Indeed! But in a good way of course!

Did I mention that one of our better tournament players, the guy who even got first in the prelims last year, is talking about going to a different store to play this year? Oh, and I'm bringing Necrons to use and I know someone else is too. We'll be push overs!

Dash: Borderlands is a really good venue. Really enjoy playing there. I'll be back on land in a week or so, shoot me a PM if you need a contact in town to help arranging anything. I know myself and a bunch of the other locals are looking to get preperatory games in for Hardboyz, so if you come down early you can prolly get in on some of that as well.

Black: Come on down. If you're trolle enough! lol

If you guys are the Tournament Organizer for the Ard Boyz event near you check out this article on Capture and Control. Capture and Control: Preparing for ‘Ard Boyz – An Organizer’s Perspective It is very informative even if you aren't a TO.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

From the article, this paragraph caught my attention:

- Inqusitorial Allies. It has happened without fail at every ‘Ard Boyz that someone shows up with a list that includes Allies, particularly Witch- or Daemonhunters with inducted whatever, but also IG or Marines with Inquisitorial Allies, that is completely illegal. Make sure you know how the Allies rules work these days from the various FAQs, and scrutinize those lists before the first round!

Anyone care to elaborate? Since when are IG not allowed to take Inquisitorial Allies? I see IG with an assassin or with an inquisitor Lord plenty of the time....

You're saying Main List IG with Allied Inq/Assassin.

He's saying Main List IG/SM with Allied Inq and Inducted Guard/Marines.

You can't induct another army as allies in addition to your list. (So no SM lists with an Inq Lord (Okay) and IG Infantry Platoon (Not Okay)).

Okay:
SM with WH and DH
IG with WH and DH
WH and DH with SM
WH and DH with IG

Not Okay:
SM with WH and DH and IG
IG with WH and DH and SM
WH (Sisters) and DH with SM

And other restrictions, such as no adding SM units to DH armies with Grey Knights, but it is ok to add GK to a SM army. etc etc. 'Ardboyz tends to bring people out of the woodwork, some of which are trying to up their 1500pt army and add something to it to get to 2500. Allies always looks like an easy route. But the rules don't always get followed.

Ahah. I knew I missed one.

On a parallel note, I don't think the 'ard Boyz rules covered Inquistorial Forces with Allies.

So Witch Hunters with DH Allies.

Thoughts?

(I'm bringing WH (Sisters) with DH Inq Lord and Inducted Guard. Buuuutttt... I'm also bringing another list with WH (Sisters) with WH Inq Lord and Inducted Guard, just in case I get turned down by the local or regional for double allies.)

Sorry if I wasn't clear, it was kind of a long sentence. I'm not saying allied forces are illegal, I'm talking about both what pretre mentioned, as well as simple stuff like an assassin in a SM army with no Inquisitor, or a WH army with a squadron of Leman Russ Executioners, etc.

Both of which I have seen in lists and had to address before an event. My point is simply that Inquisitorial Allies aren't cut-and-dry, and there's plenty of room for mistakes from both the players and the TO if they aren't competent with the interactions. It's also handy to know what you're talking about so that you can answer questions from other players about what their opponent can take. It's happened that a player wasn't familiar with how Allies work, and wouldn't believe his opponent that what he's got in the list is legit. If the Judge doesn't know what's going on and has to run around trying to find the FAQ about it (like I did that time; it was one of those TO lessons I learned the hard way), it's going to create a problem in that game.

From the 'Ard Boyz Rules:

"Inquisitorial armies may take Imperial Guard and
Space Marine allies, chosen from the latest versions of
their codices. As both of these codices have changed
recently, use the following amendments to the list on
pg 30-31 of the Daemon Hunters book and page 26
of the Witch Hunters book:
Troops
Space Marine Tactical Squad, Space Marine Scout
Squad, Imperial Guad Infantry Platoon, Imperial
Guard Veteran Squad. Unit upgrade characters
may NOT be taken (i.e. Commander Chenkov,
Sergeant Bastonne)
Fast Attack
Space Marine Assault Squad, Land Speeder
Squadron, Space Marine Bike Squadron, Scout
Sentinel Squadron, Armored Sentinel Squadron,
Rough Rider Squad, Scout Bike Squad
Heavy Support
Space Marine Devastator Squad, Space Marine
Land Raider (Crusader and Redeemer as well),
Space Marine Dreadnought, Space Marine
Predator, 0-1 Leman Russ Squadron (Pask may NOT
be taken)"

The bold is my emphasis. Seems you can take a squadron of executioners after all...

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
