i have read here that for starters you could use an old car tire... pumped up it could stand in as a compressor to save you some costs...

one day you have to share , at least with me, your patterns for those vehicles^^

Nice! Congrats! And thank you for serving! If I had stayed in I would have had my 20 in July last year.
But if I had stayed in, I would not have met my wife and would not have had my beautiful daughters. At least that is how I keep from kicking myself every day!

Yes, probably, but it feels so good!

Incidentally I picked up a small resin casting kit from Hobbly Lobby today. Hope to have some promising results to show tomorrow.

The casting experiment didn't quite go as well as I had hoped it would. I was able to do a one sided mold fairly well but the attempts at glove molding and two piece molding didn't work. I have determined that I have the wrong kind of mold material for them. I have putty mold and will need to get liquid silicon mold to do anything other than one sided casting. But, here is what I was able to get good:

I belive that I will still have ample uses for this technique but am anxious to get my hands on some Mold Star 15.

And, I started the Toe Guards. The back three on each foot are glued on but the front one will be magnetized so that the detail can be easily painted and showed off. Here is where I am on them:

And, Mocked up as if the Magnets were in:

More tomorrow or Tuesday I hope. Bye for now!

well the green, eh?

the legs of your reaver looks very good... and the casting is also looking very good to me... what specific has not worked out the way you planned it? can´t seem to see the same thing...maybe if you wash it a bit with badab black it would be more showing...

Thanks, Vik, and I haven't even started the bulk of the lower leg detail yet.

I didn't even show the casting failures. The glove mold was too difficult to get open to remove the original (a combi-flamer) and it kept leaking too much to get a good casting. The two part mold, which I could not have done with the putty, wqas made outof plaster and that, apparantly has sulfer in it. The resin will not set right with a sulfer based mold and I didn't know that when I started.

I will eventually get the silicon based mold star stuff. The Adeptus Mechanicus Emblem I casted turned out very well, actually, you may just not be able to tell it from the photo.

fromm what i saw i thought it looked quite decent to me...

the rest sounds not so good to me... by the way... what is a glove mould? i guess i know that already yet the term is new to me...

and one of these molds had sulfur in it??? is that hazardous in a way?

A glove mold is where the entire original is encased in a solid piece of molding material and, when cured, the mold is cut away and the mold is pealed away in one piece.

The sulfer isn't really hazardous, unless you consider the fumes when the resin starts to bubble and foam and pour out of your mold. Hahaha, lol, that's funny.

But not really funny, just like a giggle kinda funny.

And only after it's done and you know it isn't going to explode. Yeah, then it's giggle kinda funny.

Nah there is a guy at my FLGS who is pushing 60. He says things like "Great Scott!" while playing so you are most certainly not to old for playing with models. Nice work on the toe guards for the titan btw, personally I think they need to be a tad bit taller but that's just my 2 cents

Look at it this way... by inquisitorial standards, your not even middle aged until at least 150 years old.

Thanks Haz, the tree took about three minutes to make. I immediatly saw a hundred ways to do it better but it's simplicity is it's charm i think.
