No, it's the truth. I talked to a regional manager at the Seattle Battle bunker and he said the same thing about the new shirts. Apparently the studio doesn't like how far and wide the rumors are on sites like BoLS, etc (how wrong they are), so they had the shirts made.

However, that's a problem of their own making by choosing to keep their cards so close to their chest about unreleased product. Don't comment on things: people will speculate. Don't like it? Say something concrete. Or make a new shirt. Or whatever.

You'd better be talking about the Bolter-hole, the Flamer-hole and the Melta-hole, son. This is a family website!

How long before those shirts are available on GW mail-order for $30 USD? Make sure to snap up all the XXLs while you can.

If it is not something players/collectors/whatever group(s) feel is equal to Space Hulk (if it is not Space Hulk), there will be "raging" when the product is announced, even though GW itself has not directly claimed it will be Space Hulk in anyway.

H.B.M.C. wrote:And why must it be 'nerd rage'.
Sorry, I have not as yet heard a proper alternative term that accurately describes this phenomenon better than "nerd rage". If you have one, please share, we will try to not let it become a meme.

If it doesn't "measure" up I think that there won't be as much Raging but it will land with a 'thud' and then the sound of crickets chirping will take over.

Maybe.

Maybe if they get pissy enough about rumors they'll do something about it and actually tell us what's coming more than 1 month from now. Problem solved.

I can see this being true... Only GW would deal with the problem with some vague, meaningless platitude on a T-shirt instead of actually opening their chubby fething yaps and communicating with their fans about upcoming releases.

It is an all new game, it's RC40K, with little mini robot army men that you still build and paint, but instead of rolling dice they can just walk across your kitchen table and beat the styrene out of the other guy's models.

I doubt GW is going to send free product to independent retailers so...

What do the independent retailers have to pay to ge the box?

Trouble is, when we find out about stuff really early, we all want it there and then, and by the time it comes out, it's old hat as we are drooling over the next big thing due in three months time!

Tight Mouthed Larry can be a very good tactic.

Oh, and don't forget how often people hear rumours which are inaccurate, and judge the new model or book according to the wrong rumours, leading to disappointment and unfair rubbishing of a product!

The manager I talked to said that people who register with the GW website and elect to get the newsletter will find out about these kinds of things sooner than someone who doesnt. Which still means its going to be up on BoLS, but its going to be from the horses mouth rather than speculation.

He also mentioned that the newsletter is going to go weekly rather than monthly. I hope thats not their "mystery box" right there.

What will just kill me is if it was just something silly and whimsical I bet it was just being released for a laugh and it has now been blown so out of proportion that the people who are in the know are looking in the box and just going "oh, shoot".

I bet you that this is something they didn't realize would get this out of control and take a life on of its own.

My bet is still a space marine bobble head.

The day the news is released I think I we will all hear "oh" followed by a big sigh. The posts on Dakka that day will be amusing no doubt.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

I kind of agree. GW marketing tends to be ham-fisted at best. It may be something entirely uninteresting by the time it comes out, quite posibly something that is new for GW, but everyone else has been doing for years or something.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.
