To be fair to GW, the current Bloodthirster kit is chock full of parts. Not much room for those axes, the head and broken wings.

At the same time, they didn't really need to invent two other bloodyhirster types to fill the existing kit with extra axes and heads

I have to wonder how much of the Skarbrand kit will be interchangeable with the Bloodthirster.

Damn it, I just knew someone would say that!

Going to have to agree with others, though, never expected him to get a model. Now can we please get around to a nice Tzeentch release?

GW must meet their annual skull targets, though. Stormcast Eternals are somewhat lacking in that regard.

Indeed. Unless he share some sprues with the excisting BT kit, it's a massive waste of capacity to release another big deamon. Let alone the only one that already has gotten a new plastic kit recently.

Way better pose than the terrible posed bloodthirster.. but once again the GW sculptors mess up something so simple that detracts from the entire model.. Uh why is he holding the axes like that? It's such an obvious error I gotta wonder what goes on in the studio.

Skarbrand dont look as nice as the bulk BT IMO, although, its nice to have an option to make a different pose, and its in no way a bad sculpt from what I can tell.
I think he would benefit from a darker, burned, shade, especially the wings.
He dont look alot bigger than the common thirster, but its hard to tell.

All in all I just feel its a totaly wasted release, and compleat collapse of priorities.
No one asked for this.

It's easier to carry an axe like that. When you swing an axe, your hand slides further down the haft and lets the weight of the head do the work.

Long story short, you hold them close to the head when your enemies are up close, and since he likes to get up close and personal...

As for the mini itself, dig the rockin' facial hair!

The Head looks exactly like one of the BloodThirster options, but they added a beard... Im not to impressed, but I reaaaaally enjoyed painting the bloodthirster so I will probably pick up one of these. Hopefully its cheaper since it sould what, make one model?

I wouldn't want to be Thanqoul right now (if he survived the End Times).

That is one ferocious looking bloodthirster. I get all the comments to the line of 'why not just include him on the original thirster sprue? The one, like, from six months ago?'

Because that would make sense, and common sense and GW do not usually go hand in hand. Also, the wings. Shredded wings is his fluff, so there was no way they could have included two sets of wings in one kit.

Plot twist: its a repackage of the original bloodthirster with an extra sprue, costs $17 more than the previous kit.

Is it a plot twist when its a highly probable outcome? Hell I wouldnt even doubt that they simply sell it as a bits sprue, and make you buy the original bloodthirster separate.

Name the last time they sold a bits sprue that wasn't for Space Marines and fit in a blister.

Still a blister and since people keep referring to the Stormcast as "Sigmarines", it's the same thing.

They're not going to sell Skarbrand as an upgrade kit. I would be surprised if he has shared parts with the Bloodthirster or includes any portion of the Bloodthirster kit.
I would be highly surprised if this is the same thing as the Imperial Knight, where they added a new sprue but changed nothing else.

Yeah, his arms and legs are posed differently and the armor appears different as well. I havent built a bloodthirster, but I'd imagine that the parts layout wouldn't exactly make an 'upgrade sprue' an easy proposition.

So if GW follow the theme of a centrepiece 'big guy' in AOS- Celestant Prime being the first- this has me stoked for Duardin and Aelfs.

(I doubt Skaven will get another big guy after the Thanqoul/ Verminlords earlier this year.)

I did build a Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage(the guy with the huge flippin' axe who in AoS causes heads to explode--how freaking metal is that?) for a friend, and I can see some similarities to parts in the Bloodthirster kit but not enough to make me think that this is going to be the same as the IK.

Also, Bell of Lost Tacos is apparently reporting that Skarbrand will be $135 and is "over 6 inches tall".

You can see a Khorne bloodhound thingy in the picture, I don't know if that corroborates or disproves 6" tall seeing as I've not seen the hound things in the flesh and have quite a hard time picturing dimensions in my mind.

I read online (since im not at home to measure) that he current BloodThirster is 5.5" tall including the flame stand thing. Hopefully this one is noticeably larger than a standard bloodthirster.

Huuuuge plus for not having that awful ballerina pose. Axes look really, really cool. If I would ever think if playing Khorne Daemonkin 40k, I'd defo buy this and use it as a basic Thirster.

I do hope this might mean a dataslate pdf release thing for Skarbrand in KDK.

I have quite a few Fleshounds(unpainted ARRR!) , so if no one does it before I get home (7-8ish ET), I'll post a pic of the hound next to the new Bloodthirster for a size comparison.

I think that skarbrand model is wicked awesome. I fully expected him to be retconned into oblivion by the time a daemons dex got updated. One of the coolest pieces of fluff in the daemon dex is his personal story, and i'm pumped that he finally has a fething official model.

Hopefully a bit of rules changes will make him a bit more useful on the tabletop, too.

I didnt buy the bloodthirster model, but i'll definitely get my hands on the exiled one. A different paint job than that bold red skin will go a long way to making the model look better, and the way he holds the axes is pretty realistic... Why always grip them at the end of the haft? Much easier to hold them closer to the center of gravity until you're burying them in flesh.

After thousands of years of honing his fighting skills, he finds fights too quick and easy using weapons the way intended now. So he has taken to killing things only with the wooden hafts to prolong his enjoyment of the fight.
