I may be part of a youth group which apparently has watching anime as one of its founding values...but I don't actually watch all that much of it. Most of the newer stuff bugs me, and I only seem to get around to watching the "oh my god everyone's dead and a that random goth lady's eyes are bleeding" series (Ie Berserk...where everyone dies and the bad guys win, end of...well sorta). Meh, manga's more my thing as I can't be assed reading subtitles all the time unless its a really good movie.
Oh and Cowboy Bebop is a fave. No-one disses Cowboy Bebop, even if it is a crazy bootlegged copy in basterdised Korean. ^^

maybe thats what learning japanese by watching anime does to you, good luck with that anyway
Harry Gateaux - Arigato - Thank You. (Think of pronouncing Harry as 'Arry.)
Harry Gateaux go Sinus - Arigato Gozaimasu - Thank you very much
It's a Dicky Mouse - Itadakimasu - Let's eat
Go name a sigh - Gomen nasai - I'm sorry.

Seeing a film with subtitles is not much of an issue as far as the reading is concerned. With the screen being so large you just sort of take it all in instead of having to watch the bottom of the screen to see what is being said.

1. I didnt think you meant (what the) i meant what the fxxx are you on about.
2. you havnt learnt japanese at all if that is your translation of it is.
3. Words are not for amusement they are for communication it is lazyness that makes real words and turns them into slang.
4. I doubt you could ever learn words the way you are proposing to due to the fact that the subtitles mostly dont translate the same as whats being said and when it is correct its translated into english tense which is completely different, i know i can speak japanese.
Anyway i wasnt trying to put you down just thought it was funny

I did not seriously propose learning this way and agree I can't speak Japanese. Have always been crap at languages.
Others however potentailly could. But that is another thread.
I have remembered some phrases by using silly mnemonics. As I was typing them I just went along for amusement playing with the words pushing them further into outlandish whimsy. Not taking the pee out of another lingo, the butt of the joke was my own "misunderstanding"
Humour is also something that language communicates, ne?
It obviously failed this time

3. Words are not for amusement they are for communication it is lazyness that makes real words and turns them into slang.
Reading your post, I find this statement painfully ironic.
In any event, it appears jokes about language are serious business, just like liking that weird My Little Pony show makes you a terrible weirdo and not liking anime is pure, unabashed racism.
All this simply reminds me how terribly rusty my Japanese is and now I need to go brush up.
Oh, and here's something that, for some reason, always makes otaku's heads explode whenever they hear it:
I really don't like anime in general.
I like Japan, I like Japanese, I like Japanese people, and in fact, my major in college was East Asian Studies, and I studied in Japan for a semester and loved every minute of it.
For some reason, a lot of people can't reconcile someone disliking anime but liking Japan. In fact, while I was in Japan I wondered how many foreign students were there chiefly because of anime. There weren't a lot who fit that description, but more than you'd think.

Actually, I've never watched MLP, but in the same vein, I really don't give a crap if people like it. That's their choice. I do find some of the memes that have sprouted from it to be somewhat amusing.

Must admit that watching a recent thread raised a question as to why there was so much derision aimed at weirdos, on a forum dedicated to toy soldiers that have the most bizarre backgrounds.
Added to which there is much discussion of which bit of said weird universe you would most like to be/do/possess etc

Anyone else see the irony?
No, as GW products are meant for all ages (yet have adult themes). MLP is a show made for little girls.

But she kept tabling me... metaphorically and literally.
Getting back more on topic she gave all her moves names like they always do in anime cos somehow, if it has a special name, it hurts the guy harder! Apparently.
