lol... Failure is waiting for 1 hour watching auctions in a foreign country only to be told you cannot bid when you try to bid snipe @ 10 seconds...

Anyways, I'll post some pictures of what I am working on for a client today, just a brief preview:

Kaldor Draigo - Have created a base with cities of death pieces, plan to get Draigo about 1/2 - 3/4 done this evening.

I also have a Dreadknight to work on for him, but I'm definitely going to airbrush that to save overall time. I thought of airbrushing Draigo but I don't have a good enough brush to be do fine detail with, maybe I'll invest in one next (would be smart with all I buy and work on).

I did also kind of lol that nobody wants to see the 2nd Company Ultramarines so far.

Thats not failure, try getting outbid for a 5 man team of real tanith models at the last .2 secs. I about threw my computer.

The grey Knights will be cool to see. Draigo and the dreadknight are a mean team together. I found this video on 40knation and since then have wanted to make one of these chimera's for my inquistors, It just looks bad ass.

What do you think?

The tin is really nice... xD It's shiny and stuff and it's made by GW which instantly raises the value.

As for the brushes, I thought (In my stupidity) that they were probably worth it until I actually started looking up prices. Granted, some of the same types of brushes are very pricey so it's possible that they are worth it, as much as any GW product is.

It's just a shame it's so much, if the tin/brush set was under $40 I'd definitely have grabbed it since brushes cost like $10 anyways....

I will let you know how these brushes are, hope they are not synthetic, because it says genuine kolinsky sable hair blah blah blah

Below is just a bit of background I've written up for my Imperial Guard. I have never really seen anyone do a Terran Regiment and given that all of my guardsman are equipped in specialized gear (All Hostile Environment, Stormtroopers, Kaskrin + other misc stuff) riding in Valkyries/Vendettas; it seemed fitting that they would come from a world that had a good chance of having some very well armed troops. It also allowed me to develop a bit more character and personality with the officers and sergeants, as each of them will represent a family line that has served in the Imperial military since the Great Crusade if not longer.

The army for the most part, as mentioned before will use the Elysian list, but can also carry over to the normal IG Codex if need be, but doesn't fare as well there.

Let me know what you think.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Terran XIII Regiment

While the Imperial Guard are often considered the ill-equipped and unsung heroes, the regiments of Terra; the center of the Imperium are among the most well armed fighting forces in the galaxy. Benefitting from their close proximity with the forges of Mars, the Terran Regiments are equipped with the finest in Wargear. Many of these regiments are reserved, but some like the Thirteenth are deployed to the front lines of the Imperium’s most dangerous conflicts; often fighting side by side with the Inquisitorial Ordos’ or the Adeptus Astartes.

The Thirteenth Regiment favours a particular style of warfare very dissimilar to the majority of their counter-parts, the Thirteenth are officially designated for Airborne operations and maintain a full squadron of twelve gunships per company. Unlike most Regiments, these assets, are under their direct control, rather than that of the Imperial Navy. Before serving in the Thirteenth regiment it is common to serve in another Terran regiment first before requesting transfer, due to the additional training requirements required. Almost contrary to this, most of the officers within the Regiment come from families with a long-tradition of service to the Regiment which traces its roots back before the founding of the Great Crusade.

Commonly deployed as a full company, it is operational procedure for a mixture of Valkyrie and Vendetta gunships with the veteran troopers of the company to perform a rapid insertion to neutralize high priority targets. The rest of the company, will arrive via grav chutes to hold and secure ground, while Vulture gunships provide close range fire support. To say that the Thirteenth has mastered the art of the Blitzkrieg would be an understatement, conducting surgical strikes and crippling the enemy command structure; they specialize in winning the battle before the enemy even realizes it has begun.

Due to their specialized training and equipment, soldiers within the regiment are rarely considered expendable and it is due to this that their Officers are often loathe to waste lives without regard and fight wars of attrition as is common in many other regiments. Instead the officers of the Thirteenth have learned to spend the lives of the men and women they command with a great deal of reverence. Better to live and fight another day then die a pointless death.

Its very welll done and has alot of potential for conversions, characters and background to it. The idea of them fighting since the great crusade is a very neat idea and one that i highly approve of I also like the fact that its got a command that understands the values of human lifes and the ability to fight another day. That element seems to be missing too much in 40k.

I have never really seen anyone do a Terran Regiment

Oh i have and trust me, it wasnt excatly what i felt was "Terran". Standard cadian troopers with a fancy paint coat doesnt equal terran. Yes i realize that my tanith are basically cadians modified to look tanith but i put alot of work into filing, GS, edging out cloaks and finding new bitzs ect. This guy just used standard cadians unmodified. To me it felt lazy or undone like he had given it only half his effort. At the time that was before the harzard enviroment items from FW came out. Since then, ive figure that as long as it looks like something besides your standard run of the mill cadian and has the right "look" and effort (read: FW items, conversions, extra (insert awesomeness here)) then it'll be done right. In the end though, its only us (the modelers) that gotta like them right?

my quote from back when:

For a Terran Regiment, i think using the plain cadian models would be a mistake. This is Terra, Craddle of mankind, home to billions of souls, epicenter of the imperium of man. I think that the guardsmen from Terra would be well armed, well trained, and very elegant. cadain parts thrown in i think would ruin the match of the look. Gold and white would work maybe then if you want to use those colors.

The posters reply though seemed to give good ideas (which i'll add here and hope you dont mind )

I don't know, now that I think about it, if you read the descriptions of what Terra is supposed to actually be like - clogged with a hundred billion people, many of them pilgrims in desperate poverty - I think they'd have more in common with the troops of other hive worlds like Armageddon, with plenty of Ecclesiarchy support as well as psykers, since every sanctioned psyker is trained on Terra. Although rather than wearing respirators like the Steel Legions, they'd probably just be equipped with mass-produced standard-issue gear like the Cadians. You just couldn't equip the hundred million or so troops they'd send out to fight every year otherwise. Which is good, because Cadians are what I have.

I have to imagine living on Terra is like living in a planetary-scale combination of the Vatican, the Pentagon and the Department of Motor Vehicles - a totalitarian bureaucratic nightmare.

Luna is the center of the Imperial Navy, right? I'd have to imagine many of the military-minded folk of Terra would join the Navy in preference to the Guard, but the gangs that inevitably take over the lower portions of every hive world would probably get sent off to die as infantry, unless they were lobotomized and turned into servitors. Rather than being shining lords from the cradle of Mankind I'd think they'd be the underclass of the great capital - like the mobs that rioted in ancient Rome for bread and circuses, or the sweepings of London's pubs that found themselves press-ganged into the army and sent to fight halfway around the world. It makes me think of Haven from the Honor Harrington books - much of the tribute sent to the homeworld by the colonies goes to feeding the ever-expanding mob, which does little productive work itself but needs to be appeased at all costs.

Hope this has been helpful! I really cant wait to see where this goes

Thank you for the compliments as always my friend.

Ever since they released the Kaskrin models, they were the one set of Guard I really liked and then FW did the Hostile environment which is pretty much the same thing and I knew one day I would do a guard army centered around them. I see the Cadian wargear as being the standard of Guardsman everywhere, but I felt like a Terran Regiment would be very well armed. While the stuff posted by the other gent is good, you have to figure..

The High Lords of Terra and everything else, the Golden Throne that is on Terra (Earth) that I'm sure hive style conscript regiments are not the norm. They probably have PDF regiments ready to be called into service, but given the world they are from, I would expect some of the best gear. Regardless, it's a great excuse to create a very elite looking guard army where even the guys in the normal infantry platoon look like hardened veterans!

The hostile environment gear + the elysian weapons should help to distinguish them a lot.

The good news for me, is there is a light at the end of the tunnel where I will begin work on these guys soon. Just waiting on a few more things in the mail. Otherwise, got my dremel and magnets ready to build some valks in a week or so. xD

P.S. Say bye to my two contemptors, they were my only auctions to sell. Made a bit of profit. ^.^

Rereading my post it seems i came off a bit harsh (which i had feared and reconsidered posting it) but it wasnt my intention to do so.

I do think you've taken a completely differnt path from what the gent in that topic was doing and the FW additions and looks will make this Terrian Regiment looks amazing While i might not agree that cadian gear would be used by everyone, i do agree it would be the "standard" of what a guard reigment should have and be like. I agree as well that a guard regiment from terra would be well armed (and very deadly)

I also agree with your statement about the conscript regiments. i dont see them being the norm on terra. if anything i'd see them as how you posted in your fluff. elegant, proud, almost stubborn in being the center of the imperium, the cream of the best guard regiments in the galaxy so to speak. Best gear, best training, ect. I think it'll translate well into the models and the Fluff!

Hostile environment gear + elysian weapons will distinguish them alot and make them very unique.

As ever, I await updates with great interest and will be following this thread

Nooooo! I didn't take anything as harsh at all man. I always enjoy your responses, I look forward to them; you and Solstice always reply.

I just finished making a project carousel for my guard though, I took a display rack and covered up the fronts and backs to turn it into a place I can store and sort bitz for whatever I am currently working on. At present, it's all uber neat and sorted and looks pretty good, considering I had thrown out all my nice boxes and had to use scrap ones to make the inserts. I'll post some pictures up later, might inspire someone.

Also, another error from FW, yes, another.. two of my Hostile Environment Melta troops are severely deformed, like missing 1/2 their arms kind of deformed. lol

That's a good idea, I do make a request every time they make sure there are no errors but it seems like they do not, despite any assurances of 'we checked it over'.

I'm hoping to have some real updates after this weekend, got The Old Republic to mess around with..

Still toying with the color scheme, was thinking bleached bone or shadow grey for the vehicles, although I am not sure.

Yeah. I've always liked Shadow Grey but Bleached Bone is one of those colors that looks really nice when evenly painted. Whatever color I do the vehicles, I want to insure I do the fatigues the same.

Haven't read that book yet, but the color scheme makes sense for the Himalayas.

Definitely, I also debated using both colors but one for veteran fatigues and the other for the rest of the army. I won't be able to start testing it out until I grab soem cadian box sets to actually attach to the torsos so I'll figure it out in the mean time lol.

I planned to do the fatigues and carapace armor two different colors and have the armor match per squad, to make them easier to pick out.

Yeah, If you do a different colored shoulder pad for each squad that would look destinguished ie: squad 1 is red squad 2 is turquoise ect.
Also are you sculpting extra armor?

Not a bad idea either, I usually do something similar with my marines so I want to break it up a bit.

No plans to sculpt extra armor, every mini in the army has carapace armor modelled already (Kasrkin, Stormtroopers, HE Cadians & the Sedition Wars stuff) or something close to, if anything I'd have to try to down armor for the infantry platoon. lol

I might do some GS cloaks or something, but I haven't ever been good with GS. Good with other green stuff, but that kind, is not sculpted, but smoked...

After today, back to school and Warhammer.. xD (and my wife somewhere in there, she gets time to... so she thinks)

Thanks a lot man. It seems to be a pretty close set of votes between the two, poor Sicarius and his 2nd company... lol

I'm pretty much done collecting everything for my guard regardless (except a few tanks for normal IG Leafblower) the only problem is one of my eBay auctions I bougt has been cancelled, no contact with seller and I think it was fraudulent whic his weird cause it was just 25 Kasrkin and a Tauros assault vehicle, what a weird thing to scam lol
