I dont see how this looks better. Just my opinion though I think the white just makes your eyes strain more looking at details and the gold closest to the white. So I that's why I opt for the black.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Although white uses a little bit more energy to display on a CRT monitor, if anyone is still kicking one of those around... 99% is a freakish overestimate as well.

Your work is still looking good LB... getting better, in fact. Keep it up.

I'll try white for a while then see how everyone likes it hehe.

@Arctic-- I hope I'm getting better! I'm learning new stuff all the time. I just stand in the paint section at my local paint store reading all the Liquitex bottles, and ended up buying Flow Aid and a Matte Medium. Made blending easier, faster, and smoother not to mention using less paint.

I hope to completely Finish Huron tomorrow and start on my Daemon Prince. He has threatened me with bodily harm if I don't paint him soon lol.

Really nice start!
As a fellow gamer who has lost minis to a fire I really feel for ya man.
( Homeless people squatting in a neighboring storage unit with a kerosene heater spelled the demise of my Dark angels and Bretonians...along with thousands of dollars that was my apartment contents before the move...BTW-nobody was hurt...just my poor defenseless minis!)
The first painted unit box after that was pretty awesome feeling though! I felt reborn! A clean slate is pretty good sometimes.

Good luck, keep up the awesome painting and keep your chin up!

thanx highpriestrsw2! Yeah the clean slate was refreshing. I had minis that were painted over 11 years ago and I actually put up pictures of a couple, that family members had kept for me in the P&M section, and you can see the progress I made. I didn't paint after joining the navy in 2000 and when I got out in May 2008, and back into minis I did research and watched a bunch of Miniature Mentor videos before I painted my "new batch". Worked out pretty well.

Ok. I know I said I would finish Huron a couple nights ago but I went to a friends house, and this particular friend happens to be a great sculptor. So we did some modeling sessions since I have only sculpted little things (only masks shown in this P&M). I grabbed the SM vet sergeant from my Assault on Black Reach box and after sitting with him for 3 hours learning techniques on this mini this is what I have so far.

Mind you I've never done armor and I realize the legs are pretty big. We basically wanted him to look like a special character with some crazy big specialty armor.

C&C NEEDED and ENCOURAGED!

He needs a longer, bigger tabbard to help match the new size of his armour. I'd also give him a cape to match that, but that's just me.

Fafnir I totally agree with the heavy, long cloth to balance the proportions of the armor.. I suck at doing cloaks and other big pieces of cloth lol. If any know a sculpting tutorial for cloth please direct me there. The trouble I have is the cloak keeping its form but this model is all for practice so I'll have a go at it now.

Well, I don't know if I can help you too much, since I'm not that great with greenstuff, but I did model the cape for my GM, and I'm modelling a tabbard and some stuff for my other GM, so I'll see what I can do.

What I did was flatten and cut out the shape I wanted, tear off the ends to make it look torn, and then stick it in the proper place. I ended up covering up any bad spots with a nice fur pelt, although you could just do it the old fashioned way, and actually put some skill/effort into your work. I just planned on using pelts anyway, so the fit was natural. Anyway, I then used a needle to curve the cape a bit, and then positioned it the way I wanted, and then let gravity help out a bit.

Impressive sculpting for a first try at an involved piece, the graves are rather large but i think that adds to the charm of the model (even though i've never understood why the marine sergeant is like that has he got some stupid Battle Brother who needs to be constantly reminded the enemy are that way).

One thing that i find troubling with it is that Rosarius looking symbol on his loincloth looks really out of place on a Chaos model, its not a major criticism as overall the model looks awesome it just seems rather out of place.

Still look forward to seeing him painted.

thanx 99MDeery for the comments!

I put cloth on the front so it covered the symbol thing. Having trouble with the cloak movement and the cloth on the front needs to be reworked. Need horizontal folds at the top. The cloak was formed to have wind blowing it to the left of the model and every time I have it perfect gravity pulls it down.. GRR.. gonna have to build it little by little or use some wire. I dunno.

PICTURES:::
After some added stuff and another model I was messing with just to use up the rest of my GS ball. I wanted to give this guy character hehe and I'll be replacing his gun with a flamer. So the hair matches the theme.

LOL yeah his hair is all kinds of AWESOME! j/k Did a little bit more to the Vet SGT, changed out the chain sword for a scythe put a rough sculpted head in his extended hand (gonna paint in details, faces are hard to sculpt for novice sculptors ), and finished the cloak. The cloak worked out great with the rough form dry and then building up the folds with noodles of GS. Took a picture but it was too shiny but you'll see it when painted.

Letting the rest of the GS cure while I sleep and we can get primer on it tomorrow morning!

With the addition of that loin cloth he looks 50 kinds of awesome, nice touch with the scythe what did you use for the actual scythe head i'm interested to know what material you used if i may ask.

The blade itself is made of Super Sculpey. I make little 1 inch diameter coin size pieces and bake them for 15 mins. When cooled its like a ceramic and you can sand it. I drew my Weapon shape on it then used a rotary tool to shape it. I would have done the whole model with the pink stuff but after testing that ona another model 8 mins @ 275 F the mini will melt :( So I used GS for everything else.

K finished up watching a weathered Dred tutorial from Miniature Mentor. Friggin awesome tut. They use oil paints, MIG pigment powders, and airbrush. So I dusted off the old airbrush and grabbed the dred from my AOBR box. Used a sand color and a brown and I was amazed at the instant perfect blends an Airbrush does. Trying to do the same effect below with a regular brush would have taken forever. Ordering MIG powders this week to try them out. Saw a lot of good uses for it in my CSM army after watching the tutorial. Made more custom armor molds for the guys that will rally with the Vet SGT. Trying for epic style armor for each guy.. Individuals, like HQ models. Need some names though.

After 30 minutes of airbrushing. Starting the base and adding texture for BAD RUST (exfoliation, delamination) areas.
