I shot him with fire breath and then just got my war axe stuck in it's face.

First time I lured him to the shrine where that woman is praying and let her tank him whilst I filled his face with arrows.
Second time I planted a rune in his path, rune exploded, let Lydia tank him whilst I soul tapped him and filled his face with dual cast firebolts.
Third time I plan to simply run at him, bound sword in one hand, shield in the other, frothing at the mouth, and shield bash/power attack him into submission.

I also held true to my promise of running at the troll and shield bashing/power attacking its face in, although I couldn't find a hotkey to activate mouth frothing =\

Rocking the red guard melee myself, heavy armour, flame magic in left hand, elven mace with absorb stamina in the other. Occasional fist fights with skeletons for the fun 
That trip up to High Hrothgar was such a pita! I hate climbing mountains, then I found that troll at the top  . I lost out to it first time, climbed up again for the second, forgot to save post climb, let Lydia pwn the troll up close while I filled it with fire, killed it, then my console died! had to do it all again, only this time Lydia died! Gutted, she carried all the high value heavy stuff about for me, grrrr.
