That guard conversion is wonderful an epic example of modelling to depict an art piece thats great!

Neil - Mate every time I look in here I find something cool. Be it beautiful idea boards or really inspiring conversions. I really want to have a game of Inquisitor against you at some point.

The nomad is just fantastic. I think his back is marvellous. I really see the John Blanche illustration in there. I got a nice little bonus at work and bought the Emperor's Will which is full of inspiration.

Like the guardsman in cold weather gear too. It looks just like Jes's(?) picture. The helmet is spot on.

I'm not a fan of the jet bike...There is nothing wrong with it just personal taste. Though the flying brick aspect is quite accurate for 40k lol.

@Vik Thank you kind sir the stringy thing is from those exterior hanging basket liners, i could very well be coconut husk tough i cant really tell , its definitely natural though, i added it for volume, but i had to cut it up rather small , which was a pain ! and it still looks a little too long in places , kinda different though, i didn't think it would show through in the end but after drying you can see every mistake

its actually pretty heavy , i have been looking for a uk distributor of extruded polystyrene, so i can make light stuff and sell it on ebay , but have had no luck so far..

the texture looks pretty good for ash especially since it slooped down the hill as ash would, unfortunatrely it left areas uncovered that may need a recover

The Rhinox is one of those cheap dinos i picked up , this one is a diplodocus

@Llamahead thank you mate , it was a bit of a bugger tbh, i used these bits yarrick long coat , crashed aquilla pilot top and boots, cadian arms , goliath lasgun, forgeworld enviromental suit head. and catatchan backpack ;-)

Glad the Blanhe is comming through , that nomad always reminded me of this blanche pic in the Fighting fantasy book shamuntanti hills sorceryseries , it was the first book i remember buying and the first JB pic i ever saw. I dont think i have that JB book ,I must be slipping thanks for the heads up. i have the inquisitors sketchbook and Ratspike . BTW have seen all the fantastic stuff on the gothic punk site , some nice minis on there too.

@MonkeyTroll Cheers monks, He is a bit messy but i think he captures the spirit of the thing , hoping to paint him up in really bright colours , African Peruvian tribal style , in the fluff it mention that they wear bright clothes to reflect the lurid colours of the man made ash wastes, or something like that ..

I was originally going to make the wastes bright but thought that the contrast between monotone and garish could be quite nice.

Hey peeps , just a quick one haven't had the mojo for painting , lately , i think i need a good daylight bulb , i cant see anything in my dining room (where i paint), after 4pm and the days have been taken up with real life shame on me.


I have been playing around with the lilith coven though , those deldar make great Escher. no pics as yet though , i did however manage to get a lick of paint on the board along with some woodland scenics wet effect. really tried to capture the effect of an oily water pipe leakage that has a recent ash fall over it. I think the effect works okay, i did it by spraying white gw spray onto the still wet wet effect along with some inks , then creating a current through the sump. Unfortunately since taking these pics the wet effect has dried out fully and split in several places will need a new covering i stink now. Edit "i stink now." I meant to say Think

And before i forget i started a off dakka blog for my less wargaming related ideas , i have only one post so far , and i wont be repeating myself with either blog , so feel free to see if my unrestricted ramblings are to your taste, i doubt it will be updated regularly as here though , as i find the camaraderie in dakka much more fun.

@Vik , i don't think i could make much money, but as long as it covered materials and gave me a few pounds spending money i would be happy. i don't have the room to store the stuff i create unfortunately, this seems like a good way of getting rid of the stuff i make so it doesn't end up getting wrecked around the house. I did find a retailer of the extruded polystyrene now , in the UK i found it comes under yellow foam , more regularly .

@PDH Obviously you should have suggested Necromuda I insist you start an all female army SOB Gang for her right away. Only converted minis mind you

That looks very ashy. The liquid came out great, with bits of ash clinging to the surface, having just been blown onto it. It doesn't seem colorful enough, though. I guess the colors would happen in different areas... this just happens to be a mostly grey ash area. Those figures AND the jetbike are incredible! Your reproduction of that old drawing is remarkable. I can't wait to see them painted.

i second commander cains comment for you to make a tut on working with watereffects at least... i saw in my time here at dalla quite a bit of that watereffects done by you and i would love to one day use that stuff but not ruin it in the first go^^ so a bit of helping from your part would be greatly apreciated^^

Hi folks , still working on the dio , I havent done too much though , just painting up the minis so i can photo. Thought i would share the progress as it goes , as i think it will take a while to paint them all

@Commander Hey matey , sorry , i did kinda do a mini tutorial on the previous page , but somethingtells me you want MORE !! Consider it on the list , although it pretty straight forward mate , just regular painting then a layer of wet effect or two or three Glad you like matey, i was pretty unsure weather or not to add more colour into it , but the monotone seems to work with the idea of ash , nearer the hives, where i imagine this to be, just on the outskirts .

@The Good Green , Funny should mention the colour thing as i never intended it to be grey , it just kinda happened , i think i was more trying to capture the feeling of the pictures by goodwin and Blanche , keeping the monotone feeling as much as i could tbh. although i know in the deeper wastes bright and varied colours would work better . I always wanted this to be almost a 3d version of the pictures, well kinda Cheers matey

I also would like to thank My dakka friends in this post , as I noticed its been about a year just over since i first posted , i was pretty down ( after being unemployed for a rather long time ) and rather arrogant ( because i am a knob ), and all you guys have helped me get over my self , i feel much more positive these days..Still an arrogant knob though .. whatyagonnado But seriously This blog and the friends i have made since i started it here on dakka have greatly improved my mental health , and for that i humbley thank you ,

Congrats on passing the year mark, Neil! Pretty sure we should be thanking you for all the ideas, inspiration and amazing work you put out for people to ogle over, and at such an awesome rate too. This is by far and away (IMHO) the most original and varied blog on here. Absolutely love all the ash wastes stuff you're producing at the mo (seriously inspiring for what I'm doing too, as you can imagine ), but I haven't had the time I'd like to comment on it all :( Doesn't mean I am not checking it out when I can though!

The standard bearer is a work of art - The standard itself is brilliant and the colour scheme you've used is ideal: cohesive, while keeping the ragtag theme. Speaking of rags, the rags are perfect, and I might be stealing the textures for a few of my own models, if you don't mind

Would love to see your inspirational stuff coming for at least another year! (and sorry for inflating your ego a little )

the glow effect i see on those goggles...hmmm... one of these days...one of these days...i have to try that too... looks almost as if they would be capable to light up a room in total darkeness... also they are a very cool contrast to the muted scheme of the wastland IG...
