Chosen #2 WIP... Yes I've decided to make these new custom guys Chosen. Being seasoned Vets and seeing as the troops see these guys as "favored" by the gods it will explain their huge ancient armor and the fleshy demonic growth underlying. What do you guys think?

And yes! this guy will get a loin cloth also. The tank above his backpack will feed fuel to his flamer. He's still very rough and has sanding dust on him

I like the superchunky and detailing, but not the top of the backpack...

Yeah after seeing it in pictures I dont like the placement of the tank.. think 2 smaller parallel tanks directly on the backpack? Or ditch the tank idea?

How about two smaller tanks, it's an original idea and it works well with the model.

Could you do something like this:

in order to keep a chunkier looking backpack without overbalancing it?

almost a V pattern with 2 canisters? I actually took the piece off the top put straps on it and moved it to the lower part of the pack. Kind of like a hiking pack. THEN I realize I didnt put a flamer on him.. Its a combi-melta and I confused the melta with a flamer :/ .. Gonna swap that out because I like the tank idea for the flamer.

Thanx TMT for taking the time to photoshop your idea for me. This is what I got so far. Gonna GS some small canisters when I wake up and show those on the model. Thanx for all the feedback guys! Mush appreciated

JW, is that the head from the chaos termy lord box?

Thanx! Yes the head is from the Term Lord box. When I was building the 2nd guy I was looking through bits and I remembered that the kit came with 4-5 different heads. And I also used the weapons from that box on him.

UPDATE: Well my ADD kicked in again and instead of basing and finishing the final touches on Chosen #1 I decided to re-paint my Defiler after testing the weathering technique on the Dred. Figured I'd do that while the GS cured on Chosen #2 As always I'll update with pix when I get to a stopping point on the Defiler.

Chosen #2 : Flamer attached and wire ran from tank to where canister was. Primed and airbrushed (since I had everything out for the Defiler). Was seeing how small I can detail on non-vehicles.

Defiler : Primed, painted chainmail, painted rust on, and actually airbrushed in the faded red areas. Next is chipping then blood.

Been working all day on the Defiler trying to get it battle worn and weathered. Liquid mask didn't work how I had planned but on the upside I discovered a new blood technique. This Defiler's theme is to look how I see them.. Not right out of the factory, but the old beat up warmachine that just wont stop. He's still not finished but what do you think about it so far?

Nice work with the airbrush and weathering. That new weathering/blood-caking technique looks very good... and very chaos... especially on the claw.

I really like where your defiler is headed. I think I read earlier that you were looking into picking up some mig pigments for weathering work. Are you using them with the blood painting technique to get the extra texture?

At any rate, keep up the good work. Glad to see you back to work on your chaos for at least a little while.

The texture you see in the picture is best explained in the prep work. Primed then painted with Rustoleum plastic texture paint. Gave the whole Defiler this stamped steel look.

RUST. That's what the pigment is for. But I still haven't received them yet. I pretty much got the same effect with the air brush but the pigment powders are just so much easier and make for really chunky rust which would be good in deep areas. I've been reading a lot about the guys who do realistic looking models (tanks, planes etc) and I'm wanting to head in that direction.. Less bright colors, more textures and correct details. It's fun looking at a model and thinking "how can I make this cloak look like canvas?" I'll be adding colored pencils to my tool box also and you will see why.

More to come.. stay tuned!

Just purchased some models for my chaos army.. Couldn't pass them up for display models. And I'm throwing the fluff out the window in trade for a crazy evil looking Chaos force.

Here's some of the stuff I ordered to convert.

will be Chaos Lord

will be Chosen Aspiring Champ

will be Chosen

will be Chaos Sorc

These will be on chains attached to this guy who will be my Daemon Prince

will be Daemon Prince

Love the demon prince in particular. Also the dogs look like they could easily stand in for flesh hounds.

The demon prince looks like and angrier, chunkier Robbie Williams from one of his video clips.

EASY RUST.

You will need:
Liquitex Natural Sand Resin (its acrylic don't worry )
GW Dark Flesh (its what I used here but you can go lighter or darker, whatever effect you are trying to achieve)

I was trying to find an alternative to pigment powders and I think I'll use this method. With powders you have to add fixers, apply another color, fixer.. etc.. Yes this saves you a couple of seconds but lets break it down.

Natural sand $10.51 for 237ml
MIG Standard Rust Pigment $7.99 for 20ml
MIG Pigment Fixer $13.99 for 75ml

Now MIG PIG's are on a more professional scale and the standard for WWII Army painters who go to competition. I do not compete and also find reproducing chunky rust difficult.

Some areas are still wet and appear brighter in the picture.

Lol @ TMT "Abandoned DRED" update! Devlan Mud Wash fixed the depth problems and darkened the rust to make it perfect!

Check it out!
(Yes you will see casting lines! As nice as this dred turned out for me, it is just test model so I didn't spend a lot of time with prep. Gonna sell it when finished.)

Now that looks cool, the wash did give it more depth. Definitly going to have to try this method on some vehicles. Can you get the liquitex stuff at a general craft store? Where did you get yours? Sorry if you mentioned this above if you did i must have missed it. Stuff looks awsome as always

High Quality Painting 2009 starts now for me! I am not happy with my models at this time and every time I start a new one I tell myself "this one will be better than the previous" and I've been disappointing myself.

So today I decided to try a different tactic. Pick a part of the body and work on that all day. So I did and wow! I think so anyway. The example is the WarBoss from my AoBR box started today.

All I worked on was his right arm at first, mainly the skin. Highlighted it up, shaded, glazed it when it got too bright or didn't blend well, re-highlight etc. until I got something interesting. Painted imagining the light source directly above ( thats where my light is so not too hard to imagine where the shadows go )

Then started the face.

If you go back a couple pages and see the WarBoss I did for commission you can tell a big difference.

Looks very nice! Lovely gradulation.

Maybe a red or purple glaze over the veins to show them up?

There's a blue under the veins but I just started the torso and left arm I plan on making this guys claw bloody also, but using the technique I used on the current Defiler. There's a lot to be done on this guy! And I'm thinking I'll make the lens covering his left eye an eyeball lol like that teacher in Harry Potter 2 or 3 I think.

I also have 4 other Grey Knights I want to test stuff on. I suck at NMM technique so I'll play with them a bit.

I know I'm delaying my chaos again but I figure if I can learn more in painting, my chaos will be that much better.

More updates tomorrow! G-nite dakka!
