I vote for anything with a flag on it.

Actually something in your fortification section might be useful for your campaign against that inquisitor... with a flag on it.

Hey Gits, love the chaplain. The pool of skulls does it for me. How pointlessly awesome.

I think a command squad would be practical, but offer some cool opportunities. The Chapter Champion would be neat, standard bearer. I think you could do it solidly.

With a good set of distinctive bits an honor guard would be rad too.

The pink army always wins. You beat the pink army? Go ahead and brag about it. You lost to the pink army? Well, then....

Looks like the venerable contemptor wins walking away! I love me some dreads.

Thanks for participating everyone. The enthusiasm for the fancy squad and the fortification surprised me. I'll start the clean-up and build on the dread tomorrow.

Since I don't have anything new to post... I thought I'd entertain you with a few pretty pictures from last week's battle with Solar_lion.

Here's his cheesefest... I mean army list. Yellow is a very appropriate color I think (just sayin')

Here are my sacrificial lambs... First time I tried the 10th company formation... proved to be well worth it's points. Bloody flyer formation didn't show up until T4. As you can see it wasn't a weak list (nemesis formation, knight), but it wasn't much of a challenge for the Lamenters.

Here we are at the end of my turn 1. We played on a long 8' table just for giggles. I was deploying on the left, though because of the scouts/infiltrators and SL's very sparse deployment (3 razorbacks on the far end and a devastator squad in the building on the right, just behind my GK), I really had the run of the table. 4 units of shrouded sniper scouts deployed on 4 of 6 maelstrom objectives. Knight deployed back up against a building to protect itself from being shot it the back & nemesis formation dropped near scout bikes on right. Had hoped to place them in a secure enough place that gunning them down would be difficult. I was wrong. You can see my scouts in the foreground sitting on one of RiTides ModCube objective markers. We absolutely LOVED using them. Makes the whole mysterious objective thing completely brainless.

This was the aftermath of Solar's alpha-strike. Dreadknight, terminators, warlord and 4 of 5 scout bikes obliterated in one shooting phase.

One of the few really interesting elements of the game. A hotly contested objective #5 being battled over on top of a ruined skyway by my scouts & SL's assault squad. SL eventually took them down with the aid of his sergeant's power fist.

Disclaimer .. the pic of my army is not WYSIWYG. The Devs were all Grav Cannons and thus the reason for the hurt. The RB were all TLLC.

Skyhammer was a brutal formation . However the 2+ cover save for the scouts was equally amazing. I poured tons of shots into them and could not kill them. The only scout squad I did kill is with the assault squad

Will be using this formation against the dreaded wraithhost for sure!

And yes the Mod cubes were bloody fantastic. Easy to keep track of what each objective was!

Serious MODcube jealousy here can't wait to get my sets.

Both armies look fantastic. The lamenters really stand out with their yellowness.

Awesome pictures Gits, so cool to see two really well painted armies facing off!

Thanks for the awesome ModCube pic definitely will be using that! I actually still owe Gits his normal ModCubes, I promise I haven't forgotten you guys . There will be an update tomorrow or Wed showing the last of the set designs, and my packing/shipping reinforcements (AKA slave labor) also arrive on Wednesday. Once the "first to ship" tier is out I'll be making an update showing the cubes in use, as a few local folks got to try them out at the Nova Open, too

You'll get him next time, Gits! Maybe with the help of that shiny new Contemptor...

Gits, are you going to convert the Contemptor at all or more of a straight-up build? I don't think they need anything but just curious . Looking forward to watching it come together!

That thought had occurred to me as well. "Go Pack Go!" as the natives would say.

I'm having a really crappy week... karmic wheel rolling over me a bit I guess. Anyway, this will pass. Did make just the slightest bit of progress on my last two scout missile launchers. They're the last MW project to finish up before I begin the dread.

@RiTides: I'm not sure. I'm thinking it'll probably be a straight-up build, but I honestly won't know for certain until I start putting it together (that's kind how I roll when it comes to building).

Thanks War Kitten. They aren't very fancy, but I took a lot more time blending the armor than I usually would so I'm pretty satisfied. Now that this project is clear, I can start thinking seriously about the relic contemptor.

In the picture of your battlereport containing the assault Marines and your two scouts, does the top one happen to be Sgt Telion?

I really like the missile launcher pose. In fact I think the heavy bolter scout is one of the best marine sculpts floating around. But back on topic. I like the two final scouts. Hopefully they will do you some good and bring down an Inquisitor.

Yes. Now that I have my own chapter rules (thanks to FW), I can't run him officially any more... however I still use him if I need a bolt-gun armed sergeant. Here's the fully painted fig.

There is always hope. Yorkright and I hope to get our game in at some point. Now that I'm not able to attend our normal 40k club night with any regularity it's a bit difficult, but I think we'll get something worked out soon. It was nice to settle down and get some good painting done last night. I really felt like it for the first time in a long time & while the scouts aren't complicated... I think the neatness of the paintjobs and care in the blending speaks to my finally settling down and getting into a "painting mood" again. We've got our summer tournament series final event in a couple of weeks. Have to decide if I want to try and paint up something special for that (though it may be the contemptor). Going to be difficult though as we're hosting an exchange student from Japan for a week and I'm sure we'll be quite busy.

Thing 2's birthday is tomorrow, so there may be a late night build and paint of a tyranid of some sort tonight. Just so he's got something new to play with.
