Thanks, sad to say but this is just a problem that is going to get worse as long as my wife continues being how she is. It sucks, but since the summer, I've developed anxiety... because of my wife. Honestly, 40k is one of the only things that keeps my mind occupied. It's very sad, but true. Update 11/14:

So, after much debate I've decided that I will be doing my Astral Claws still and they will be getting a Thunderhawk... just not now. I spent their Thunderhawk budget.

While I don't have the models on hand yet I've pretty much built my Elysian Drop Troop List (Using no Elysians, I dislike them kinda). This is what I've managed to purchase thus far and my rough plan for the army: (I got all the Valkyries very cheap, thanks to all who helped me with this)

6 NIB Valkyries
2 Bitz Valkyries (The bitz to make the valks, no extras, won some cheap auctions for bitz)
1 Vendetta (Built)
2 Vultures (New from Forge World)
3 Vendetta Kits (Forge World)

I also ordered a bunch of hostile environment Cadians, I've ordered quite a few independently sculpted minis for squads and characters from companies like Studio McVey as well as Urban Mammoth and Raging Heroes etc..

The 2500 Point Army List is looking something like:

Command Squad with Valkyrie

Infantry Platoon
Command Squad
2xInfantry Squad
(They Ride in the Vendettas)

4 Vet Squads riding in Valkyries

3 Vendettas (Each occupying a single FO Slot)

2 Vulture Gunships (Twin-Linked Punisher Cannons, each occupying a Force Org Slot)



Yes, there is an extra Vendetta but I haven't decided how I would expend the force to 3000 points as a pure air list. Probably the vendetta, a special weapons squad in the initial platoon and a deep striking platoon with some Special Weapon Squads and a scanner unit or maybe another HQ. Anyways.. not a big deal right now, as I've aquired everything I need to do the army at 2500 points.

Thanks to my bud Elspedo and an army trade we did (That's where the assembled Vendetta is from) I also have 3 chimeras and 2 leman russ available to me in my force if I want to use a normal IG list.

I'll post pictures as I get the items and begin work.

Later on tonight? Check back for a quick guide on stripping (Not with a pole) as I strip some grey knights to sell to my friend.

I was thinking of a squad of Tanith, but only if I can find the girl Tanith model in the squad and I cannot find a single squad for sale with her. No clue what is up with that....

As for background, currently I was thinking of them being an Elite Terran Regiment with the very best in equipment available to them (Hence the Hostile environment gear, valks/vendettas/vultures). Maybe write some background that has the regiment itself being in service since the days of the Heresy etc.. not sure yet but I thought they would make a cool combined force with any of my marines in drop pods.. lol

So yeah, I'll be avoiding the Elysian background, too bad they aren't drugged up like they were in IA4...

Yeah mate, when I get the Thunderhawk I will be painting all the insides and using LEDs. I considered it heavilly vs this other army and I decided that it would best be a project to complete after I've tried out the techniques and things I'd like to use on it first. Thunderhawks are one of the coolest looking 40k models, but right now, most of my buds have nothing that could present much of a threat so it's only a modelling project, whereas guard I could play with.

I plan to do running lights on all my gunships for my Guard which will be a good way of finding the best methods to do it with my Thunderhawk (Which I can do some more impressive lightning things with likely).

It might seem insane to blow all of this cash, but I do a healthy ammount of trading/selling to offsetthe costs of many things and pick up things to sell.

I cant wait to see this!

To be honest, I realized, it was Forge World themselves who killed the Astral Claws for me at present. Weeks waiting for pieces missing from my original shipment, a hassle for replacement parts, things missing out of the bags, broken bitz... just made my excitement and fervor die down as I began to consider other projects. I still like their story and appearance (And the work I did) but I just think all those gunships would look positively awesome.

There is just a mixture of non GW stuff that probably accounts for 1/3 of the army, the bulk of the troops are hostile environment Cadians with elysian weapons because they look so damn cool.

I'm mostly done collecting though, just waiting for stuff to arrive. I thought about getting two (1 for a commie and 1 for another go at making Adrastia from DOW:II Retribution) but i didnt have enough cash. The raging heros kapitan is pretty cool but i wasnt sure on the scale.

I hate when people waste my time with trades. Whether it's backing out, wanting to change the terms or flat out offering me next to nothing.

$5 for Sevrin Loth?
$10 for terminator squad?

Like seriously, what do people smoke...

Also, I feel unless there's some big reason not to (One person is brand new here, never posted) that there is no reason for equal value trades not to ship out at the same time. Tracked/Signed For/Insured. What is the problem. I do not know.

Personally, I feel dakka is lacking in so many departments when it comes to trading it isnt even funny. There system is flawed, their admin isnt (and cant) doing much. Frankly its made me skeptical of trading on here.

Clearly, you can see see that ive had good trades, and if you click on the trade count (2) sign there it'll tell you in details whom bought, when, and what. It even allows you to leave feedback! That is a great system to use for trading. It holds people accountable.

Now as for shipping, i'll ALWAYS take the benefit of the doubt and ship first. I have NO intention of being called a lier, a scammer, or a con artist. So i'll ship first but only if the person has a similar commitment to the site (IE: not someone whom just joined and posted 1 post). It has to be fair. both parties should ship at the same time with tracking if possible. however, some people are suspious and ive run a foul some. If your offering forgeworld stuff, that is even a bigger indication that you have something that your not gonna wanna get screwed on in a trade. (cause FW is big $) I'd be pissed but it is the internet. Sometimes the best we can do is hope that things work out and if they dont, try to resolve them.

What i do:

2) acknowlegde i got the package and that the other party got the package.
3) ONLY then do i spend the $ they sent me or open the package they sent me

I want all partys to be happy with the trade. if not, it only leads to bad blood.

Yeah brother, that's exactly the thing, if it wasn't Forge World brand new kits worth $100 I wouldn't worry too much because the other person in this case, doesn't have negative feedback. The thing is, as you noted, if possible, both people should always ship out if possible unless there is a really good reason not to. To me, if I offer to ship out same time; it is me saying, hey, I trust you and you should trust me to, we're both gamers trying to swap some stuff for other stuff we want.

When I make that offer and the person then changes their mind later and decides if I don't ship first, no deal, it leaves a VERY sour taste in my mouth.

It essentially, feels as if, despite my goodwill and trust I've extended towards the other individual; they're either:

A) Implying I'm dishonest by wanting me to ship out first.
B) Along with A, it's insulting to me, when I've offered fair trade terms from the get-go.
C) It makes me feel like there is an ulterior motive.

I'm not saying this is always the case, btu man, do backouts and people who treat me like I Want to con their toy manz annoy me. Seriously... I have $$$ I don't want to steal your plastic manz lol

Trading isn't the best on Dakka, but the flow of visitors really helps. Barter Town is also very good.

As for what to do next: do what you REALLY want to do next, none of them have to be finished tomorrow.

Btown is pretty good but I prefer Dakka because it's a community.

People know each other from more than just trading. Generally, up until recently I never looked at the overwhelmingly long topic called reputable traders on dakka; I just look at someones reg date, post count and if they are a regular on the site who comes here often; they are a part of the community.

I'm generally more suspicious of people who don't belong to the community and just come on a site to trade (For example Btown, it's only trading) as there are less reprecussions to causing problems. On Dakka, someone I find is less likely to scam someone because it would alienate them from the site and the community. People who do not belong or post, won't feel the same way and don't care for the most part (not always), just most scammers I see are a new member who has only posted on the trading forums trying to get people to do army swaps, then someone is mad they got scammed when it should have been obvious. xD

As for the army to work on!

I would just like to get an army finished instead of working on 2-3 at a time and never completing a project. I figured the one more people would be interested in, would help motivate me to work on it.

Well, I think that it all will boil down to what you like the most, that is always what happens!

Lol, as most of my gaming buddies know I like too much and get really into collecting an army.

I started guard once earlier in the year (Did a wicked set of trades RL for it) and then because I disliked the models I had gotten, I ended up trading them off for new stormravens.

My Grey Knights I started by sheer fluke, I was replying to classifieds ads in kijiji (ebay classifieds in canada) and some guy had this huge GK army deal when they first came out and I offered him some insanely low price and he said "Will you give me $20 more?" and I said sure.. (This was 5am) and he agreed. Later told me he was drunk and hadn't slept yet, this guy became a good friend and sold me Warhammer for cost from his store until he recently closed it until he re-opens. I did offer to pay him more for the GK when I realized he was losing cash, but as he said "Nope, a deal is a deal."

Out of any army, I think I focussed on those the most and painted them very quickly for an Apocalypse Tournament and have since sold both halves of the army...

I also scored a great deal on Dark Eldar after the new release (But it was about 5000 points of old models) and after completely wtfkilling people with them, I decided if I play DE I'd prefer the new models. Sold them for 4x what I paid by a fluke (I had them listed for sale for 2 months online and changed the price in an ad one night for a joke when I relisted, 30 minutes later.. this guy had to have them, even paid me gas to deliver.. xD).

I also had a Space Wolf army all NiB from 3xBattleforces that I had traded a local guy for, I traded him bitz... bitz to convert his thousand sons into GKs... I am not kidding. It was like 50 storm bolters and a PAGK box set worth of force weapons for 3 Space Wolf battleforces. I don't know why he didn't just go buy a few PAGK box sets. I really do not....

Also, while it's not an army I am working on presently, I do have about 5000 points of Black Templars in a pair of large army cases that are what I do tend to play with. Most of them have been unfinished sadly but in 4th edition, they were the only army I played and with FW Drop Pods.

My other force, is also, marines again and consists of a Deathwatch Strike Team of about 50 Deathwatch Marines and it used to be what I played in most 5th edition tournaments with Codex: Space Marines.

Irony of the above? I had been out of 40k for a few years until this January and in December, I sold all of my Forge World drop pods cheap and then from getting my 40k stuff together to sell, I once more got back into the hobby.

My other armies since 2nd edition: Space Wolves (first army), Dark Angels Ravenwing (sold them in 3rd edition, I now have another Ravenwing army here I'd like to sell as cool as they are).


As for what I like, even now as I've finished collecting the miniatures for this Imperial Guard army, I've been thinking about Dark Eldar still, contemplating those Ravenwing, thinking of woring on my Black Templars.. just maybe and also wondering if I should do my Astral claws or Battle Company. I'm just fickle like that, I like way too much.

Also as of this weekend, I 100% have all the miniatures/vehicles purchased and traded for my Imperial Guard.

Wow, thats alot! I understand the spur of the moment buying, I bought around 150 dollars of FW chaos upgrades, but then forgot that I needed minis to upgrade So I bought a battleforce, and now am on my way to 2000+ points!
