That... is... beautiful.

WoC characters, look no further for your Manticore needs (Does anybody use them in this army? I rarely see lists with them.) DE as well. Or, someone who's REALLY into Transformation of Kadon.

Really nice! They should sell the Lammasu head separately as well!
For demon conversions, terrain decoration etc.

That Lamassu head is amazing!

Wow!

I'll be buying one for my WoC army, and it will be a 'counts as' Manticore until that glorious day far in the future when Chaos Dwarfs officially return!

Thanks a lot Raging Heroes. Now I have to get a Manticore AND a Lamassu.

Wow, I can't believe this thread was on page 2 already after 4 days!

I missed the posting of the Lammasu head... I love it!!!

So, any chance those of us partial to the original wings will get our wish (I know, I know, can't please everybody! I'll buy it with either set, anyway... the new wings are less polarizing but also less "Wow!" to me)

It was a computer art. Making two moulds for wings doesn't seem economical, esp. when one set roused tempers.

I can live either way, they're both magnificent sets of wings. As much as I loved the old wings, if it's the change in wings that causes someone to decide to not buy such a magnificent model, then they have a series of objects shoved way too far up their own ass to think clearly.

Well here's some FANTASTIC news for those of us who felt that maybe the Manticore was a smidge small as a mount. I saw this over on the Chaos Dwarf forum.

I am curious how they work out the base size on this one, as there wouldn't normally be a use for a 'monster' that's 30mm based. It would be a little small for a chaos lord at that size.

It would have been nice if he was 20% bigger, as I wouldn't need to find a base then.

Well, it turns out that you are pretty much getting your wish! We sent it for 3D printing last week and scaled the entire Manticore/Lamassu almost 20% larger. The base you see on the image above is now at 37mm instead of 32mm.
BTW, the base you see on this image is only there for scaling purposes, the actual mini will not have it.

Assuming all proportions remained the same scaled to the base size it's really closer to a 13.5% increase, but it makes a huge difference. Obviously the new wings are different, but... BEHOLD!!!!

Edit: Adding a note that this is not an official image from Raging Heroes and is just my own estimate made by editing an official image because it was easier to visualize than imagining a 13.5% base size increase.

That really is a huge increase, it now looks to be absolutely terrifying.

No word on when we'll get to preorder this sucker?

Raging Heroes blog posted this on 6th December:
The Manticore (and Lamassu) master is in its final 3D-printing stages. This means that the first resin casts should be ready for shipping around the 20th of December!

Many of you have asked about the possibility of pre-ordering the Manticore, so we will open the pre-orders towards the end of the week.

I would imagine they are holding off until that 3d print is complete before taking pre-orders. They've said since the beginning that the December 20th ship date was a hopeful release date assuming everything went perfectly, particularly the things that are out of their hands like shipping the master from the 3d caster, no issues with the molds, etc. We all know how often even the best laid plans go perfectly. I don't assume it won't happen, I would just give a little wiggle room on things like pre-order and release times.

Absolutely...

I cannot wait to get that Lamassu variant though!

You and me both Alpharius! I have been looking over the fanbook for Chaos Dwarfs, doesn't look bad at all. Of course an official book from Warhammer Forge would AWESOME, I think between it and this Lamassu I may have to get started early.

I will definitely be pre-ordering it! I have no preference on whether it ships before Christmas... if I could get it by mid-January, that would be fantastic!

Ya know, the more I look at my little mock-up the more I see that I cut off the outer edge of the green one. Oh well, still does the job, might play with it more later.

Wouldn't worry about it Kirbi.
Like you say it does the job and gives a good idea of the size increase.

Too late, it kept bugging me. To be fair, the new one shows the size increase better. Thankfully it was much quicker to fix than it was to create the first time.

That does look crisper I have to say...
but now it is slightly the wrong shade of green!

Oh come on!

Though it's true, it is a slightly different shade of green, I removed the transparency of the larger silhouette image entirely, and brought the larger Manticore half a centimeter closer. In the semi-transparent one it was a bit tough to pick out certain details and being a smidge closer and non-transparent it's easier to compare the two regarding things like shoulder height, bulk of the central body, etc.

Of course, this is all a rough estimate based on an early-production image. That being said, I wonder if I can find a good silhouette of a Dark Elf Crossbowmen to put in there...

Anything less than $100 including shipping is fine by me. Although I'm expecting somewhere around $60-70.

Well, projected price was 40 euros and I doubt they'd shoot for too much more than that. People feel differently about 40 euros than they do 50. Even a 10% increase to 44 euros would put this pretty at 47 eu shipped, so we're probably looking at $57-63 shipped.

40 Euros + 3 for shipping and I am there in a heartbeat!

(Plus Lamassu upgrade too, I suppose?)

No word on the Lamassu pricing, but I can't imagine it would be too much more expensive than the base Manticore if it is any more expensive at all.

I know some miniatures turn out to be hugely more expensive than projected (like that hugely expensive and massive dragon that doubled in price), but RH has come a long way in infrastructure and I doubt they'd sign off on a big model size increase and the creation of a new head if it meant wrecking their goal pricing.

I wonder if there is upgraded shipping... the last time I paid for the cheapest shipping from overseas, my models got lost in the mail! (Although that company very kindly replaced them)

Can't wait

Am I the only one who find the whole "Manticore with a Lammasu/Lamassu-head" somewhat strange?

IMHO a Lammasu/Lamassu should have a human head on the body of a *bull* (with hooves) - not on the body of a wild cat with a scorpion tail...

This said, I will buy a Manticore (for my Dark Elves) as soon as the preorder is up - and a separate Lammasu/Lamassu head for use as terrain and to get those excellent skulls for the throne of Khaine.
