If the martians were any smaller, they would be unusable as models, especially with the clear plastic dome.

Of course, to make those martians 'true scale' the humans would need to be an odd 45mm scale human and would defeat the integration with other uses as no one has a 1.5" scale.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to not expect perfect scale in a board game. It is fine that the martians are more human-sized. Doesn't hurt the suspending disbelief IMHO. (besides, after the Zeee from dreadball, I think they are better off not trying ultra small models, too small is too small)

Hmmm Of course the arguments about the size of the martian models is just wrong.

The assumption is that they are based on the movie, when in fact they are based around the original concept in 1962 and more correctly the IDW comics and the new Invasion series of cards - see above

So Scarletsquig is right they are in proportion and no the humans do do not 40mm models.

The proof will be in the pudding when the actual figures our in our hands but the renders look good.

The KS delivered in the end and I am not alone in looking forward to next August

I would have been happier with the runt sized Martians from the movie because they are funnier, but even the sculpting on the larger versions did not capture the style from the cards very well. Look at the Martian on this card and compare to the Mantic sculpts.
Ribbing on the arms and legs is much less detailed: four ribs on the Mantic thigh vs 14 on the card thigh.
Mantic guys got boots instead of ribs on calves.
Biggest problem is the head to body proportions. On the card the head is very nearly the size of the Martian's torso and nearly as wide as his shoulders. The Mantic heads are much shorter and narrower, coming much closer to human proportions than they should be, making them less creepy. This was the main reason I did not pledge for the KS.

Considering scale and overall design vary greatly even between the cards themselves, I don't think that's really all that much of an issue. And with the scale, the original creators themselves have said that they were inconsistent with the scale of the Martians and never actually could agree on just how big they were supposed to be.

I just wish they had more updated/modern designs for the Martians like the stealth corps guys. I probably would have been more interested in them if they had done that. Or, keep the humans in the retro '50s/60s styling rather than have modern looking humans and retro looking Martians. But that's just me. Overall, this KS has been a great expansion for my Deadzone sets.

I admit that the card game was before my time and unknown to me.
Checked it, Martians have no consistent size, but usually are smaller than average women:

Yeah, as already mentioned a few posts above... its based off the modern IDW comic books and topps cards, not the old ones.

Here's the comic previews for reference that the board game is based around: http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview_srch&by=title&for=Mars%20Attacks

But then you probably already knew that, just like you knew that $100k of Loka funding wouldn't have gotten the Deadzone stuff made.

The campaign succeeded in at least one other aspect too.
I really want to re-watch the movie now. I remember liking it as a kid - and am looking forward to seeing if it holds up.

Now that the survey is out, does anyone have a list of what the time limited and 'pledge this much' bonuses all were?

That info always seems to get lost at the end of Mantic campaigns.

Going through the updates I got following bonuses not listed on main graphic:

$75 and up Front Line
Alt General Tor (action pose instead of posing pose) - if pledged by Oct. 27

$100 and up Will of Man
Tiger Corps x5 minis w/Corus' Bounty Hunters x 5 - if pledged by Nov. 3
Alt Supreme Regent Ambassador
Agent Falco hero
1 Master of Science translucent green mini KS exclusive (color)
The Surgeon (science guy) w/ Wrex monster
Craig & Tunga heroes (zoo guy & ape)

$150 Invaders Arrive and up
Martian Zombie mini

$200 pledge and up
Hardback Rules KS exclusive

$300 and up
Martian Banner Bearer

There's also the following, to my knowledge:

- BOTB or Alien Abduction (or a higher tier, but NOT lower tiers pledging $300 or more - I actually emailed Mantic about this) gets a free extra robot, but this is included in the graphic.

- Limited-edition Regent with all initial pledges of $350 or more, not counting additional Paypal money.

- Limited-edition Banner-Bearer Diorama with all initial pledges of $500 or more, not counting additional Paypal money.

Needless to say, this was all a tad confusing!

I have a fairly good idea of what I should be getting because I actually had an Excel spreadsheet that I updated every time new information came out. That was only for my pledge level (BotB+$50) so it's not super useful for anyone else, though.

Took me a good 8 hours or so over a few days to work out all the possible combinations I could spend my $600 pledge to work out the best combination for the most Martians. They really need to do a shopping basket style system to make this easier as the Google Docs survey doesn't cut it for big pledges and complex options.

Yeah, the survey is pretty abysmal compared to software like CMON's pledge manager.

Par for the course, Bob.

I'm trying to work out what to do with my $325 worth of pledge credit. I'm not a fan of Mars Attacks. It just never appealed to me - though I don't hate it or anything - I pretty much just "nothing" it. So on the basis of that, I went in for the $300 Comic-Con deal that comes with the game, and $300 worth of extras, with an intention of using it for terrain if they added in the DeadZone stuff - which they said a couple of times that they would/could not do. I sent them a message in the last days, saying that while it was shame I'd have to drop my pledge, they should contact CMON for a Zombicide crossover, and good luck, etc. Ronnie replied to me, telling me that I could use my pledge for DZ scenery, and in the next days it was added "officially" and the CMON crossover message came out.

Anyway, I stayed in on the basis of DZ scenery, but was then tempted by the $300 one-click bundle, since there's a gakload of stuff in it, and while the MA IP doesn't excite me, I'm happy to buy/have another fun game.

So now I'm unsure of what to do.

1) $325 worth of scenery.
2) $300 1-click bundle by itself + $25 worth of scenery (unlikely)
3) $300 1-click bundle, + $25 worth of scenery and add on hundreds of dollars worth of scenery.

hmm...

I'm looking at cannibalizing my pledge for non ma stuff as well... I don't necessarily need duplicates of any ma stuff except maybe e trucks. Looking at the sweet deal on zombies mostly. Trying to decide if I want 4 deluxe mats or just one and sub in my dz mats for large games...

Gonna have to agonize over the survey for a couple of hours to see what's what.

I guess for you azazelx... decide if you want base MA or if you want the total package... and then if you can/want to afford the ~$300 of scenery on top of that

I'm thinking 300 1 click, Deadzone decks, and a few extra sets of giant bugs.

Giant bugs work with just about any type of gaming system.

Plus scenery.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Those giant bugs are pretty awesome. I may lean towards picking up some versatile cross-system things like those instead of going crazy on martians or humans specifically. Maybe some extra survivors etc.

On reflection, my increasing dissatisfaction with Mantic, mould-line restic and the lack of add-on-pledge levels in the DZ survey mean I think I'll go for scenery. I might take a risk on a couple of large bugs or whatever, but generally, I feel better/safer about spending money on more GW stuff than on Mantic's models. I just got several boxes of Vanguard and Sternguard, which just leave my Mantic stuff for dead...

And Alph - jokes aside - my whole raison d'etre for going in on MA was the potential promise of scenery, and the only reason I stayed in was that Ronnie personally assured me I could get a mix of DZ and MA scenery. So worst case is I never buy into DeadZone as a game and get a "free" Mars Attacks Basic box, whatever freebies I'm entitled to for spending $300, and a bunch of scenery for 40k, Necromunda and Bolt Action, etc.

Agreed that the whole thing became incredibly confusing. So is this stuff given out as freebies based solely on cash spent, or has it been rolled into things like the $300 1-click bundle/dependant on "buying" other items with the credit amounts? If I just buy scenery do I still qualify for them?

EDIT: Nevermind. Long story short: the scenery isn't restic, but the minis might turn out to be close enough.
