Oh you're calling the orange accents browns :p well that's opninion I think ^^ I really tought the wip pictures showed a base colour for the deep red you were thinking to apply, I googled mournfang brown and I see it's indeed that colour, however it contains a lot of red
Anyway, It is a very solid colour, your orange/brown one ^^

Thanks, checked out your blog btw, really nice Shang-Ji, the chainmail is great, and you've picked out knuckles and things, excellent

Here's the list, with one YaoZao dropped and the Pheasant proxied to a Spitfire (which is, I think, better, and I can afford the SWC with the Shang-Ji as Lt)

I'm always a big fan of AD infantry with an HMG. I think I like the second list better.

Thanks I'll go with that then. I've only just noticed the Combi Tiger can be Lt / Hack too, which means anywhere but the Domaru, Doc or HMG Tiger. Though I presume starting with the Lt off the board is a bad idea, a Hacker ADing in could be cool.

Yeah, you don't want to have your PT dropping in, since it'll force you to be in Loss of Lieutenant until he gets there. But yes, an AD Hacker is pretty neat if you can drop him somewhere in cover and immobilize someone, or hack a TAG and go rampagin'.

I've played my first game with the yujing starter set with domaru exchanged for 2 tiger soldiers. That was just to start learning the game because it's an easy list, and I'd like to continue collecting haqqislam, but I didn't have an easy choice for a starter list.

so my starter list was something like
shang ji
3 zhanshi
celestial guard lt
2 tiger soldier, one with HMG

we just played something where you had to get as many figures in deeper zones of the board, don't really know what it was called. I lost two times because I didn't use the shang ji offensively at all, and held back on a tiger soldier.
So on those two units I'd say use them, but I suppose you're not new to the game and will dare to use them? :p I just didn't dare to risk the units, but that's what they're made for isn't it? (+ I'm just learning wargaming in general through my first games of Infinity)
I haven't used the domaru, but when I was reading about the troop profiles it seemed they need enough cover (terrain/smoke) to get to their targets. You can also change him for celestial guard with kuang shi and sth else to get hold of smoke cover which could be useful?

Baltimore

Yeah, the CG with the Kuang Shi Control Device gets a smoke launcher, presumably to provide the maniac explosive people with cover while they charge through the battlefield. But you can also take her just to get the smoke launcher and support troops that way.

A common trick for tech savvy players is to take a model with a MultiSpectralVisor Lvl2, so they can see through smoke, and pop smoke, allowing them to shoot people who can't ARO back.

You NEED to be aggressive with Tiger Soldiers. They are at their best when they're on the offensive and kicking ass. You just need to play smart, and stick to cover. But don't be afraid to flank hard and use that HMG.

Oh I did that First ever game tonight, vs Combined, tabled in 4 turns by Chains, Spits and some nasty bugger that eats corpses. My HMG Tiger dropped beautifully onto a roof, missed with his first 4 shot volley and was AROd to death on the second. The other Tiger missed the roof and scattered into LOS of pretty much every Combined on the table.

One thing, I'm sure we got right - in every batrep I've seen online, they forget about guts rolls until halfway through, and so did we Thanks very much to Matthew at NWGC for the game

Well on the bright side, most games only last 4 turns!

Sometimes you have some bad rolls and bad luck. I tend to lose about 80% of my games, but I usually do something that is 'cool' rather than 'intelligent' and pay the price.

I forget what the Corpse Eater model is, I know it is a Shasvasti and it can get reeeeally scary once he gets 'fed'.

Hope you had fun!

It was great. Getting tabled for the first dozen games is fine, I want a game with some depth, so if I come up against a good player I should get annihilated until I learn a lot more.

In retrospect, my deployment was lame, far too passive, I wasted orders, the Tiger drop was a dice disaster so he held the middle of the board with the mine layer and some stuff I don't think I ever discovered, then his heavies romped up the flanks and destroyed me. Was marvellous

Glad you enjoyed the first game! You definitely need to have a tough jaw for your first few games of Infinity, depending on how ruthless the experienced player you are up against is.

Tiger Soldiers are ace, an HMG coming down behind the other force can be enough to win the game if you play it right and they're not prepared. But beware being 'iced' by an enemy hacker if you are coming in on AD3 - a lot of people use AD2 for that reason (or at least mix it up).

Quick update to any interested - still working on my PanO, they haven't really turned out as intended yet, which was a sort of manga / Vexille aesthetic, which is proving a bit beyond my skills -

Lots still to do, will try highlighting the blue to lessen the contrast to the white a bit.

Also got a board of sorts together -

Not even slightly intended to be played on yet, obviously need many more buildings, less roads, and hopefully some SML Neo Tokyo stuff as and when that appears, and long term I would like to mix in more traditional Oriental buildings, and trees. At this stage I just wanted to try various manufacturers and have enough to practice airbrushing on. Really impressed with pretty much all of it so far, the MAS MDF is a very tight fit and occasionally needs a thin layer removing to fit, but I think looks great when built, the rest (Sarissa, Warmill, CNC, Customeeple so far) is generally great. My kids are impressed anyway

Liking the darker blue in the Pan-O. Alot. Very distinctive. I think Soulcow may be onto something about a little extra highlighting though. Keep painting and your skills will get where you want the, to be.

Also cool gaming mat. It is from...?

The buildings are enough for small point games now, if you fill in the board with some scatter, cars, planter and plants, dumpsters, etc.

Thanks all - it is the Customeeple mat, the new cheaper one called 'outdoor banner'. It's good, but the sections aren't quite square (only a mm or so off), so I need to do a neat cutting job, which is easily doable. Long term I will probably glue them to MDF. Works out about £50 for the 2 sets I bought, which gives a very flexible 8x4 and infinite variety for 6x4 and 4x4. In an ideal world I would probably like a board from SML, but I think this is a great mat for my current purposes. If funds allow I expect the original thicker version fits better (and has the depth so the sheets sit better).

Also like to say Customeeple customer support is excellent, I had a few questions and they were really helpful.

How durable does the mat feel?

I've been thinking of getting the cheaper outdoor banner material as well. Does it have problems sliding around the table if you don't permanently stick them down?

Made in gb
Yu Jing Martial Arts Ninja

No, no sliding sitting on MDF board, think it would only be an issue on a really smooth table top, if then.

Durability I imagine is good, it is a strong material that looks difficulty to tear, if relatively well looked after it looks like it will last forever.

I was surprised it came in a tube, given they are all 1 foot square, flat-packed would seem to make more sense, so the sheets were curled up - a week neatly stacked on a sheet of MDF, under another sheet of MDF and with Imperial Armour 1-7 on top has pretty much taken care of that.

So the only real issue is the slight lack of squareness, though as I said above the thicker more expensive version probably sit next to each other better given their increased depth.

All in all, I think they'll do a great job for a couple of years until I can upgrade to an MDF board, I would only say avoid if their lack of depth leading to the odd minimal gap or overlap is a problem, which hopefully some neat and accurate cutting will deal with, though will be a week or two until I get round to it.

Thanks all for the nice comments re the PanO, I've got a few good ideas for some improvements now.

Damn... daaaaaamn.

Those PanO look sharp man.

Nice contrast, good colors. I think you're awfully close to what you're aiming for. It looks a bit busier on the Cutter, maybe him and the bots could benefit from a bit of the red that the Bolts are rocking? Maybe like a designation stripe that crosses a panel or two?

I've really enjoyed catching up on this thread, as I am looking at taking the plunge by picking up two starter factions this week.

I was worried that there wouldn't be many people playing near me, but it seems there's a scene at the NWGC so that's right up my street (almost literally).

I'll swing by the NWGC for my purchases and hopefully get some more info from seasoned vets. Might even book a game in!

First two games are free (I'm sure I read somewhere), I've yet to take my second as midweek is generally when games are played and precisely when I can't usually get there, but yes get down there, may of the guys at Element Games (which shares the building with NWGC) are big Infinity fans.

Thanks C_C, yes it's the 'busy' thing that has me concerned, the Cutter and the Swiss/Aquila particularly, though they aren't very clear on the pics. Thanks for the markings suggestions, I hopefully have some time this weekend so will see what progress I can make.

Quick update - have repainted the backpacks etc (that were blue/grey) to match the cloaks and break up the whole blue thing a bit, and highlighted the blue, a bit, too light didn't look great.

No markings as yet, thinking about transfers and/or freehand, either way needs some planning so I'm going to tidy the white up a bit more and then whilst I decide on markings (and a next faction) commence on airbrushing terrain, a new and somewhat intimidating prospect. Thanks for looking

Thanks Not played with Pan O yet, hoping to get some games soon. Today I've been learning to handle sealant for the MDF, and printing a Dave Graffam Cargo Pod, which I'm printing on paper and sticking to some card to see what they look like.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A cardboard crate -

Pretty sturdy -

For a rough cost of about 25p each (much of which is printer ink, for my 'search by price - lowest first' inkjet) I think a dozen of those will do very nicely to fill up the board. Going to try painting/felt-tipping the white edges.

Also made some barricades from spare bits from the MAS Guard Tower -

Using them like this means the tower doesn't have the roof parts to be split into 2 single story buildings, but that's ok for me, I have other low buildings.

Progress
