Subject: Game of Thrones Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]
Okay, given recent... events, I thought it might be useful to have a dedicated Game of Thrones thread (if we had one I didn't find it).
So, I haven't seen anything past season two but during the interminable wait for Blu-ray of season three, I went ahead and read the books. Yes, I am now that guy.
Anyway, how'd you non-readers like the Purple Wedding? Not exactly what you expected to see, eh?
Oh, and if you hadn't seen it yet... why are you reading a thread with the word SPOILERS in the title? o.O

I thought they were going to save that for the Episode 9, no idea what they are going to go with now.
All of the talk prior to the season said this was going to happen early on. Episode 9 will probably be the Battle of the Wall. 10 I would imagine will have a lot to do with Tyrion's escape.

Yeah, we've still got the trial, Oberyn's fight with the Mountain, the first battle of the wall (from the inside), and the great battle at the wall (stannis) left to do this season. Plenty of stuff to keep it going.
Anyone else notice that this episode was a lot of filler to give reasons for peoples actions later? Stuff that wasn't in the book that you just had to assume. I feel like we're likely to see a lot more of this in the future as the show runners have to tidy up Martin's "story telling".

It also seems like Shae's story is going down slightly differently. Which isn't a surprise given that the various "romances" have seemed to receive the most changes from the book to TV.
Spoiler:
I'm not sure if this path makes what comes later better or worse, though. On this path her motivations seem out of anger/spite/etc. In the book I thought her cold-bloodedness is what really made it so harsh.
They have to tell the stories of the Knight of the Laughing Tree and the Night's King this season, right?

I think it works better for the show based on how they played her character throughout. In the show she genuinely seems to care deeply for Tyrion. In the books it's implied she does but there leaves room for what goes down. Both work, i just think the show is doing a better job based on the conclusion it has to come to.

I was glad to see Joffrey go, but I was actually expecting him to stick around forever to be the annoying ahole king everyone hates. I keep forgetting that all the main characters die at some point.
I think Jamie has to lose his golden hand and replace it with a big spikey mace or something useful like that.

Yeah, it's probably more tragic this way, if less cold-blooded.
Jaime starts his training quite a bit earlier, and with a different person. I wonder if this is part of the plan to keep the sell-sword more relevant for the near future...

The original trainer also didn't really talk...at all. So during the training scenes you would just have Jaime talking to himself and basically thinking out loud.
So the choice is Mr. Say Nothing, or Ser Some Of The Best Lines In The Show.

I'm probably way off but I think it was mom, cuz she hated the fact that the queen-to-be girl was taking her queen spot, so the only way to get it back to get rid of Joffrey, and blame it on tyriel.. 2 birds with 1 stone kinda thing.
When are the dragons coming?

my bet is its one of the lannisters though, if not one of them maybe littlefinger/the unik/that old guy with the potions and what not.
but I really think its one of the lannisters, but not tywin
Tywin is the dad, Tyrion is the imp
@Hotsauce All the episode showed was Joffery accusing who he felt was his murdered: if that was how the police actually carried out their investigations there'd be a lot of murderers getting away scot free

Breotan wrote:Yea, I've no idea what's in his head with the whole "retiring" thing. Hope he set aside money for old age.
He said that he was retiring to pursue a career in education. So whether this means to take time off of acting to really focus on going to school and perhaps figuring out if there's something else he wants to do with his life, or whether he's already decided that he literally wants a career in education, is something that I'm not entirely sure of.

It also doesn't hurt that the original actor for the guy who was supposed to do the training died.
Also I'd like to emphasize, since a few things have popped up already, please no book spoilers outside of spoiler tags in this thread.

Ding-dong the Mad Kind's dead! Which Mad King? The Bard king!
Literally, don't read this if you want to wait and see who the likely culprit of this wonderful murder is...
Spoiler:
Lady Olena masterminded the whole plot, using one of the jewels from Sansa's hair net (which Olena lent to her in the book) and is heavily hinted that Margery then slipped it into Joffrey's cup... mind you, there's also the likelihood that Littlefinger or maybe Varys had a hand in it as well
The big change they did was that in the book, when Joff starts chocking, his King's Guard actually cut open his throat in an attempt to find/remove whatever is causing him to choke.
Spoiler:
When they find the stone and realise that it's from Sansa's jeweled hair net, she is also implicated as a co-conspirator alongside poor Tyrion. It looks like they're skipping that bit though, and moving ahead with Sansa's escape.
