The approach is always the same "base, shade, layer, layer, drybrush and sometimes a final glaze" It's not a master class, or a complete painting class, it's a very well done lesson in the most basic painting skills.

That is almost exactly what I need. My technique is patchy at best, and learned from articles in old WDs, or techniques gleaned from wise Dakkaites.. So I'm certain to learn something, even if it isn't color theory.

It'll be on my list to buy later... lower priority, but still.

Hehe, true enough. Didn't sculpt at all, the usual "ok just 99.000$ more and I can buy another premium pack..." problem.

No worries, Neil. Reading? Pictures! The galaxy is safe though, I'm just playing multiplayer, trying to unlock some weapons I haven't got yet. Got the Graal Spike Gun today and it kicks ass, easily the best/only worthwhile shotgun.

LOL... I try to do my bit of sculpting before I turn on my console. Once it's on, I don't get up til it's time for bed...

Question- not meaning to pry, but will we be seeing more of the initial necro-coversions coming back anytime soon? Your miner gang and super-Delaques were a great entry into this forum..

And off-topic: haven't gotten the Graal yet, but I do have a beginner Disciple. I enjoy using it for my vanguard, moreso than any of the other human-type shotguns (katana, eviscerator, claymore...)

Definitely, Remi! Even though my current projects are all inquisitorial there will be more actual necromunda stuff sooner or later.

The graal is more like a sniper rifle, especially with level V choke and precision upgrades. I generally prefer SMGs on my vanguard, the lighter the better, as you fly around most of the time anyway.

Home alone tonight, so I thought I'd finally start sculpting the core of Hope's augmentations. It all went well and I think things are finally beginning to come together. I'd really like to show you a preview, but I'll wait a little longer, soon enough Hope will be ready be shown.
I've decided to do another little teaser though. Here you can see Hope's new head, that consists of one of the head options from heresy and the face of a tyranid warrior for the mouth.

On this base I have started sculpting some armor and augmentations, but for pics of those, you'll have to wait.

Also made some pics of my paint supply drop a couple of days ago:
25 new GW paints and 16 Model Air Metallics

Changing my order to have all the washes and metallics in one place (apart from the 30 secret weapon washes in dripper bottles). I've counted more than 60 washes and inks.

And my new order, had to ban some really old GW (backup) paints from my racks, to make room for everything.

I would actually consider giving you a side view, but I think I've deleted the pic, after deciding not to post it.

The desk is only that tidy when I don't use it, I needed the room to think up a new arrangement, one that made sense. Maybe I should take a pic of the desk now that it's in use. Currently there is all my painting and sculpting stuff scattered over the table together with some books for inspiration and the packaging of some Cambozola blue cheese, that I'll use (the packaging not the blue cheese) to protect my painting projects from dust.

Yes, lets see the picture now It cant be as bad as mine I am not sure if there is even a desk under it anymore

Good excuse about the picture shot and blue cheese I was wondering where you were going with that

As demanded LDD, (slightly) messy desk shot and side view (which looks strange, but mind you it's just the foundation).
If you have a very close look at the desk shot, you can see Hope in its current beauty!

Thanks for the update pics even more than I expected however thats not a mess, I will have to take a pic of mine that still stands as tidy and workable mine you cant get near

The dog head I know understand and looks amazing, never considered using the mouth from tyranid warrior with the head great look.

The large red arrow is looking great, the colour is spot on and the straight edges is your greatest work to date. Yes I zoomed in as well …………. Dam you

Although the other base looks interesting maybe for a tau drone by chance I gather this as the transparent rod sticking out of the top the column.

Baiyuan wrote:First off the promised pictures of the Remora drone from before I started painting. The base features a small imperial hideout, where a sole survivor made camp in the lee of a pillar. There is the half buried tire he used as chair and the compack to send his distress calls, his empty water canteen and his bedroll. What happened to him we don't know, but since he left his las gun and equipment, it must have caught him by surprise. :

Must have got lost somewhere between those 4 pages of mindless rambling, but I posted the base and the drone I made it for before.

Thanks for the compliments on both. The part that I really like about the tyranid head is how the eye slits of the warrior became the nostrils of Hope.
The parts I don't like in those early pictures, are the thickness of the neck, the overall balance of the physique and that the mouth is thinning towards the front, which makes it look beak-like. Of course I took care of all those problems later on.

Yes now you mention it looks great and the base is coming slowly LOL

I think you should build a small base with the guard taking a dump behind a bush and looking up into the sky with a unnerved expression.

This way when people asked what happened to the guard, you just pull out that one. after all nature calls to us all.

That is a really beautiful model , and the base compliments it very well mate .

I see where you heading with the devil pooch.. the mouth is cool.

Not too sold on the model over all though . looks a bit wide and cartoony . compared to Samiranne ( forgot how to spell that ;-) )

having said that in Baiyuan we trust ...

Thanks Neil. You're right, wide and cartoony is what I meant when I said unbalanced. Already knowing how it will generally look in the end (I only need to do the sculpting on the armor and innumerate details), I can assure you it's still freaky, but hard to recognize as the same base model. The sum of the augmentations really altered the look of it.
As to how fitting Hope will be for Samarianne (you got it almost right), I've been asking myself the same thing and decided there will hardly be many linking elements. After all Samarianne is a former Sister of Silence and currently an inquisitorial agent, with the usual gothic vibe, while Hope is a mechanically and biochemically enhanced xenos nightmare created by the admech for the inquisition and will have a stronger scifi vibe.
Taking that into account they need to be very distinct miniatures, that are linked by some subtle clues, like purity seals with some =I= symbols thrown in.

Ah, ok! Not that I would complain about compliments, it just sounded/read like you hadn't noticed it before.

Progress on Hope is difficult and slow, but I've laid the groundwork for Hope's additional teeth. I hope it'll peel off nicely and that I can work it with knives and files.

  • Gee, it's been a while! A combination of different things kept me from updating my thread as regularly as usual. Ok, admittedly it was mainly the multiplayer mode of ME3 and the frustration that I couldn't get Hope's teeth right.

  • Regarding both topics, I've moved on. I haven't been playing any games for a couple of days and I just decided that my latest attempt at the teeth is "good enough". Maybe I'll get back to it, but for now I'll force myself to make further progress possible.

  • I hope tomorrow will leave me enough time to get into my workshop and actually do some real converting (it's been a week or two).

  • I'm sorry to come empty-handed, but I'll make sure there will be pictures soon enough.
