Haven't read a lot of WWI history have you?

"If you really want to know what it was like, to fight in the air in the great War, then go up to someone you have never met and who has never done you the slightest harm and pour a two-gallon tin of petrol over them. Then apply a match, and when they are nicely ablaze, push them from a fifteenth-floor window after first perhaps shooting them a few times in the back with a revolver. And be aware as you are doing these things that ten seconds later someone else will quite probably do them to you. This will exactly reproduce... the substance of First World War aerial combat and will cost your country nothing. It will also avoid the necessity of ten million other people to die in order for you to enjoy it."

Not quite true. There's a MAJOR vulnerability on the outside of an M1 Abrams that'll allow any infantryman that can read English and/or recognize caution stripes to kill the tank crew with relative ease (look at one up close some time. There's a reason some stuff on tanks is still classified). There's also sticky bombs (as shown in Saving Private Ryan), dropping a grenade down the main gun while it's loaded with a HEAT round, shooting 7.62mm rounds through the exhaust grill on the back of the tank, or hell... heavy duty wrenches stuffed between the drive sprocket and the tread.

Sorry. Spend a few years in the Army driving tanks, and you tend to ramble on about them somewhat

On-topic:

Only in 40k can you pray to a zombie while fighting the terminators.

Only in 40k can you be capable of interstellar hyperspace travel, yet still rely mainly on the sole train (left sole, right sole, left sole, right sole, etc...) for travel from place to place in your city.

Only in (tabletop) 40k would the human inquisition team up with wyches and demons to take down the emperor of mankind.

Only in 40k would space vessels capable of destroying entire planets still launch "boarding torpedoes" as a preferred means of attack.

Not quite true.

They tend to aim for capturing a ship rather than out-right destroying it.

Similarly to our old age pirates.

What good is raided money if its at the bottom of the sea?

Even still in Warhammer 40k do people rage out at "Communists" ( Tau ).

PS. That is a joke.

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Only in 40K will an army distrust arcane magic, then use an arcane magician (Rune Priest) to lead them into battle.

Only in 40k will a crevasse be able to swallow units that can fly

Only in 40K could you headshot a god with a sniper rifle (sadly no longer so - darn newcrons and their shards)

Only in 40K would people argue that Orks only ever use frontal attacks

Only in 40K would green, smelly fungus have a better grasp of teleportation and force field technology than humanity

Only in 40K would Space Marine armour actually allow movement and be considered combatworthy

Only in 40K would a race consider boarding an ancient, warp-tainted and genestealer/daemon infested hulk to be a good way of getting anywhere and a good laugh

Only in 40K would anyone get as bent out of shape as they do about the idea of female marines

It is all about objectives; otherwise every fight comes down to massacring the opposing army. That gets boring after a while. A decimated force that achieves is necessary objectives in the battle should win against a barely bloodied force that didn't take the time to achieve its goals.

I've won many a game because an opponent got stuck on killing all of my forces and never even gave any thought to the objectives until it was too late to achieve any of them. Getting the *right* job done is often more important than just killing the enemy. Heck your mission could be to wipe out enemy forces in a town, but leave the town intact. You can drop all your artillery on the town and kill your enemies, but you failed at the most important part of the orders: leave the town intact.

Not so brother.

The USMC might have chicks in it, but the crack commando's of the Royal Marines do not allow women in either.

And lets be honest, 30 mile marches with 90lbs of kit, 9 mile, half underwater assault courses, 200 meter fireman's carry in 90 seconds with both soldiers carrying full ammo loadout and support weapons? 30 foot vertical rope climbs with rifle and webbing?

Women couldn't get in even if they wanted to!
