Thanks, it's a really solid kit. A lot of the more Imperial bling is optional, so some banners and banner toppers should work to Brettonian-ize it.
You get the 2 big buildings, a corridor to join them and a little outhouse PLUS walls and fences. It should fill most of a 4'x4' area.

I figure this guy needs some explanation.
Stanley Guinius is universally hailed as the Emperor's 4th greatest son, one of his Primary Generals who played a key role in the founding of the Red Hawks Space Marine Legion.
He is best remembered for how he almost kept the Hordes of Horus from entering the Imperial Palace and later almost defeated the Daemon Horus during the Horus Donnybrook.
Each year during the Feast of Stanley Imperial Officials gather and recite the great deeds they almost succeeded at during the year.
Just a fun excuse to finally use up some models from an old Bones Kick Starter.

"Farewell to Empire" should I rename this blog once The Empire goes back in production next month?
It's now been running long enough, almost 10 years, to see Fantasy disappear and then come back.
Anyway...
This weekend's project is the Tower of the Astropath using a Gondor Tower.
Blah, blah, blah, essential to interstellar communications and a common sight in Imperial cities. The Astropathic Choirs prefer isolated towers where they can commune relatively distanced from the clamor of millions in the city below.
It's a cunning kit repeating a single sprue 3 times to make the tower and with ruined and intact versions possible. It's a bit annoying that the intact version basically requires gluing the rubble together to build an intact version. It's not terrible, but gets annoying after 3 times.
You also do get some nice rubble piles to use elsewhere.
There's also this, my favorite bit of GW instructions ever.
Just use your 3 arms to push the 3 walls together while holding the floor in place with your psychic powers!
Guys... we can actually assemble the walls in 2 halves and assemble that way y'know. You don't have to write directions for Genestealer Magi.
The tower comes out to around 12" tall and 4.25" wide but doesn't feel unbalanced at all. The walls are nicely detailed stone, and kind of generic. It would fit just about any historical, fantasy, or sci-fi game where you need a stone tower. At the same time it's also a nice blank canvases for greebles.
Case in point.
The dome is removable but can only hold maybe 4 models on 25mm bases. Or y'know, one space marine.
Trying to decide if I want to put something on top of the dome to transmit the psychic whatevers, but I worry it would break off. Maybe a metal antenna? Still thinking.
Anyway, good if not great kit, $55 (!!) and lots of room for creativity. Half a nights work and it will fit any Empire, Chaos, Imperium, or WWII table you have in mind. Heck leave off the door and it might work for Epic too.

They really do benefit from a base - built two myself and a base lets you build on the character. Maybe that giant antenna and radar dish from the fronteris box set could work. I don't have my radar dish built yet so I can't compare sizes for you.

If you have any psykers around for conversions, you could attempt to do something similar to Dawn of War: Winter Assault, with the psyker inside some sort of cage that helps to channel psychic energy. The cage could then be made as sturdy as require to avoid any issues.
Since the top part can be removed you could then separate the building for easier transportation if required.

I'll have some more photos later, but for now here's a close up on the current state of the Astropath Tower
The colors came out pretty vibrant, I used artists acrylics rather than miniature paints for the big stuff and they're a bit glossier. Some washes will dull things down a bit, but not too much I hope.

That's enough arbites to staff a whole sector, much less a single city. Washes will dull down the tower somewhat. You could also do a single white/white adjacent drybrush over the whole thing (lightly at first) to tie the colors all together - that's how I do it with the disparate colors in the rock buildings I have (including on the gondor towers).
Amazing work. Would you say the army is 80% done? 90% done?

Is the Birthday Baneblade a thing? Or did I just make up that tradition?

So earlier I showed off two masterpieces of 37th Millennium Sculpture, the Emperor Triumphant and the Selenite Queen. Today I can add examples of the Emperor's Sons, his Primary Generals!
Sculpted by none other than Rhea Parr, the greatest sculptor of the 37th millennium according to the most reliable accounts of the legendary figures of the Horus Brouhaha, these statues continue to inspire Imperial Servants today.
Bobby Williams is best remembered for his role in the formation of the Blue Sea Space Marine Association and for how he quite nearly arrived in time to save the Emperor from the Daemon Horus. Each year Imperial Servants gather in his name to recall the times they were almost in time to accomplish something.
"The Twins" Johnny Lionson and Stanley Gwennius are credited with founding the Black Hawk and Red Hawk Space Marine Associations. Johnny is also remembered for how he quite seriously considered coming to aid the Emperor against the Daemon Horus but some stuff came up at home and he couldn't make it. His brother Stan is remembered for how he really tried to stop the Daemon Horus but was kind of wiped out and just wasn't up to it. Each year Imperial Servants gather in their name and reflect on how they really tried hard to accomplish something important but sometimes stuff just happens.
Greatest of the Emperor's sons "Robert Dune" is perhaps better known throughout the Imperium as Rob the Builder. He is remembered not only for his role in founding the Yellow Hands Space Marine Association but also for how he fortified the Imperial Palace during the Horus To-Do and it was Quite Nearly Good Enough to repel the forces of the Daemon Horus. Each year Imperial Servants gather in memory to remember the times their work was Quite Nearly Good Enough to get the job done. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and I should add my flying cars.
Reserved for citizens rater Alpha+ and above, the Zephyr-Pattern skimmer is the ultimate word in speed and luxury. Capable of skimming up to heights of 100' and speeds of over 250mph they are loved by young nobles and sons of wealthy merchants.
Unfortunately they are notoriously difficult to maintain and with more repulsor units going to the War Effort parts are hard to obtain.
Owners joke that you actually need two Zephyrs, one to fly and another to be in the shop.

Some scattershot updates.
Got my toy rickshaw trucks, a bit bigger than expected but they're work especially once greebled and painted.
Got what I thought was a good buy on the old 'At attention' Cadians they I think they're either recasts or castings late in the mold's life. Lots of flash and...
This poor dude is missing half of his gun.
Also started work on my 32 Empire Militia dudes. Back in the day I had tons of fun converting them to IG along with Catachan bits. This time I set a challenge of making them into IG using just the kit and plastic rod/card. So far so good.
They'll count as Catachans rules wise, with the fluff that they're undercover Arbites operatives, hence the civilian dress and Catachan scout rules.
