So since it's coming this week, I was wondering what kind of character everyone was considering starting with? I'll add poll for basic classes, just post what race etc. your thinking of.

I'm probably going for Nord pure melee, Viking time baby!

Combat mage. Whilst I love magic, I also like hitting people in the face.

Stealth specialist, myself. I have fond memories of playing through the Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood quest chains in Oblivion - really hoping Skyrim'll live up to them with some more sneaky fun.

Stealthy. I've always really liked the stealthy side of things in Elder Scrolls. I'll probably try out a tank afterwards.

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

I always say I'm going pure magic or pure combat , but ill end up being a battle mage who likes to steal in the end.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Stealthy marksman is my second choice... Really enjoyable that was.

This is the hardest part of all RPG games IMO, picking what the hell your gonna play.

Combat mage. I plan on playing most of my first playthrough with a spell or wand/staff in one hand and a shield in the other, with a focus on heavy armor as well. I might make him use fire only, as I assume ice will be the most common enemy element in Skyrim.

I wonder if you'll get a sneak attack bonus with Magic? If so, I might dive into stealth a little bit as well, as there are a lot of types of magicks that will help me out there.

I bought the Guide for this reason alone: Preset Characters.

Hopefully they'll have them in this guide too, that way I can do like I did in F:NV and ES4: Roll some dice and pick from the list!

A stealthy type with magic, or a magic type with stealth. Probably.

I'm actually a little disappointed about that. Previous Elder Scrolls had a system I enjoyed while I don't really find anything interesting about the Fallout system. The old one just need some refining so that skill progression and attribute advancement wasn't so troublesome.

It's not like fallout either.

It's still the level up by using stuff. The only you get to place stats in yourself = Max Magicka, Max Health stuff like that.

They got rid of all the arbitrary things.

Ho ho. Sweet. That sounds much better. I'd heard they were adopting the Fallout level system which made me a sad hat.

No, the vids clearly show him leveling up one handed swords by wailing on someone. And I've read plenty of articles and interviews
Perks are in though Which is a good thing IMO.

True, but they still might have something like "Wanna be an X? then you should use Y and Z skills over N and M skills"

Well, theres the guardian stones. They will increase the speed at which you level certain skills, and thus making sure you don't get a jack of all trades everytime with nothing special going on.

I feel kinda sad. For a game I've been looking forward to (to the point that I requested this Friday off) I really don't know too much about it.

But that'll be solved come this friday.

Same here. That is always my first build, I just LOVE it. After that, Ill be a melee Orc, and since Orks look so damn beautiful in this game, Ill enjoy it that much more. THEN Ill get to the magic stuff. This sucks though, I promised to wait till Xmas.......

WHOOO!

My nord looked like an ape in oblivion (I didn’t look at his profile until it was too late) but he hacked and slashed his way through every story quest and guild quest with no problems.

Magic was always too hit or miss for me, miss your huge nuke and then you have no mana left and nothing but a staff to defend yourself with.

Can't go wrong with the sword and board though.

I usually use Marksman. Not really all that sneaky with a sword. The bow ends up more for taking them out before I get there with the sword or if they run too fast for me to catch.

Race varies from Imperial, Breton, Dark Elf and Wood Elf.

Oblivion's level system was horribly designed imo, and Fallout's was ace.
