@TechGuard: Cheers, glad that you like them. I'm afraid it will take some more time until they're finished given my general painting speed when it comes to my own models.

Alright, couldn't resist doing some more Infinity painting so I finally finished this little fella:

It's not perfect, the board needs some more work and it's a bit of a quick and dirty paintjob overall but I'm on a bit of a tight schedule. Hope you like it nevertheless.

@Moltar: Yay, I'm a hero. Good to see you back on this thread too and thanks for the comment!

@Gitsplitta: Thank you. Recently I love indulging in this reflecty-blue-shiny stuff on the Nomads minis.

@Dysartes: Aw. :( What I meant was "it could need lotsa finishing touches". It's not like I painted that guy in 30 minutes or something. still took me long enough.

Thought I'd dig up the last two regular guys from the Mordheim warband:

Okay, here's what's next - some more Imperial pikes:

I looked over the Swedish cavalry minis I have and noticed that I just need some more from another manufacturer for added variety. Thing is, as soon as I do that, I'll probably order some more pikemen as well (on which I'm over the planned amount already. Keep in mind that these guys come in packs of a hundred which means just over three more units. Yes, there is a certain snowball effect to this whole project I'm afraid.

Another thing I noticed is that I'm not entirely happy with the pikemen in soft hats. They might be a bit "late war" looking so I painted the guys above to wear breast and back armour so at least they'd look somewhat like the time they belong into. Would also be great to have some units in different kinds of helmets as well but hey, I guess you can't be picky if you choose "not popular period in not popular scale".

Anyhow, I guess these are just a "cheaper" regiment, I may even make the colours on the command a bit more generic and make the regimental colours to be switchable and have them as either protestant or catholic mercenaries depending on what's needed at the moment.

Solved the problem years ago by just keeping my eyes closed while painting and using the Force.

Thanks for the comment anyhow! Dismissing everything that is productive I started doing a unit of Habsburg Dragoons. Also should have met with some people at a local club tonight where they showcase a Seven Years War game but alas, it was cancelled. Now sitting here, painting Dragoons and Mordheim fellas and waiting for X-Com to unlock. Oh by the way, earlier today I was told that these pike guys above OBVIOUSLY aren't Bavarians at all. That's what you get for using the flag called "unknown-0", thinking that it would be Bavarian due to the light blue and white hash patterns. In fact, juding from the flag, these guys are from Friedrich V.'s Electoral Palatinate so they're quite protestant and not catholic at all. What do you know. I think that these guys will be one of those turncoat units who fight on whatever side they're needed at the moment.

Oh, yesterday I ordered some 250 more minis for the Thirty Years War thing. :S The mountain of lead is getting scary.

@Cave_Dweller: Thanks muchly. I need to get some army shots done again once the next few minis are done. These should look EXCELLENT on the table.

To proceed, here's a first WIP of Piccolomini's Dragoons (imperials of course).

On a related note, I just discovered this humorous bit about the Treaty of Westphalia. Fun stuff.

A bit of a change there. The blade of the scimitar looks pretty gak at this point but will be fixed! I think I may enjoy weathering metals a bit too much after all the Space Orks painting but it fits the Ogre mini overall, don't you think?

That ogre looks awesome (sans that sword, which I'll pretend I didn't notice), weathering looks really good, especially the verdigris on the belly plate. And for some reason, maybe the larger areas, I'm loving his skin tone. Good stuff, Sigur.

@Moltar: Thanks very much!

@nerdfest09: Hehehe, yeah, for some reason I was in the mood to paint the Ogre first. Must really be me subconsciously trying to balance the smaller scale stuff. I like the way you describe his facial expression. He truly is the Kathy Ireland of Ogredom!

@Baiyuan: Thanks very much. That's the Avatars of War Ogre character, built straight out of the box so to speak. All I did was leave off the impaled skulls on his back and tacked on random stuff he collected plus that Empire shield on his right shoulder.

Another update!

As you can see, the blade looks a tad better now, looks alrightish in real life, camera picked up the metallics in the worst possible way though. Guess I'll have to redo these parts a little and get some more work on the hair done. Casting's a bit dodgy on that too. (excuses, excuses, I know... :p )

@Rogue Wolves: Thanks very much.

@MrMerlin: Allerbesten Dank!

@Gitsplitta: Cheers muchly. Also I'm impressed that you spotted the blank eye in the picture. When I take pictures of minis I try to get a view on it like someone who hasn't just spent hours and hours holding and painting it and I didn't think that blank eye would be identifiable as such from the picture.

Update! The Ogre's pretty much on that "not quite finished but finished enough" level like the other minis so far and is put aside for the final touch-ups along witht he other chaps. This project is taking a tad longer than I had planned (yes, big surprise there ) but it's really nice to see this warband come together with such a strong and striking colour scheme.

The last bunch of WIP humans in the warband:

On a different note, my latest Old Glory toys arrived remakably quickly:

Now just let me put them away real quickly before I start playing with them. Bought way too many minis in 2012 so far. Hereby I pledge that I won't buy any miniatures any more, starting This Sunday (because there's this wargaming event and they surely will have those GREAT offers on historical stuff, you know...) and lasting until....well, probably right before Christmas! Yes, you heard it, that's ... oh well.... six, seven weeks I guess?

Those Dragoons are finished. Of course they aren't Piccolomini's as I said before because I had no fitting flag. So they're Merode's now. Not that it makes a bit difference. The main thing is that these guys get a pretty flag. I'm also, for the first time, happy with how the flag bends. I messed that up on all other units so far which is yet again annoying. Note how the leader guy got a yellow plume for his helmet and the drummer got a little drum (both from GS and GS and plasticard respectively).

On foot

On horse

Then we got the first two units of imperial musketeers:

Next to their "parent" unit of pikemen

And because I got some more units finished, I thought it's time for new army shots.

Imperials

Swedes

I should have set those up on a grass mat I guess. Well, next time. Somehow I'm not happy with what the pikemen units look like. Longer than wide as a bad idea I'm starting to think. Oh well. Wouldn't be me if every single unit wouldn't mean reconsidering the whole basic concept of how I base these buggers.

So let's have a look at what's left to do from my original army lists. Just a side note, these are rather small army lists I intend to go beyond of ("for what?" - I have no idea. Seriously. This "project" may have been a horribly bad idea overall but hey. Let's view it as me playing WoW or something.). My supergood excuse is that this ruleset is basically made to be played with large armies so I have to get large ones. Two thereof. Of course it makes sense!

So the imperial side, let's see... I still need one more unit of pikemen (still blank metal) and four more units of musketeers (all blank metal. I MAY have to order some additional musketeers in general) plus one medium cannon and one more unit of cuirassiers (actually half painted already. I just got really tired of painting those guys so the third unit was kicked out of the batch of Cuirassiers I painted earlier.). These red-shirted Dragoons I added actually weren't on the list at all. Maybe I'll have those plus some other unit replace the third unit of cuirassiers (probably not though. I'll just make the armies bigger).

As far as Swedes and allies go there is some more stuff left to do as you can see from the army pictures. One more unit of pikemen (blue regiment), two units of musketeers (Saxons or Electoral palatinate or what it's called in English) two units of light cavalry (assembled), 2 untis of finnish cavalry (assembled), one unit of dragoons on horse and foot and one more units of dragoons on horse. Beyond that list what I got painted is one light cannon. I may get a unit of commanded musketeers (independant musketeers running around on their own. Having them go along with the cavalry is a very Sweden-like thing to do.) too to offset the fact that the Imperials got one unit of dragoons too many.

Apart from all these units both armies need a bunch of commanders to tell them where to go. Or at least make suggestions. On top of that the armies require impressive baggage trains on which I'm not quite sure how I'll do those yet. Maybe several small bases, maybe a few large, diorama-like ones.

I know, that stuff probably isn't as interesting to look at as the latest GW or Warmachine release but oh well. I'll make up for it. No more historical stuff for the next weeks, but instead really neat looking Mordheim, some sculpting and Space Marines! And daemons!

@Dysartes: Thanks very much. I hope that I didn't come across as overly disappointed for the historical stuffs not generating replies or anything. I have indeed painted a fair bit of stuff in 6mm this year. All old Epic 40k minis. Painted meself an Ultramarines army too! I also once did this commission job a few years ago. about 400 Greeks of which all but just a small handful of bases were all single-pose hoplites.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks! I almost went with 15mm scale for this project. WAY more manufacturers of TYW stuff around than in 10mm.

@Moltar: Cheers! The flags I buy printed on paper. Originally I thought of making them myself but I simply don't have the time for that and I'm VERY glad I opted to go with bought ones. About those pencils: I'm fairly sure that the "full colour" part would be the least problem.

Okay, I got ANOTHER unit finished today. Woo! In a weird, twisted way this weekend was kind of productive. Listing the remaining units to do kind of motivated me to finish this third unit of imperial cuirassiers:

Maybe some horses need some spots and socks and such and the musician's little pennant on the trumpet needs some heraldry on it but, as with earlier units, I'll add that once I got a flag for this unit Which is a bit of a problem actually because It's kind of hard to find more cuirassiers flags. I'll pester the guy from Maverick Models to scale one down for me if he can find more.

Apart from that, nothing astonishing here. Pretty standard unit, very simple colourscheme. I'm thinking of maybe adding some other colour to the plumes on the cuirassiers.

Apart from that I built two medium cannons:

Actually started converting some crewmen so I don't have the same crew on every single cannon. I was surprised to see that the medium cannons actually are considerably larger than the light ones. Heavy cannons must look really impressive. Anyhow, probably no limbers for those things for now because I'm a lazy bugger and I don't see much of a reason for limbered artillery anyway. Would make things too "mobile" around the game.

Anyway, at least one more unit's (almost) finished and off the table. Or ready to put on the table, depening on how you view it. Now I'll quickly put all things TYW away and get back to commission work.

@Dysartes: Thanks muchly. Please let me know if your guy has a bit of hair sticking out of the kind of braid-holder on his back because mine either was missing or - most embarassingly - I lost it. Had to resculpt the lower part of the hair and the thing that holds the braid together. Were you also weirded out at first that the left part of the braided beard just ends in the metal bit while the right part doesn't?
