They cost only 20 points more, are AV 13 side, they can rely on their armour, they don't need to move to avoid cover saves, and they don't die if they are immobilized while moving flat out. Also they are pretty crummy transports since while transporting troops they are generally moving them towards the enemy which you don't want to do with a light, expensive vehicle with mid range vehicle weapons.
