So I have reached the point where I officially have more models in boxes that are not painted than models that are painted and finished.
Does this happen to anyone else? And what should I do, I feel bad because I got all these great ideas and projects in mind but pretty much no time to finish any of them.
So anyway I guess I'm asking at what point should you face the fact that you need to start selling because you can't finish them all?

I should think pretty much every wargamer has some models unpainted and unfinished - it's just a question of degrees really.
Myself, I have to consciously remind myself not to buy more stuff because quite frankly, I have enough unpainted stuff to last me several decades.

This.
I'll stop collecting miniatures when I'm dead. If I'm done with an army, I'll play it as much as I can. When I'm bored of it, I put it away for a while. If I feel like coming back to it, I will. If I don't, I'll sell it to fund a new army.
It's a vicious cycle.

Man with the most models when he croaks wins. Ever read the fine print on the back of GW and PP boxs? It says and I quote
"Thank you for purchasing this product, now please buy more as we will be looking at your collection when you die to see if you are worthy of ascension into the golden halls of gamers"

The time to stop is when you don't really know why you are buying them.

I'll have you know that I have very specific conversions in mind for each and every miniature that I purchased.
It just happens that I've forgotten most of them.

Are you just trying to pick a fight today. Sure seems that way.
As far as when to stop goes. If you can afford your purchases then go for it. Why set a limit.

I'm kinda at the same point. Most of my army is done cept for a few finer points. I've got a couple other projects to get done. But, I'm also facing that I need bits to see a couple of my projects finished. But, is there a time to stop?
Well, I think that really depends on if you want to get out of the hobby. I enjoy building models so I'll still pick up kits. As to what kind it is always a toss up. If your done with your army and want to work on painting then go ahead. If you want to get out of the game its up to you. But, so long as your happy with what you got. I actually finally completed one project and now am in the planning stages for another.
Its up to you. If you want to stay in the hobby or not. Personally if you have other stuff. Use it for bits. You never know what might come in handy with the stuff you got laying around.

I'm at the same point now too, I have a closet full of unpainted stuff. I used to be the kinda guy who would never field a single unpainted model, but as the years went on and I got a real job & paycheck and could afford more toys, I started getting stuff I know I'll never get around to painting. I could go without buying a single new model for 2 years and still always have something to paint. But I know something big and shiney is right around the corner and I'll soon be adding another box to my closet collection.
The only army I have that I keep all painted is my tyranids, the rest are in different stages of not-done-ness. Trying to focus on my goblins, painting a few at a time but I have 100 of the same model to paint and it starts getting tedious, then stuff like Skyrim or Mass Effect 3 happens and I don't paint anything for a month...

There is much truth in this post.
Friends don't let friend's (Jervis} Johnsons fall off. Buy your friend a model for his birthday.

I've stopped buying models right now just because the painting is light years behind and I want to finish at least 2 armies before thinking of moving on.....
I hate painting.... its the most time consuming part of the whole hobby.... one I suck at to boot.... so it leaves no joy for me....

I quit buying when I had models for all four primary lists I would like to run my Orks with. 1750 lists.

That took a year to do.
I'm about half way done with modeling and painting.

Sounds like you've been at that point for a while.
I kind of feel bad for people that don't have the drive or determination to finish projects they start.
