Damn, those are sturdy! Cutter's ain't light.

Looks like a good way to fill up on terrain!

I mean with the bases on my models. They're all based in urban/snow/SVARLAHEIMA REPRESENT!

How to base your models is always a tough decision.

I can understand why the 'clear base' movement is gaining a lot of followers...

I'm really not a fan of clear bases. To me, a base finishes a miniature. A clear base just doesn't have the same impact. If your bases don't match the terrain, who cares?

My Haqqislam see all of their table time on urban boards, but they're based on desert bases. You don't even notice when you start playing.

Definitely a fan of clear bases here I totally understand what you are saying, Loki, and I probably felt that way for a good while. But ever since I saw some clear acrylic bases in the battlesystems terrain kickstarter intro vid.... I've been stuck on them. They give my little army folk a definite "wherever you go, there you are" vibe, afaic.

Also, ridiculously nice models OP

Thanks for the kind words Now have another long list or improvements and tidying for the YJ and PanO (including big general intimidating things like 'OSL' and 'transfers'). Nevertheless, 28 models bought and 28 models more-or-less painted is pretty satisfying. Wonky group shot -

400 points of Haqq up next, definitely the Starter and Kum bikers, no idea beyond that. Then 400 pts Aleph, then 400 pts Ariadna, then lots and lots and lots of Nomads. Possibly all of them. Terrain before all that though.

Regards bases, I think I'm going to do the Haqq on the same urban bases, as the fluff I am slowly fleshing out for my Paradiso YJ frontier town has the bikers and their support scouting the area as a possible rally and counterattack point if Haqq terrain is completely overrun by the CA. Would that look too weird?

Good luck in your game Monders

Not at all. The only real thing that you need with basing is uniformity within the army, so they look like a coherent force. Other than that, urban desert, clear acrylic... whatever you like best.

And I am definitely using a darker blue on my ASA minis when I get around to painting them. It works so well on your Pan-O

Cheers!

A quick recap: I got wiped out! Ross had another new guy play against me and marshalled from the side lines. This wasn't a softly softly take it easy game, we were full on! Camo, smoke grenades, brutal close combat with some stupid werewolf things...

I admit to losing who was supposed to be who, and who had what, but getting the basics of the game down was the main objective. I did far more damage with AROs than I did on my turn, and likewise for the other guy.

My dice rolls were, as usual, atrocious.

Pretty much what happened to me

Some shots of my table, mark II - same buildings but condensed to 4x4, and with added crates, trees, barricades and other scatter. I still haven't read any build a good table stuff, so it probably still doesn't play great but looks soooo cool, to me anyway, hopefully will look much better when painted up. I particularly love the walls from CNC, remind me of dropping the perfect grenade through a window in Laser Squad Nemesis.

Seen here are the local YJ forces engaging in tactical training with their PanO (uneasy) allies, in preparation for a soon expected CA attack.

Table looks sick Very Infinity! As long as you don't have too too much empty space creating no-mans lands, and uneven distribution of high buildings creating really wide sniper kill zones... you're probably doing fine.

Looks like it provides some good atmospheric shots to boot

Looks reeeeally sharp. What did you use for the 'base' of the board? Just a gaming mat of some kind?

Thanks Its the tile set from Customeeple, called 'outdoor banner', and is not entirely recommended to be honest, as the squares aren't square (sides range from 295mm to 300m, so are difficult to fit properly together), but it does the job.

Great paintjobs, and as much as I love the PanO (especially once brown was added), I've got to applaud the Yellow YuJing heavies in particular.

That is not an easy colour to work with!

Thanks very much My painstaking lots of very, very thin coats approach, which I use instead of any raw painting talent, means yellow is no more difficult than any other colour, they all take ages

Just a heads up Darkjim, if you're after an alternative mat. MAS previewed this on the official boards.

It's 4'x4', and sensibly has a diagonal line down the middle which really kills length of the board fire lanes. It's obvious that they're making it to fit their buildings (as expected) due to the shapes of the building footprints (the L shape is a dead giveaway) but it would work for any buildings. You then wouldn't have to bugger about with the tiles, and the diagonoal line means simply turning the mat will create a different feel each game.

Personally though I'm waiting to see if they do a 6'x4', which they've told me they will consider based on the sales of this mat.

That is nice, thanks very much. iirc the AW Kickstarters mentioned a board too, might be great.

It has occurred to me, having bought 2 of the packs so I could do 8' x 4', I could cut some of the sheets diagonally and lay the triangles at the edges, using the rest to make a 45 degree board. Might still be able to do 6' x 4', I will investigate at some point.

The Customeeple mats really aren't bad for the cost, though I'm glad I went for the cheaper version if the inaccurate cutting issues apply to the more expensive ones too. I just expected slightly higher attention to detail. If I came into any money it would be the boards from Shark Mounted Lasers, they would be the perfect solution with a full wallet.

@ Pacific - I am, I am, the black building in the pics has been sanded, sealed, sanded again and spraycan primed. The airbrush is all set up, dry tested, ready to roll, I just need to find the nerve to actually start squirting paint through it

I must admit, the table does look very nice. Painting things well will improve it dramatically, but don't rush things. Part of the fun of Infinity is putting together cool tables. Take your time and enjoy the process.

Well I didn't explode, poison, burn, asphyxiate or blind myself, so it went pretty well

Not actually as bright white as it appears here, crappy camera phone, hopefully the white round the windows and doors shows the contrast a bit - utterly generic and pretty much a straight rip of the picture on the packet, nonetheless I think once ladders and sign etc are added, shouldn't be too ropey for a first go. Will do my other 2 MAS buildings like this so they match and to get some practice in, then branch out a bit in terms of colour. Thanks for looking

That looks nice, good work. Do the windows have some kind of texture or is that freehand? It looks like it's meant to be some kind of forcefield/tech screen of some kind?

Neat building, and when you're doing a whole board, being a little sloppy or generic is somewhat acceptable. Or at least I have to keep telling myself that

Thanks chaps

The windows are just with a brush, dark / mid / light grey with a blue wash over. Really easy / satisfying to paint because the etch lines as so easy to follow, Meant to be metal shutters, or force fields is good too , I think I can do better with a bit more attention on them next time.

I want to maybe try a brown wash to look like water stains, and / or that chipped metal effect to give a worn look round the edges, not sure if I can pull either off well, going to get the rest of my MAS stuff to this level first whilst I have a ponder.

Also, a question for any Haqq experts reading - re Ghulam, the upcoming box is special weaps I understand (cool), are the Ghulam in the starter relatively new and so likely to look ok with the new ones, or are the starter Ghulam old and expected to be updated to match the ones arriving this month? Those in the starter look great to me, was just about to order the starter and the HMG guy (amongst other Haqq) when I saw about the new arrivals.

We're still in the dark over if they're going to be new sculpts or just a reboxing of the old ones. I'm crossing my fingers for entirely new sculpts.

New sculpts. There is no way they are going to box the old stuff. They've updated the basic infantry (in the starter) they've updated the doctor. This month we'll see the updated SWC stuff. HMG for sure. I'm hoping missile launcher too. So wait for that.

Building looks fine. Not everything needs to look run down.

VERY nice looking!

What 'prep work' did you do to the MDF before painting, if any?

Thanks for the answers, I will wait, and assume 4 Ghulam with big guns to add to the starter, bikers, Saladin, and some others I have yet to decide on.

Red Harvest - if someone of your terrain talents is happy with it then so am I, thanks

Thanks Alpharius, I sanded it lightly, sealed it with Shellac sealer as per Antenoctis recommendation, sanded again, then primed with GW black spray because I have a can knocking around and it always does a great job assuming the right temp/humidity etc. Once the can is dead I'll just undercoat black with the airbrush, or use proper poly primer, but I'm not sure I actually need to given I'm sealing it anyway. I don't think I need to do the pre seal sanding either, it goes on great even on the bits I didn't sand.
