Its a shame you cant get plastics of any of the above. Also there are only 6 tanith models for sale which means lots of conversions needed.

I've always loved the Mordian Iron Guard. The crisp, clean uniforms and tough-as-nails attitude is like a Commissar's dream come true!

I voted for Elysians, but I wish I had 2 choices so I could put tanith as well. The only reason Elysians won for me is because they have far more variety in their range.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I loved tallarn back in 2nd ed. Wanted to start a small force but never got round to it. Just waiting patiently for the relaunch. I may be waiting a while.

why does no one like Catachans anymore! They are Rambo, Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, and all the other awesome jungle battle guys combined. And by the way, in the fluff they eat nails, benchpress terminators, and kill marines by the bushel, but in game they are just guardsmen. They really need a current edition codex.

I love the feel of the Catachan. The hard soldiers and masters of the Jungle Fighting and sniper teams, and they have some killer heroes to lead them. If only Mordians had that...
I also have loved the Vostroyan since the Battle Report (Back in 5th) in the WD about Commissar Von Blacke and his ventures.
Mordian look awsome as well, and I'm thinking after my small Cultist bands finished as well as my other guard army I might collect a Volpone based Mordian, Vostroyan and Steel Legion army... Still just an idea though.

It may be a stretch but my first choice goes to The Last Chancers. The second then goes to the Catachan Jungle fighters. All the other regiments running around with fancy gear and flashy uniforms. Forget that, KNIVES OUT men!

It is a toss up between Valhallens and DKOK for me.

Thinking about it I would say:

1.DKOK
2.Valhallens
3.Cadians

Cadians, they're SO convertable!

Seeing a squad of veterens swoop in in a Vendetta, secure the area, deliver that math assignment, and extract within 2 minutes would be freaking sweet.

I'm kinda torn between the Valhallans and the Tallarns. Too bad though that GW focus so much on the Cadians and the Catachans instead of making new models for everyone else.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his need

Steel Legion for me. I feel DKoK is too common as an alternative range for IG.

Vostroyan. They are the best representatives of the 40k art direction in my opinion.
Cadians are just generic sci-fi soldiers and Death Korps are a bit silly with the skullfaces. The Vostroyans are nice and characterful.

It's almost unfair comparing Elysians and FW Tallarns, but just taking into account fluff and general model range, for me, it's:

1) Valhallan Ice Warriors (although I'm still waiting for the Logres Snow troopers pictured in the 3rd ed codex)

2) DKoK

3) Mordian Iron Guard

4) Praetorian Guard

5) Steel Legion

I miss the old metal Catachans, who were actually pretty darned cool-looking, mainly because they apparently stayed away from the roid-aid the plastic Catachans were drinking.

Damn true. So incompatible with Cadians now as the proportions on the arms are just obscene, even for heroic scale. Still I love them. All guard are great, but only to the civilians they are defending, and presumably to the commander shelling out the cash to buy them!!

Thanks to many hours of tireless lecturing from people who care I can tell you DKoK actually borrow from across many uniforms present in the world wars. There are bits of French, bits of German, and other bits on the side as well.

They are pretty much designed around the soul-draining life of that era, sent off as young men who believe they are defending the greater good and committing themselves to the bleak future of unending war. And 'Krieg' is war in German.
