I AM THE IMPERIAL FIST!
I AM FEAR INCARNATE!

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I registered just to subscribe to this thread. This is AWESOME. I read the whole thing last night. It's a very plausible "what if" scenario.

If GW Hasn't obtained a copyright for "41k", "WH41k" or similar variants, you should go for it.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Orky goodness, but I am really looking forward to the Space Wolves and Ultramarines meeting face to face.

I mean just look at the recent bumbling acts of marketing childishness we've seen in just the past year! Iron Man 2. All the trailers, previews, interviews, Comi-Con panels, tie-ins with burger joints and whatnot. None of that should have happened. The real way to market a movie like Iron Man 2 is to not tell anyone you're making it until a week before its release and then BAM, you hit 'em with the movie. You get everyone to sign NDA's that are punishable by forfeiture of all the person's assets and/or the death penalty, you hire hitmen to kill journalists that sneak in to take photos, you threaten local towns with forced sterilisation should they blab that something's filming in their town, and then then you say nothing about the movie at all and, in fact, even go so far as to deny you're making it.
Avatar. Another great example. All that hype about it being the most expensive movie ever made, the genius of the special effects, and so on. James Cameron should have denied he ever intended to make a movie after Titanic and then zzzzzzzzaaaaaaappp, Avatar - Realease Date - 1 week from now!
That's the real way to market. None of this preview/trailer/hype bull gak. You say nothing, you deny everything, and you leave everyone guessing as to what the hell you're doing until you physically are no longer able to.
Think of just how much money Avatar and Iron Man 2 could have made if we'd never known they existed until they were already in theatres? Hundreds more. Possibly even hundreds of billions more. Why is GW the only one who gets this?

You know how much I admire your work DLS and I want it to continue, but I too miss the bullet form of events occuring in the 40k universe (of DLS). Also, can you include the Ebon Drakes SM Chapter in your work somehow? I mean even if I am my chapter is wiped out in a last ditch effort to stop the World Dragon C'Tan would be awesome. Being included in your work is awesome.

If you're [DLS] taking requests (which I don't know if you are ) can I request adding in the 707th? Or Lubyanka for that matter? Like Advent, I don't care if they're only mentioned in passing or completely and utterly wiped out. It'd just be uber awesome to get my Guardsmen mentioned in such an awesome story.

Here's a quick overview of Lubyankan regiments. If you want to know more (if you are taking requests) I have more to give

Lubyankan regiments are mostly Mobile Infantry regiments. Mobile Infantry regiments tend to be smaller than the average Imperial regiment due to their reliance on combined arms tactics. While on paper Lubyankan regiments are broken down into Infantry, Armored, Artillery, etc. Regiments, in practice these regiments never go into combat in one group that are unofficially known as Mobile Infantry Regiments. They are instead split up and merged together with units from other regiments, resulting in units that are more proficient in combined arms tactics than the average Guard regiment. Of course, the trade off is that Lubyankan Guardsmen are not as capable in fighting battles without the heavy support they're used to.

Oh Mightly Lord of Fluff
there will be many offerings to you if you add my IG army the 501st Calvonian long range assult recon.
they are my guard wo use hit and run tactics in desert warfare and gurrila warfare, commanded by Colonel Lawrence. the officers and vetrans wear clothing similar to tallarens. but not the standard troops (they look like cadians in flak armour). they are known to incorprate survivors from other regiments found in the desert to boost their numbers.
Even if they are only mentioned or wiped out from the face of the galaxy, I don't care but it would be a great honour and you shall become the patron Saint of the 501st.

but if your not taking requests thats cool to

pleae can we have some more fluff

Trouble is with the bullet points, they generally deal with events that span a long period of time, wheras the awesome descriptions only cover a day to a week.

This is really good DLS, have you ever read the 'Conquerer' Series by Conn Iggulden? Looking at the stuff you write, I think you'd enjoy it immensly.

If you haven't heard of the series, Its a trilogy of books about the rise and death of Genghis Khan, and what happened in between. He has a style of writing very similar to your own, and the series is really excellent (as is yours of course... although it isn't a series (yet!)

...urrrr... I dunno

Seanron. Good Seanron. Good, great Seanron. You've done it. You'be bloody gone and done it. You have written the single greatest fan-based fluff the world, nay, the universe has ever known. You are the Fitzgerald, the Shakespeare of the fluff-writing world. Quite frankly, you are goddamn awesome.

It took me a fair while to read through all of this, but by the God-Emperor was it worth it. There were moments I wanted to yell "NOOOOOOO!" in an unseemly fashion (such as the death of Ravenor) and moments when I actually did leap up, point at the screen and yell "FETH YEAH, SUCKA! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET!," such as the moment when the mysterious robed stranger (the emprah, methinks) showed Peturabo what the goddamn score was. I also liked the way you focussed on the other races, such as the Tau-Eldar war and the return of the Demiurg and old-school Hrud. Kinda sad old Ghazghull died the way he did, but still, what a way to go. Also, LOVED the return of the primarchs and of Magnus to the Imperium, that was one of the "FETH YEAH" bits.

I now await with bated breath for the next installment: I would love to see what has happened to the necrodermis-nids, and to find out how the Demiurg/Imperial Fists war goes. Whatever happens, you have won my soul, and that's quite a feat these days, by creating this masterpiece. I'd like to see a bit more from the Greenskins, what they are up to and what has happened in the wake of Ghazghull's death, but quite frankly, you could write about Lion'el Jonnson scratching his arse and I'd still read it.

Damn good job, sir, and by the love of all that is good and coated in sugar frosting, keep it up!

I joined the forum just to reply to this thread. I wanted to say how much I have enjoyed the whole fiction DLS and can't wait for more. I very rarely see fan fiction written at the level of quality that you do and it is refreshing to read a plausible future of 40k fluff (although I may disagree on some developments ).

Although I love the in depth following of battle for Terra I must say that I enjoyed the bullet point format more so. I think it is only due to the fact this was how the thread started and the pace that that format allows plot to develop at the expense of character development. However I believe you have already said that character development is not a priority in a fan fic that dominantly uses pre-created characters.

I enjoy both methods of story telling but I would almost love it if you ran them parallel. By this I mean you have the fast paced, quickly developing bullet point story telling that tells us the key events and how they unfolded and their result but lacks detail but also have stories when you have time like the battle of Terra that gives us attachments to smaller characters etc.

Just my 2 cents and appreciation for what you have done. Keep it up.
