Ah, when someone mentioned GW releasing a mission generator on their website, I expected something more...digital.

Still, it does look useful.

Would there by any interest in a Space Hulk map/mission creator application? Sort of like that tile system linked earlier, only complete with mission descriptions and a printout that looks more like the ones in the mission book. I could even throw in the old SH1e/2e tiles if people want, I think I saw some scans of those on a French site before.

yeah,
I read the rule book and first few pages of the mission book today at work. I have to say I'm impresed, the fluff is awesome. almost every situation that can come up has a rule.

Also the large number of Terminator helmets in genestealer claws and bases is kinda explained by the background fluff... the entire chapter was almost lost in the first encounter with the sin of damnation! Only 50 marines escaped!

I look forward to getting my first game of 3rd edition in at some point in the next week or so.

Does this game take place in the same alternate universe where the Blood Angels almost lost a company or so to Chaos as well?

I'd love to see the background given here put into context with the 'real' 40K universe...

Especially if that Librarian really is the future

Does anyone find the whole 950 Marines dead thing a little on the absurd side?

I mean, if we accept the fact that the Ultramarines losing the entire 1st Company being such a huge deal, why is the loss of NINETY-FIVE-PERCENT of the Blood Angels never really mentioned, ever? The Flesh Tearers, Lamenters and Scythes of the Emperor are all 'dying' Chapters with 100-300 Marines left. The Planetstrike rulebook gives us a picture of every single remaining Crimson Fist, and they're another Chapter struggling to recover from such a massive loss. But the Blood Angels bounced back like nothing had happened. WTF?

It's almost like the plan was for the fluff to be that the 950 were lost while they were still legion, so 950 now only represents a small fraction of the marines.

I think it said that only 50 marines survived the boarding action, not there's 50 marines left in the chapter... but still... odd.

Nothing worth winning ever came easy.

The 950 massacre was actually on a different space hulk. There is, however, a Blood Angel vessel called the Wrath of Baal, which is made part of the Sin of Damnation. Maybe there was a hat rack on board.

Actually, it says the Chapter responded in full, and only 50 marines survived of the entire chapter.

If the Librarian in the game, and in the novel, is "Who We Think It Is", then none of these explanations make any sense...

Mephiston was originally known as Brother Calistarius. In this incarnation he was a Blood Angels Librarian of some ability and exceptional strength of character.

The blurb in the Space Hulk Missions book shows the Librarian as Lexicanium Calistarius.

Who knows the timeline? Where does the SH setting come in relation to the 2nd Armageddon War?

The Terminator "parts" on the Genestealer models are from the remains of the other Terminator squads in the Hulk besides the 12 guys in the actual game. No idea where all the skulls are from.

Yes, but, if like me you consider the whole "1,000 SMs per Chapter, 1,000 Chapters in the galaxy" to be merely Imperial propaganda, the situations admits of a very simple explanation.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

And I see that 100 people are selling the set without the models for less then 35$ Found 1 who sells his for 9.50! (without models)
This one was the cheapest one I could find!

Yes, I know, there's closer to 2000-3000 Marines in each Chapter when you take into account every Marine that would be in a Chapter and not just the 10 Companies, but still, loosing 95% of your combat strength is an odd thing to go unmentioned in the fluff, especially when lesser losses in other Chapters are mentioned, and mentioned quite often. I mean, the Ultramarines paint their Veterans and Terminator helmets white to commemorate the loss of the 1st Company. The Blood Angels do nothing.

Are we to assume that after the surviving Blood Angel Marines got back to Baal, Dante gathered them all up and gave a Brad Pitt-esque speech:

"The first rule of the Blood Angels is that you do not talk about the Sin of Damnation. The second rule of the Blood Angels is that you do not talk about the Sin of Damnation!"

It's only the same thing if 1000 Space Marines actually boarded the Hulk. I don't have a copy, so I can't check, but how many Blood Angels does it say boarded the Hulk in that encounter?
