What is it?

For me, I love the new look of the wazbomber for orks, but I despise the new rules for flyers in general, and I usually purchase for use in game as much if not more than for looks. I converted a dark eldar flyer because I wanted a sweet looking dakkajet.

This isn't a anti flyer new rule rant thread. Feel free to say what rules turn you off of a particular model you would have happily shelled out for otherwise.

Also I like the electro priests for admech, but won't pay that much for units I would only use to essentially handicap myself against a new player or particularly weak codex, or some theme formation or as a joke.

Thousand Sons.

Been a tzeentch csm player for a long time, and for marine type units I run Alpha Legion marines with no mark or cultists.

Have 9 oblitorators, many terminators, etc that are tzeentch but not a single thousand son.

Honestly, bad models is more likely to cause me to shy away then bad rules.

It helps that my two main armies are Space Marines and Eldar. While there might be some things that are better then others, there are no units that are truly bad. Quite a few that are outshone by stuff in the same slot, but still playable.

I mean, I’ve got a squad of Eldar rangers. They are probably one of the worst units in the book. I’m not going to count my wraithlord, as I’ve had it for decades, and they were good when I picked it up. I’d love to pick up more Eldar stuff, even some things panned as useless, but finecast is what’s holding me back.

I have the luxury of playing in a more casual meta. If I want to use a “bad” unit, I just tighten up the rest of my list to compensate. I don’t think anything is so bad that I am going to auto-loose just for putting into a list. Everything has a use, some are just inefficient about it.

An entire dark elder army. I have a few units, love the models, but they are not in a great place. if they ever got a proper codex I would get a few thousand points of them immediately The models I absolutely LOVE ar the pain engines, hellions, and scourges... but I don't think they have a single sub par kit. Also the voidraven is one of the most beautiful flyers in the game.

Lootas proxy them as some Flash Gitz. As to the Morkanaut? Spend the extra $20 and buy the Stompa. Least you'll have a cool model.

The Hunter/Stalker. They're not -awful- but I feel that they're a little too niche when a Stormtalon/Stormhawk would work better in a generalist role.

Less so for the hunter though. Which is a shame, as I think it’s the better looking of the two. The way the vehicle rules are set up, there is pretty much zero reason to put the hunter in a list when it is interchangeable with the stalker. And when they come in the same box, it’s really hard to justify the hunter.

The hunter sucks because low ROF sucks in 7th ed. With the highest AV being 12 for a flyer, and the best armor 3+, Str 7 spam is all you'll ever need.

I get where your coming from completely, there's always models I love the look of, but as much as I like them, I always try to balance out the cost and enjoyment I will get painting them to the amount I will use them eventually.

I love the look of the Leviathan dreadnought for example, I know I will have a great time painting it. But it just seems futile if I'm never going to fit it into a list. It's rules actually look good fun, with that whole crazed maniac relic vibe going on, but it's pretty hefty points wise.

Another hierophant for my nids.
Had one and sold it, got a harridan more recently instead.

With the sheer spamming of strength D and lack of for nids, its 1k points of worthless model.

They are lovely looking models and huge, but I'm not paying £250 for another paper weight I won't use.

Edit: Kroll, they are worth the cash

I have one with 2 of each weapon I swap out and although it's points heavy, its rips through most things with ease.
Also makes one hell of a "distraction carnifex" that's tough to shift.

On the plus side the missile launcher from the kit makes a pretty awesome kannon for orks.

helions. Ho. Lee. Spit those models look awesome, have awesome concepts, but they are just trash. Boring trash too, just inexcusably dull.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

Simple, easy to build, but not a great deal bigger than the plastics GW are making these days.

Rules wise, the barbed is the better of the 2 due to the 2 bio cannons.
Holds its own pretty damn well but again, strength D knocks it off the board alot.

That's usually my go to choice for a nids LoW however.

I can't say I want to sell anything I have. Granted my Tau army is mostly new so I don't have much extra stuff for it yet as I'm just finishing up the primary units for the default build. Then I'll sprawl out to the others.

Edit
Ah I can't bear to sell my small Dark Eldar collection because I like how they look. I wish GW would shoot them a proper codex or at least some cool model support.

For Guard: Ogyrns, Hellhounds, Sentinels and the Basilisk. Awesome units with great lore and garbage rules.

Ogyrns pay Terminator prices for far less durability and deployment options. And Terminators overpay for their durability! And why do they have such a low LD score? Ogryn are shown as being incredibly brave in the face of danger. LD is, by and large, a bravery and willpower characteristic. They should be at least LD8 with Bone'eads giving them 9. Or maybe give them fearless?

Sentinels of both flavors are far too fragile and kind of undergunned. You could take them en masse but that's just dumping more points to make something bad into something mediocre. They should have some kind of buffs for taking them in large units. Or at the very least a huge points decrease. The days of a single autocannon being a potent weapon, especially on a BS3 platform, are over.

Hellhounds should be a great unit. Should. They're fast, they got an AV12 front and carry a torrent flamer. Sounds good, right? But they aren't. Hellhounds are tanks that want to get close to the enemy but are heavily penalized for doing so thanks to their weak side and rear armor. Plus, they're fragile being AV12 with no jink saves and only 3 HP.

Basilisks... well, a lot of 7th ed rules seem to conspire to make them awful. Basilisks suffer from being easily shut down by penetrating hits (They have 66.67% chance of not being able to fire their cannon upon a successful unsaved penetrating hit). Their main gun has no ignores cover so often half of the wounds they deal will be burned away by jink saves. They can't destroy vehicles easily thanks to the HP nerfs. They're horrid against MCs because, for whatever reason, a huge shell hitting a big monster only marginally hurts it. And they pay 125 points for the privilege.

Opposite problem: I can't bring myself to buy Centurions because they look so dumb. Decent rules, especially on the Devastator Centurions, but I can't get past the look. This is doubly annoying because my chapter tactics of choice, Imperial Fists, offers some snazzy benefits for them.
