I just spent a nice chunk of time going through your thread from page 1 and I'm so super glad I did! Incredible, awe-inspiring stuff! Made me want to go nuts painting now, but I really should go to bed.

Looks like a great start Les!

As an aside, in regard to your airbrush tutorial vids, I would love it if you could make one about basic usage and not so much mini specific - Things like how you change paint colors (clean brush or empty cup and fill with new color then spray until the new color comes out?) what you use specifically as thinner, your cleaning regime, how you hold the brush and how far etc etc.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh and tips and tricks like your silly putty masking etc. I am gathering info watching most of your vids, but a straight up 'start here if you want to learn to airbrush minis' basic vid would be amazing. Airbrushing seems to really be catching on right now, and you are one of the leaders in the field of miniature infantry specific stuff after all!

Woo, Circle from LBursley!!

Looks freaking sweet dude!

I agree with Tom, a "How to start with airbrushing" tutorial would be inherently useful for me and im sure many many others. Pretty please!

So, I came in expecting an update on one of your many space marine projects that you have going on, nothing relatively special compared to what amazing stuff you make seem standard. I scroll down, and then HOLY CRAP.

The skin on that werewolf is absolutely amazing. Jaw droppingly so.

Not only how do you do your masking but about how/why you use the artist inks in your airbrush. Different effect? No thinning? Gorgeous work. PP makes some outstanding models and your paintjob does it justice!

Angels of Absolution Terminator WIP:

Got him to 70% finished. Just need to highlight the dark gray stuff, clean up some areas (finish handle on thunder hammer) , thrown a decal on him, and he's done. This will be the standard my whole army will be done in. I love how my test rhino came out all weathered so the troops have to match and this guy fits the bill.

Too bad the competition image was of lower quality :(

Are you using a crackle medium for the armour Les? Looks good, I saw it on Meph's marine a while back and was wondering how it would look for Salamander vehicles myself.

Nice work Les, though for my personal tastes I think you went way overboard with the weathering for the terminator.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

No joke really. I prefer my guys to look battle worn rather than prissy, "ewww, I got dirt on my armor", marines. Just more my style.

That's fine like I said nice work all around. I enjoy weathering but prefer a happy balance. For me I always think back too when I was a grunt shlepping a mortar around. Yes we were dirty but not overburdened. Like I said not my personal taste but I can still appriciate the work.

It fits perfectly, after all these aren't combat fatigues they're 10,000 year old relics that happen to pack a mighty big punch. I wondered if you were using a crackle medium to achieve some of the effects?

Thanks! Yeah I used the Vallejo Crackle Medium. I had the bottle for a bit and never thought I would use it till now.

I'll have a video for battle damage but no ETA as of now. I plan on doing a video on how to make a weathered army look but THAT video will be for sale on my site. It falls in the ADVANCED field and less into the normal army painting that my free youtube videos show.

Mafty wrote:what are you using to give the rust effect on the legs?

I used oil paint. Just a couple dabs into the chips and used a large flat brush and some alcohol to make it streak downward.
