Bad paintjobs are one thing though. Easily fixed with a bit of work. Behavior issues on the other hand... That's what I can't stand. I'd rather play againt a mature opponent with an army so bad that bare plastic would look better, than play a decent looking army with a screaming, crying abomination behind it.

Don't be such a bunch of grumpy guts! Kids are still being shaped by their experiences. You don't reject a kid, ever! It makes them feel inadequate and leads to them trying to overcompensate for their failings. I know it requires a ton of patience to deal with kids, but you know what? I'm 26 now, and the older I get the more I realise how limited my wisdom and understanding is. I may be wiser than I was at 15, but that doesn't make me wise. Our egos tend to inflate too much when we are faced with someone younger than us.

Pure 100% Rubbish. It's that line of thinking that has lead to Sports Days being cancelled because children might "lose" events and cripple them emotionally for life.

Gwar! has it. Plus, I'd much rather reject a game against a young kid than have them smash the several thousands of dollars of lovingly painted minis in my collection because they're losing the game.

Minis > Immature child

Of course, if the kid is able to handle losing well, then I have no qualms about playing him/her, even if they're 7 or 8 as long as they pay attention to the game and don't get out of control if they're doing poorly. If the kid starts throwing a tantrum because I killed his favorite unit or one of his tanks, the game is over and I won't be playing so much a 150 point game with him/her in the future.

In your head, screwing with your thoughts...

I started playing at 16, and everyone at my gaming store was in their 20's. Needless to say, I felt somewhat uncomfortable being the youngest guy in the store. I'm at the same store now, but there are a lot more young people now than there were. Some of the regulars are in that 13-ish age range, and yes they are pretty hyper and spastic. But at least they don't throw tantrums... (I've never seen anyone do that, and I can't really imagine anyone doing that, especially when faced with a big muscular guy who looks like he would beat your ass to a pulp for scratching a mini, let alone making you pay for it)
It probably helps that I have a very broad sense of humor, and I can appreciate 'immature' humor. I myself am pretty fond of innuendo; nothing like a good penis joke to lighten up the mood, eh?

The young uns can be a trial, but their enthusiasm is often infectious. It brings out some of my own more youthful qualities.

Overall I approve of young gamers, though I haven't had any properly bad experiences, I usually game with friends or at the late night gaming group.

Of course I once went to my local GW store to find a member of staff cleaning up vomit with a load of kitchen towel and a wallpaper scraper, some kid had gotten over excited/full of bad food and hurled on the floor. But that's not really about gaming, more just part of the salesman's curse

I started playing in 1996 when I was 8, and I was the exception to the rule in the local GW, there were hardly any kids playing at all.

Once I had a few friends in the hobby (at high school) we started playing at each others houses and I didn't really go into the store so much. When I got to college I had a card so I could buy mini's from the internet, and I went into the store very rarely.

Last couple of years I've popped in a couple of times and as an adult, find myself once again an exception to the rule... ho-hum.
Like a friend of mine said to the current store Manager 'Do you need a qualification in childcare to work here now?'

"A heathen, conceivably. But not, I hope, an unenlightened one."

Eeeeh, wargaming weren't like this back in my day!

I hate kids lol.

Nah not really, but I dont teach guitar to anyone under 10, and thats a general principle for me too. Its really just a case of some people not being able to get on with younger people because were so caught up in discovering adulthood that weve forgotten how to be really embarassing to yourself and not care.

Splitting leagues is a good Idea tho, for people on both sides of the divide.

True that, but at least the power gamers are just going to piss you off. They won't make a scene or destroy your stuff. And they'll often pay attention to the game to see where they can cheat or just give you a good ruthless steamrolling. Sure, it sucks, but it's better than kids that don't know how to play in the slightest, lose interest and wander off, get noisy when they're losing, etc...

And my buddy started a Church on fire once . Granted we were really drunk and it was completely an accident, but it was still hilarious in hindsight

I've never really played anyone "young"

I started 40k when I was 14 and all the people I play are my age and older, yet we still get into disagreements.

Devastator... the answer to the problem of honesty in air-soft is making them wish they had called the hit on the first 5 hits. High powered guns.

This is why in paintball we play a mercy rule at 3m or less. If you yell "Mercy!" or "Drop it!" etc..., the other person has to drop their gun or you can light them up.

There're fewer joys in the world than spraying some paint-wiping cheater in the thighs or gut from 4 feet away and watching him roll around in pain that he brought on himself

This kind of generalization is distasteful to me. I've played against kids who are somewhere around 10(I didn't ask) and other than having to give a couple of lessons on rules I found that sometimes playing against a kid that age is less of an annoyance than playing against a few misfits that are 10-20 years my senior.

I'm post-30 as are most of the gamers in my area. A few kids play the game but they don't make it to the store that often.

I actually would like to see more because we worry that in 10+ years we'll all be playing Dawn of War or some other PC game instead of tabletop.

Meh i fit into the young age group (am 13) i am quite quiet and hop i am not annoying to other people but i do hate people under 10 playing...
I will give you three instances why,

Playig a 1 v 1 against a 9 year old on my tean lit up my lascannons and killed two terminators so what dose he do? Throws a tantrum because i am picking on him and firing at him!!!! I mean WTF

Playing 2 v 2 a ki walks up with his army goes "can i play?" ddnt let have a word in and started unpacking...

And a group of then year olds were playng against me and a mate he was using his mighty fine bane blade, had spent MONTHS on it. It wiped out most of the opposition and the 10 year old are prety angry and one of them is morbidly obese... SITS on the baneblade and walks off we then hear him bragging to his mates i mean what a Fething Gak Gak!!!!!

I am 20, started at 19. I am annoyed by some kids, but we really don't have any at my FLGS. I am also the oldest of 7, so I can deal with kids. I am patient as long as you aren't dumb. That makes me angry more than little kids.

I'm 14, and yes, I will admit that I would probably be pretty annoying in a tournament. But that's only because I've been playing 40k for about a month, and I've only fought 3 battles with a friend who is just as much of a warhammer noob as I am. We got the starter set at the same time, and only have rudimentary understanding of the rules.

We actually did the assault phase completely wrong for our first two games.

But really young people (like 9 year olds) can be pretty annoying.

Is complete apathy a valid answer. I haven't played against any children in the hobby yet. (have yet to play in a tournament or at the FLGS, always with my friends on our table) However, we do have some MtG kids at our local shop and they can be annoying but they are good kids so I don't mind.

I am 16 now so I am at the stage of hmmm I dunno what you would call maybe an experienced gamer. I started playing ect when I just turned 10. I have always been called mature though , probably because I am like 2 weeks away from being in the year above lol. Damn September Birthdays . Plus I grew before everyone else lol but they have all caught up now :/ .Kids can be cool or really annoying . A guy who goes to my school is like 13 just got into the hobby has chaos so I feel likeam helping him . Painting and gaming so on. Its fun when its a firend something you can relate too. But not have to feel liek a baby sitter.
