you hate tau then. It doesn't matter. Everyone, both chaos, human and Xenos are destined to all die. I think somewhere in the eldar codex it talks about the time when everything is destroyed in one final battle. Also, I read this in lexicanum, if the emperor didn't kill horus then the chaos gods would become so obsessed with the human race that they invest all of their power into it. Eventually the Humans collapse and die and the chaos gods and daemons die with them. But since Horus was killed now all chaos survive and will eventually take over the entire universe. Now that I think back on thet Im sure it was the Cabal who said that. So why fight for the emperor when Chaos are going to win?

This "letter of marque" thing wouldn't work, we all know of the treacherous nature of the blue greys.
And your eldar masters may act against it too.
But its not a problem, since the C'tan will sooner or later take over your AI's and the Tau will cry for help.
Too bad, the mighty Imperium ignores the pledges of thieves and especially the xenos sort .......
@idget:
The emperor keeps us safe ( and all the xenos too as a side effect ) and since he'll be immortal those
warp creatures will suffer ( read my sig ).

Now, wanting us all to evolve and change? Into pyskers?!? THAT'S heresy.

Granted, the beaucracy of the modern Imperium is more or less a bastardization of what the Emperor strove for, but if you break everything down, the Emperor is, imo, the only truly "good" deity in the 40k universe.
Personally, I like to believe that the Emperor in the 40k universe is himself not a singular deity, but the physical manifestation of a greater power(to make parallels to Christianity, Christ ~> Emperor; Holy Spirit ~> Emperor's Light+conscience in general; Creator ~> ??).
And of course, it really depends on the author of the fictional work on how good and god-like the Emperor is.
I really do not see how you would, after all things done, consider the Emperor to be a 'good' diety. Striving for survival is a natural instinct, not a defining characteristic of good. Good is HOW you strive to survive. By this token, the Empire/Emperor wouldn't fit into the 'good' side of the picture.
I'd have to say, if any god is 'good', it'd be the Eldar god of the dead. His name is Ynead(spelling?) or something like that

I like to think that he has good intentions trying to protect humanity, but all in all he's just a genocidal extremist. He will never be able to reach humans' ultimate goal that is a utopian ideal. Why, because if he does the impossible and wipe out all of Chaos and xenos in the galaxy, the almighty Imperium that he built would be frigg'n' huge, therefore He cannot see everything meaning rebellion could happen easily. I'm not talking wars and gak, it could be as little as finding a god to worship besides the Emperor, and if He were to find out, war would break. if the Emperor were to preserve his utopian Imperium long enough, Chaos would just return. All it would take is the human nature we experience everyday like pain, pleasure, death etc. The Emperor's grand plan is a future of peace, in these times to maintain peace would be to be, well perfect, the human race is anything but perfect how do I know. Chaos is a frigg'n' byproduct of being human! To kill Chaos, yet alone live perfect lives is to be human no more. Is it worth it?
FFS for all we know The Emperor might just be using the Imperium so he can ascend to godhood, but we won't be letting that happen any time soon will we?

Ha, this is a trick question...
You can't fight for the Emperor, only for his teachings. Unfortunately, his teachings have been corrupted by the very empire he built. So, the only way to fight for the Emperor's teachings is to fight against the Empire.
Any true follower of the Emperor's teachings would assault Terra (or work towards that end) and free the Emperor from his captivity of suffering as a "living-dead" pseudo-god, who is kept "alive" only so that those that have corrupted his teachings, may stay in power.

Remember, the Emperor never wanted himself portrayed as a God. I compare him to a visionary conqueror, like Alexander the great. A man with dreams of a united universe/world (Alexander may have wanted it united under Greek Rule but meh, Greeks were pretty cool).

Ok. His vision seems not beeing received correctly.
No united universe. Just mankind's destiny to rule the stars undisputed.
Can't free the emperor. Cause he's no captive. It was his order to be placed there.
Nice take EF. Alexander died young too and his successors ruined his empire also....
And to the trick of this thread: OP thought there could be no reason to fight in his holy name, but there is
ONLY reasons to fight for him instead of futile resistance in the name of some warp spawn.
Lets see if both claim to represent the inquisition and try to hide the imperial truth i've revealed here...

There is one traitor chapter that fights against chaos and the imperium as they claim that the emperors teachings are actually corrupted and some of them are considering attacking terra. (soul drinkers I think). The Emperor is just sitting on the Golden Throne as more of a cpative than a ruler in my opinion

In a Campain that I once did a while back I was playing as a "renegade" guard army that beleived that the Inquisitors KNEW the secret to bring the Emperor back to his full potential but refuse to because they want to stay in power. Deemed Heritics the Inquisition put a price on my armies head, and I ,some how, took out the Ultramarine Chapter, Over half of the Armaggeddon Legion, Yarrick included, Absorbed the Tanith, and convenced the Sisters of Battle that we follow the Emperor's will, before the Ordos and the Blood Angles combined forces and wiped me out.

IMO, if fighting is a problem, the only place you can stay away from war is the Imperium. I just read Xenos by Dan Abnett, and in it Eisenhorn muses to himself that Xenos and Chaos are largely seen as myths by most Imperial citizens because most worlds don't experience war.
If I HAD to fight, I'd fight for the Emperor because that'd be the religious figure that protects my family, friends, state, country, planet, system, sub-sector...etc. and, when you get right down to it, he protects the whole of humanity. People fight for their country right? It's no surprise then that there are many people willing to fight for their RACE!
Ave Imperator! (Hope I said that right!)

Um, he is not. And anyway, he bitchslapped Horus and killed him while suffering from a mortal wound. I read that, had the 4 Gods stayed in Horus, the Emperor's psychic might would've obliterated them. Gotta love the Emperor, keep that Pimp-Hand strong bro!
In any case, the Emperor is, at the very least, in stable enough of a condition to keep the Demons at bay and the 4 chaos gods away.
