Do you belong to the category of people who cant keep their hands to themselves when a new army is released (or new models for an existing army) and you go buy it but real life doesnt permit you to unbox, assemple and paint your new miniatures? I am one of these people. Especially since I buy from discounted stores with up to 30% off (usually around 20% though) I have acquired quite a few packages by the mail that I havent even had the time to unbox, as I usually make a vow of painting the stuff I have before unboxing more. Plus unboxing is always a nice feeling, so I want to reward myself in the future when my painting projects have progressed and I can open some more. So yeah...buying from discounted stores has the side effect that you accumulate more due to impulse buys than you originally think you would ever collect in terms of miniatures, and I'll wager that they actually contribute to you spending more money in total to the hobby than if your only option were to buy from GW direct. Believe it or not, I now own 6 armies and only 3 of them are unboxed and painted for the most part and the boxes have been accumulating since 2011.
Are you like me?

I have some Necron boxed I bought when I was planning to expand my army that were never open. I have 2 dark eldar ones I was planning to use for a project and paint for fun, and a dire avengers one I got when they were still 10 dire avengers.
I really regret all of them.

Sadly yes. Ranging all the way from that cool IC I want to lead an army up to tanks I haven't unboxed yet. You get this cool idea for an army project and collect stuff for it, then don't actually feel like starting it today.

Isn't this basically the "paint it all before buying more" thread? Yes, I have heaps to assemble and paint. Much of it still sealed. Buying in bulk when it's highly discounted is my excuse ; p

I've got a bunch of Metal Tyranid blister packs that I acquired cheap off of a friend of a friend (bargain, only paid about 40% of the retail value for a massive shipment of 'Nids) that have only been opened because I needed to steal the 40mm round bases out of them. I'll paint those Lictors eventually, honest...
I also have 2 Pyrovores sealed in packaging. Painted the other one because I quite like the model (his name is Percy). Percy has never seen a table...

About 8 of them. Of things I don't even need! I thought it'd be funny to buy a 4th vindi for example. Why? God knows. Or getting scammed on ebay when you buy a painted model only to get the unassambled unpainted model in a box, thats happened twice to me. I don't mind assembling... i just hate painting. I even find excuses not to paint, such as washing the dishes, doing the windows, quick unrequired asda shop etc...

Yup. And I boxed 'em all up, took 'em to the FLGS, and said "I'm not going to be able to ever assemble or paint these guys. How much will you give me for them?"
Yeah, I took a huge hit- about 50% MSRP, and it was all store credit, but I got tired of staring at it on the shelf. I could have made more on eBay or somewhere else. It needed to disappear. There it was, sitting on my hobby shelf, and I thought there is no way I'm going to make the army I want with everything else I have sitting on that shelf. It had already been sitting there almost a year.

I have soooooo much stuff NIB... I have upwards of 200 kroot minis, 2 devilfish, 6 crisis suits, 3 broadsides, 20 pathfinders, 9 piranhas, a 2500 point dark eldar army, and thats just some of the more recent acquisitions off the top of my head (and doesn't include most of my 300 points of warmachine, nor my 3 factions of malifaux)

I've done a very good job of not buying more then I can paint. And I admit that I can paint pretty quickly to get things to a table top standard.
I have one dark vengeance Chapter Master that isn't painted, and then some war machine minis that I recently acquired. Although I do have some repairs on my Tau that i'm putting off..

I at least have gotten to the unboxing phase, but I have a mountain of unboxed sprues sitting on my desk. 2 pathfinder squads, box of kroot, think there might be a box of fire warriors in there too. I got the big impressive battlesuits done though (by done I mean assembled...still have no idea how I'm going to paint anything larger than a basic infantry model).

I always buy the figs I want when I have the cash available. That means I start to collect quite a pile of "to be built" kits. Then I slowly work my way through them. Usually by the time I get through them my mind has sorted out the next batch of projects and I start the process again. What I found that helped to clear out years of backlog was the lengthy recovery process from a serious illness I had. Over a couple years I got my entire backlog built and out of boxes and even added even more kits into the process as well. Think I built 8 or 9 full armies in that time frame and sold a lot of them off.

I have a bunch of Imperial Guard stuff I have not touched from back when they first released the plastic Cadian Models, Mind you I have started to put together the Infantry squads. I also got a bunch of Marine stuff too but I gave that to a buddy of mine so he could build a ultramarine force but he has not touched them either.
I am a horder when it comes to this stuff I really do not know why probably because I think to my self I will eventually get to it

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
