Hi all. I've fallen in love with Infinity over the past few months, have now read most of the fluff, some of the rules, watched a few dozen batreps and, more importantly, finished my first models. I love the models (obviously), the terrain, the rules, the enthusiastic community, and the fact CB are all about the models and the game, and let the bottom line take care of itself. Or seem so to me anyway.

Decided to start with Yu Jing -

Hope you like them, just the Starter and Support box, They are a considerable step up from anything I've painted previously, clearly lots of areas to improve with my next batch though. I've not really done faces before, I think they went ok for a first go, one of the Zhanshi looks like he's had a nasty industrial accident despite about 4 repaints (one of which looked ok but the eyes were pretty much on the eyebrows so he looked like the mad stabby robot from Futurama), but the rest are a bit better. They are in general very overpainted, could probably knock off about 3 coats on average if I did them again. Hoping to add OSL, NMM, freehand, some imagination and all that clever stuff down the line. 5 more Yu Jing then PanO to follow.

Next target is getting playing, I've printed the Quick Start rules and built a table for me and my acolyte-daughter to start gaming on -

The terrain will have to be mainly books and tins to begin with, but one of my other targets is airbrushing so MDF terrain seems ideal to learn on. Thanks to all on here for all the stuff I've already read, and Element Games for all the help, if anyone from NWGC is reading and would like to annihilate an averagely painted, appallingly led YJ force in the near future, I hope to join up

Hello there! That looks like you're to a pretty good start. Its always nice to play with/ against a fully painted list instead of a bunch of undercoated minis. And is that MAS tower building? The airbrush will definitely help painting them. Think you might need a bit more terrain on the board though!

Yes MAS, I've got some more of their stuff to build, walkways and hab buildings. I really like the MDF look, I know it isn't to everyones taste but I love the consistent look it all has, and the really straight lines. THE MAS scenery Beasts of War use was a significant reason convincing me to try Infinity.

Of all the MDF terrain that has come out since i still think MAS is my favourite. The basic apartment is good value and very flexible from a gaming perspective. And with the other kits like the L shape and tower buildings you can get a lot of variety when you combine them with the aprtment. And they look cool too!

Wow, I really like the colours on the zhanshi, and the way the visors pop out!
I also really like your bases, and the occasional trash on the streets you added

MAS' Infinity stuff is nice, but it can be a bit of a pain to put together at times.

It certainly feels solid when together.

For my money, Sarissa Precision and Shark Mounted Lasers are making the best stuff right now though...

Thanks, I am slowly checking out all the terrain manufacturers I can find, lots of great stuff.

Soulcow, thanks very much, however the street rubbish is pre-molded on the bases, nothing to do with me

The good thing about the terrain out there for infinity is that most of it fits together well on the table. This gives you a lot of good mix n match choices. As long as you give them a common colour theme, your table will blend fine.

There is also the concept order thru chaos

Where if you don't worry about how your buildings work and look together, it will likely look fine

6+ = 6/36 | Reroll 1s = 7/36 | Reroll Misses = 11/36 ||||||| 5+ = 12/36 | Reroll 1s 14/36 | Reroll Misses = 20/36 ||||||| 4+ = 18/36 | Reroll 1s 21/36 | Reroll Misses = 27/36
3+ = 24/36 | Reroll 1s 28/36 | Reroll Misses = 32/36 ||||||| 2+ = 30/36 | Reroll 1s 35/36 ||||||| Highest of 2d6 = 4.47

The common colour theme will be burnt brown until I buy and learn to use to an airbrush

Infact I've constructed the MAS walkways this morning, will be taking them apart to sand properly before gluing and painting but even just clipped together they look great. Thanks for all the advice

Keepin' the gray away? Good Idea. Learning to use an airbrush is definitely an eye opening experience. Good luck with that.

Those Yu jing look nice. You'll have to add the Yu Jing points to you sig now.

Agreed!

Not only is it my preferred look, but, well, I've got a bunch of different manufacturer's buildings anyway, so it all works out!

Great, that's precisely what I've got in mind, too many different manufacturers to limit a table to just one. Will be a lot of MAS stuff though I think.

In other new player news, I have submitted some unpacks to Penemue on the official forums, and having read on the Wiki that the Crane and Pheasant I'm going to start painting shortly are a bit overpointed, and so one of the few units in the game that might be considered relatively weak, I'm now even more proud of them, I'll make them work, eventually

They are overpointed, but you may still enjoy playing them. CC is difficult to work in Infinity, but given the nastiness of monofilament CCWs, these guys are rather order efficient compared to many other cc types.

And X visor + spitfire on a 2 wound model will give everybody fits.

Don't forget to post pictures when they are painted.

Those are some very good looking models. I like the hard lines in the creases, it gives it a nice pop that I love to see.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work!

Thank you very much

Have built the next 5. I have a Hsien on which I intend to paint the armour roughly the same yellow as my Shang Ji, anyone know if there's a fluffy reason I shouldn't?

There is never a fluffy reason -not- to do something. Go crazy with ze colors.

Though you may want to ignore me, I am the guy who refuses to ever follow conventional paint schemes.

I'm sure I have seen these minis before (did you start a blog elsewhere?), but I will say again in any case absolutely fantastic job with them. Lovely combination of colours , the support person in particular looks fantastic.

Excellent avatar as well by the way!

Thank you dude

I put up a new player thread on the Infinity site too. Though the picture hosting there preserves the full size image, with alarming closeups of ropey brushwork. Even more so than here

You can also hit up the local hardware store to pick up terrain on the cheap. To tide you over till you can pick up your met terrain.

Your painting job is superior to mine and I feel my Yu Jing have been the best I've done to date, across 6 40k armies. Bravo to you!

Updates on the next batch of YJ and their PanO foes -

Some work to do yet Can't decide on the armour for the Pheasant (headless) and Crane, thinking maybe a deep red or green, or one of each.

Quick question, when I was first looking at Infinity, seem to remember seeing a MDF terrain manufacturer that did little MDF and acrylic bar / shop / advertising signs, that would protrude perpendicular to the building, can't seem to find them anywhere now, sound familiar to anyone? Thanks in advance.

Plastcraft games shared this quick tutorial aswell:

But ofcourse it's not holo sign and probably not what you are looking for.

I really like your YuJing I love the Pheasant colours as they are :p Light grey armour and coloured accents, but that's just taste ^^ If you had to pick between red or green I'd say green armour, but keepnig a grey or other contrasting colour for the breastplate or sth :p Anyway it's up to you to decide ^^

Thanks both, excellent, it was those customeeple ones.

Got to have a week off painting so will think about the armour, thanks for the advice

Hi again all, I have added 5 more Yu Jing -

But even better, I'm off to NWGC tomorrow for a game

Spent a happy few hours over the weekend looking through all the terrain sellers and pricing up all the scenery, tokens, templates and other bits and bobs I'd like to buy. Just need to whittle down that list by about 93% to what I can actually afford now. However I have just bought my first airbrush, and will be practicing on some MAS MDF shortly.

I really like how the muted oranges and greys came out. Are they dipped or washed or lined to get that really dramatic shading on the yellows?

They look good, and I really like how your Crane came out... I'm still terrified to paint mine.

Wow, I really dig the scheme on the tigers and the pheasant & crane. I like how you went for slightly different colour accents on your troops (xept the hsien and shang ji ofc :p), such as the visor on the doctor, the white on both eng and doctor, but even the domaru and yaozao fit in really. ^^

Did you plan on painting the deep red you had in mind on your wip picutres the orange of your zanshi all along? It's not a critique or anything ^^ But did you change your mind or is the red the base colour for your orange?

Yu Jing Martial Arts Ninja

Ta very

Brown is
GW Mournfang Brown
2 or 3 washes Badab Black / Agrax mix
Vall Orange-Brown layer
further washes and layers until looks about right

Yellow is the same, but Averland Sunset for the base, Yriel Yellow for the layer.

I tried highlighting the armour on the Crane, but edge highlighting looked messy due to my inability to edge neatly at that resolution, and blending the plates up looked ok on the big areas like the thigh / head but again messy elsewhere, so, flat Dawnstone it is

Ah I see what you mean soulcow, as above it's Mournfang Brown with crappy lighting
