Good 'ol Cadians.

Though Space Russians are cool too.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Well, even though I'm (ATM) a hardcore cadian player I need to say the death corps. Awesome models.

Altough, if, in the far future, they start remodeling the valhallans and make them in plastics I would probably get as many of them as possible. But, as said, that it is if they get a total makeover. If todays models is given out in plastic then no. Just nu.

Does anyone get fed up with the awful BL books on the Imperial Guard, the Tanith 1st and only are reasonable. But there is never a competent highly trained and elite guard unit that actually uses tactics. Yes they are a meat shield at the Strategic Level, but at the tactical level there would be some highly proficient, veteran and grizzled units. Think of the Napoleons Old Guard, or some of the SS Units in WWII. I would like to see some better literature, anyone who has read "A bridge too Far" "The Longest Day" "It never snows in September" knows that elite infantry formations (like Fallshircmjaegers or Paratroopers) are extremely professional and tenacious even in the face of overwhelming odds and high casualty rates. I just find that the Imperial Guard is portrayed as "Meh", which is fair enough for PDF troops but not for all the Regiments in the Guard, some are average, some are exceptional (Catachans, Elysian's and Krieg).

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest!

In terms of gameplay and sort of 'ideals' I have always loved Valhallan's. However the Death Korps of Krieg models are just too freaking cool not to love. So for me it's a tie.

Death Korps are cool, but a bit pricey, as being an entire FW based army.

I agree, (though I would've mentioned the French Foriegn Legion, the Royal Marine Commandos and the LRDG long before the Waffen SS). The Kaskrin's get a pretty good write in by Dan Abnett in Hereticus and he gives the IG a fantastic flavour in his novel Legion in the HH series (to my mind, the best in the series thus far) I think that most of the BL authors are going through the motions and using a template and/or their 12 year old son/nephew to ghost write for them!!

gicks30 wrote:kasrkin are my favourite IG models so my vote gooes to Cadians

Yep, I'd go for Kaskrins and along with them, the 4th edition Stormtrooopers (the ones who look like a SWAT Team gone gonzo!

I love Elysians but can only afford Cadians so my Elysian STYLED Army will be mainly Cadians, suitably converted to look airborne-ish, with Sentinels, Valks and Vendettas )

Tanith first and only, but only because the books are awesome. If i were to actually use them, i'd convert catachan/cadian amalgamations, as the models are a bit old.

Valhallans because I started when you could only get metal guardsmen. So it was them Mordians, Tallarns, Awful Looking Cadians or Catachans.

I picked up some Valhallans and some Catachans, but hated the flesh they had so much of.

When the Steel Legion came out I picked up some of them, and I wish I'd got some praetorians when I had the chance.

I've always liked Valhallans. In fact, when I started 40K at the beginning of 3rd edition, I wanted to play a Valhallan army, but even back then all that pewter was too expensive (especially for a junior high school student). If they ever made plastic Valhallans, I'd have to fight pretty hard to resist temptation.

Always had a soft spot for the Steel Legion. Trenchcoat Guard always look amazing - on the tabletop, in artwork, in fluff, or just simply on a single model basis. And sure, the Death Korps have an awesomeness to them, but there's just something about the Steel Legion that really appeals to me. I'd give an arm and a leg for GW to produce a new plastic range for these guys, full of customisable options and the like.

I like the elysians and the death korps, but you cannot beat the Tallarn, i love the refelctions of modern desert fighting, plus i love fighting in the desert.

bring back different ranges for IG. or at least give options to give more personality to that players regiment. it would be awesome if they brought back steel legion.
