So recently, more and more people at my local gaming store have stopped playing 40k. More and more people are playing warmachine. The store has also stopped doing any events for 40k, and whenever i ask they encourage me to play warmachine instead, but i really like 40k.
The store is also the closest place that i can find modela and players, and its already a 40 minute drive... While i dont mind painting my models and not playing, i feel like i'm being forced out of my hobby.
I was wondering if anybody had a similar experience, or possibly some advice?

Option 1 : Play some Warmachine, and ask the WM crowd if they want to try 40K for a change of pace
Option 2 : Rustle up some other 40K players in your area that might now know you're out there (Find A Game thread might help, or ask the WM players if anyone they know likes 40K
Option 3: Find another FLGS (not always possible) with a higher 40K interest.

Maybe try to get a new crowd into the hobby. Start small. Maybe one person, and consider giving him (or her) some loaners to text out the game on.
There's also the tournament circuit. It is a great place to play competitive games, and games for fun afterwards.

It's not "nobody", it's "nobody in this one gaming store". Boo hoo. Try playing where I live, literally 10 guys with any wargaming interest at all in two quite large cities (2-hour drive from one to another). Still, we manage to find an opponent every couple of weeks.
Your situation is probably majority of the crowd is not so interested in 40k anymore, so it's difficult to find a random opponent. So just find two or three guys still interested in 40k and play them specifically. No way there's zero, even in that one store.

Hi all.
To the Op.
Do you love the idea of 40k, or the current rules of 40k?
Most gamers I know love the idea of 40k, but have issues with the rules and corperate price gouging.
So IF the local crowd dont like the rules of 40k.Why not download some free rules that you can use any minatures with.
EG No Limits.
This way you can play with you favorite 40k minatures, and they can use thier WM minatures and have a game.
Its just most gamers tend to notice how bad* the 40k rules are when exposed to other systems.(In reguard to over complicaition and unecissary abstraction.)
Maybe a 'new nuetral system' might be the answer?

Don't let the store force you to play what you don't want.
Others have made fine suggestions.
The store will, in the end, lose money and go out of business by not running/pushing 40K, or any range it carries.
One of the weaknesses of gamestores is letting the customers dictate the events and not trying to recruit people into different aspects of the hobby. If WM is not your thing, then so be it.

Find a new venue.
One that has 40k players. Can't be that hard. Find a GW store. You shouldn't find ANY WM/H players in there.
Our WM/H local crew are zealots, seeing their game as the one true faith and that all others are not worthy in their sight.
They are as bad as the one-eyed GW zealots who are under the mistaken impression that gaming begins and ends with GW.

To be fair, it's really, really hard to take 40k seriously as a game* when you have laid eyes on WMH's rules.

Look for players looking for players on various boards like dakka and the like and set up games.

It only takes two!
I was on your shoes but on the opposite side. I wanted to revitalize WMH in a store that had nothing but 40K players. What I did was I found one of those players that also wanted to try out WMH, we showed up, played a few games with 2 painted armies, did a few BR on our local gaming forum and next thing you knew, we now have more players attending WMH tournaments than GW ones.
There is no stronger motivator for people to play, than watching other people playing and having fun. So that is my advice to you, grab another person that is interested in playing 40K and just play a few games at your store (you get bonus points if the armies are painted), I'll guarantee that you'll have more people willing to join you in no time and that in turn will motivate the LGS owner to give more support to the game system.

Lanrak hits the nail on the head. Unless you're desperately enamoured of Warhammer 40,000's system (something I find unlikely), you'd be best off trying to find and introduce a "neutral" generic sci-fi system, or to pick up something like Battlefleet Gothic and try to drum up interest in one-off games.

Agreed with Lanrak and English. My suggestion would be Tomorrow's War - an absolutely fantastic set of 'hard' scifi rules that could be adapted to 40k with a little effort.

My suggestion would be to play some Warmachine and build relationships with these people. Once that is done you can try and get some of them to play 40k.
There is nothing wrong with playing different games. You might even find you will have a good time.

If no one wants to play 40K at the store, your going to end up adapting or just playing on your own.
Get a couple of players, and play at the house, maybe.
Other then that, wait till the new rules come out. they will be right back to the table, soon enough.

Sounds like its time to move along in the world. Go out, make friends, pick up girls, hang out in bars, start going to the gym, go back to college for that degree youve always wanted, build a successful career for yourself, marry a beautiful woman and raise kids together, die old and loved by everyone around you.
OR
Start playing warmahordes.
But thats your only 2 choices.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have friends, a fiance, a job, and I am taking classes in college. I get the joke Eidolon, just wanted to put that out there...
In regards to finding another store, the locators online have not been too helpful... The closest GW store according to the website is 40 miles away.
I also have a post in the find-a-game section, but it never got any responses.
Also, to others saying to adapt and play something else... that's really just side stepping the issue. I love 40k because I've always really enjoyed the art, and the fluff. I was a fan of the fluff long before i started playing, and I started painting the models, very poorly, when i was very young.
On a similar note, I ONLY play 40k because the way these systems are set up, they really benefit the person with the biggest budget. Somebody who sinks $1000 will probably beat the guy who only bought the starter, because he can buy better models. So rather than stretching out my already meager paycheck, i focus on the one I most enjoy.
And as for my friends, I have tried. None of them are interested.. My fiancee will play occasionally with me, and she doesnt hate it, but i'm fairly certain shes just trying to be nice.
Unfortunately, all the people at my FLGS that I used to play 40k with either don't show up anymore, or have moved to WMH and don't want to play 40k unless they cant get a gane of WMH.
My hope is that when the 6th edition comes out people will come back, so maybe I am just stuck waiting.

Posting is helpful, but did you try to search the find a game forum?
I think some game stores just have a natural ebb and flow. Personally, I'm spending less time in my store right now simply because it is summer and I spend more time on the water, at the pool or park. Give it time. There have been periods when it was hard to find any games at my store and other times when we had more players than table space. Try to stay involved at the store, even if it is just hanging around and painting or watching the wm/h games. If they sell 40k merchandise, players will come around the store eventually. My flgs has a dry erase board that people put their name and contact info on to use for looking for games. Does your store have anything like that?
Another idea is to get involved with the vassal 40k community. While most people certainly prefer putting their models on the table, if local games can't be found, going online is a viable option. For some people it truly is the only option.

The ever shrinking GW sections of all the stores here, except of course that one store that doesn't even carry GW, seem to agree with you. I had a little chuckle when one store moved to a newer location thrice as large as the old store and the GW section was 1/3 the size it was in the old store. And I don't mean proportionally.
