemy.

I think it's really hilarious how people never trip on how the catachans run around everywhere regardless of how temperate the climate is, bare chested with nothing but their pulsating pectorals and massive biceps to comfort them, yet if you ask for a model of a lady commissar with a nice rack you're a douchebag. Oh, the double standards.

I have to agree with you there.

There is no standed armour for the guard only a requerment spec for it, make it cheep but not to cheep.
The planet that raises it would normaly have to equip it as well. and as stated their vests are of a type of flackjacket. So it stands to reason that if a world is a tropical one with smal ice caps north and south, and the reat of it is man eating plants, then you'll need some thing that can with stand the moisture level of near consten rain fall, sweat and mud of that world.

it is, there is plenty of room under those winter coats for ablative flak layers.

When it comes down to it, armor is only worth it if the protection is of greater benifit then the decrease in mobility.

Space Marines solve this by having zero decrease in mobility(actually an increase) from the Servos.

This is the only that that could possably bring copious amounts of armor back into common usage, the mitigation of mobility loss.

even the relativly little amount of armor worn today significantly reduces the mobility of the soldier wearing it, that and the tons of other gear they need to carry. If the armor could carry itself then you would be able to up the amount of armor significantly.

Guardsmen don't get PA so they have to deal with a low amount of protection.

They may have determined that armor is useless in the environments they fight or is ignored by enemies firearms and decided to drop the extra weight. It is similar to what most low drop paratroopers do when they ditch their reserve chutes, because if you main fails, you don't have time to pop the reserve, so they ditch the extra weight.

Or GW wanted an army of little Rambos and I don't mind, they look cool jumping out of my Valkyries
