That is an excellent conversion. I like how very mutated it is, almost beyond human at this point.

@Vic haha thats okay I'm not knocking myself just good old fashioned british self deprecation.

@ Skalk thanks man, I am going to build him a 'twin' I like the idea of the Doctor having the Scaly as a personal bodyguard and these two scuttling forwards in front like bloodhounds.

Big general thanks to Skalk, Bruticus, LDD and Vic, think you guys are the only four people subbed to this thread and your comments and criticisms have been really useful. It is strange, I have heard people say that blogging is good to keep a project going and I am definitely more motivated to get stuff done and posted so I can share it with you guys and find out what you think. Hope life is treating you all well and hopefully I will have more to share soon.

Great blog, don't know how i've missed it.

All your conversions are awesome. I especially like the Scaly, and the paintwork that you've done to him. The burning brazier on his back is particularly well done.

Looking forward to more.

No thank you mate it has been a pleasure to watch and comment, which I must now get back to the mutie with gas mask has turned out looking bad ass, the mustard colour actually is nice change plus really draws the eye to the model.

The other mutie had me thinking Genestealer cult due to the skin tone which I liked, I also love the ghouls body poses they are some of the best GW bodies around at the moment especially for converting.

I hope to see this expand further keep up the great work

Having 2 of those as bodyguards is an excellent idea. Same kind of weapons, or changing it up? In any case I'm looking forward to it, and I hope you don't mind if I snatch that Ghoul to Scavvy idea.

I think you should call this one eenie, the twin should be called minee, and the doc should be moe. When they ask where meanie is you can chuckle softly and say right behind you, or ask if they are volunteering.

Great work on the gang so far I've never been a fan of the scaavies, but your changing my mind.

Firstly A massive thank you to Skalk for promoting my thread, I did not ask he did it off his own back and I really appreciate the gesture.

@mediumofdeath thank you for the kind words, I had a lot of fun learning how to paint flames and some of the techniques like unifying washes I have started to apply to other painting projects.

@inmygravenimage thanks bud and welcome aboard. Scavvy gangs are excellent opportunities to go crazy on the modelling front, I am personally really inspired by Ghostflame's amazing gang. I'm sure everyone has already seen it but if by any chance it slipped past anybody check it out.

@LDD hey bud, Genestealer hybrids were some of the first models I purchased way back in the mists of time and you have proven yourself psychic as they are my next project after this.

@Skalk feel free to steal. I stole it from Ghostflame anyway!

@Theophony I am glad I have produced a Scavvy that you like! Haha great name suggestions we will have to see. thanks for commenting!

Like most people out there I have spent a lot of the last 24 hours watching a news screen so no modelling to show today. Our thoughts go out to our cousins over the sea, stay safe and stay strong.

@Skalk I was thinking of arming the second scuttley gribbly twin with two of these arms.

Trouble is I only own one, and its stuck on a model, although that has never stopped me. ( I would save a lot of time and effort if I did not constantly rip apart my miniatures to repurpose parts)

I was thinking about trying to make some actually. It's not particularly complicated as its just an arm with a spike attached so I may chance it tomorrow. Currently I am imagining both arms straight and angled behind him to give the impression he is racing forward (like Japanese people run in Akira Kurosawa movies)..... Is that racist?

That would be an interesting pose if you can achieve it, the arms should be quite straight forward to pose depending what range you use, PC would be the best way to produce the blade IMHO and a little GS work.

My dark vengeance miniatures arrived today, all the way from America. I got these guys for a steal on eBay but I have had to wait two weeks for them. I have to say that, after finally being able to handle the models, I am really impressed with the sculpts. Well done GW well done!!

It is really easy when kit bashing to get carried away with cutting up and changing everything that you lay your hands on. The sculpters that deigned these models know what they are doing. To that end sometimes nothing is needed for a model to go straight in and fit with what you are doing. I love this sucker and I'm not touching him,

Just a simple head swap on this one and he also joins the group

I dd this by accident whilst trying to work out the different snap fits, liked it and (although it needs quite a lot of GS applied) was a simple solution to one of the mutations I was struggling to think of a way of achieving

Still after such simple construction I wanted to get my hands dirty so made these twoas well.

I ended up using the same head on both if them. I spent some time looking for a better alternative but in the end in both cases I decided they looked best so I went with it.

Lots and lots of GS stuff to do on them now but the basic pose for all of them is there. One consequence of using these new parts is that ths fella no longer loos like he belongs

He might ha be to become something else or I may try and paint over the purple ad see if it will tie him in better.

Hope you like

Lots done today. Prepare for picture dump.

Quick starter here are a few clearer images of two of the gangers from yesterday

Scavvy with blunderbuss

Scavvy with 'spikes mutation'

After viewing everything again this morning I am not sure that the dark vengeance torsos and legs fit in to what I am trying to achieve. You get a really spindly, malnourished effect by using ghoul and zombie parts and I want to keep this across the gang. As a result I need to produce more gangers, and fast. Here are todays endeavours.

Scavvy with autogun

Scavvy with two head mutation, with apologies to PDH for ripping off his work

I am particularly happy with this gribbly claw mutation Scavvy who looks like he has just shuffled out of 'The Thing'

I thought about not putting the pistol on his back but knew that at some point I would come up against some 'armed with whats on the model' arsehole and it doesn't detract like I thought it would

I am really happy with how these guys are starting to turn out and will have them finished over the next few days. Obviously I need to smooth and cover the GS work and add a few bobbles and trinkets here and there but they are basically complete.

I still need to produce a tentacle ganger. Really not sure on what to use, I would like them to be of the octopus variety with suckers. I will have to have a think but I may have to fashion them from scratch as I don't know of a miniature line that makes them.

After all that nastyness I needed a little break so finished off a miniature I have had partially built for some time now. My second bounty hunter.

He has been through various stages today.

He started off a little over the top....

Then I took him too far in the other direction.....

So eventually I ripped him apart and incorporated some other bits and ended up with this

He suffers from the standard problem that games workshop don't build legs that fit the scale of their torsos but I am pretty happy with him. As he is using the torso that I sent him for a swap and is rocking a vaguely germanic look I guess I should call him Viktor. This is what I assume you look like anyway Vik.

Those Scavvys look excellent. And as for 'ripping off' ideas, there's a possibility that PDH found it from someone else, who took it from someone else, who took it (you get the idea). And if it was 100% his, you honor his vision by building your own.

I'd ask when we're going to see some paint, but since I don't feel like being called a hypocrite today I'll pass on it.

i am blushing here in my living room... a mini named after myself... and even a bounty hunter... and we all know ever since boba fett that bounty hunters are the baddest and meanest breed in the galaxy... they ooze coolness^^... so many thanks for that honor!

also you modeled him with one of my favorite heads... that of the monocled pistolier! and then also with chainsword AND shotgun!!!... who could ask for more

as for the scavies... what i like the most here is the use of these kroot long rifles... these sure have lots of good style on them!... i need to one day make up some gangers on my own... the more i see of you good folks make cool looking characters i need a gang of my own!...

two head... did you cobble two heads together or is there a two headed head option in one kit i don´t know of?...

as for that clawfinger...that hand is really cruel looking...

and...i knew you´d like maedes stuff

cheers, vik

@vik haha no problems dude, that monocle is fashioned by me but I couldn't let you go into battle without one could I! The claw is from the new chaos forsaken kit, I ordered some parts and when they arrived they were all really oversized for the models but in this case that worked to my favour I think, it makes him look really misshapen. Glad you liked the mini, I will be playing a match with him so I will let you know how I get on. You should definitely make a gang, I am perennially in Berlin so I can bring a gang in hand luggage and we could play with some of your lovely scenery!

now that sounds promising... i really could do with a bit of teaching me to play...

is it work related?

and yeah... i am amassing stuff for quite some time now and i should put it to good use now...namley making a gang^^... i just need to find a good theme...

Well there is plenty to choose from, do you know the different houses? Can I ask how you got into the hobby if you have never played? It was work related but unfortunately I lost my job in January so I'm surviving as best as I can at the moment. Hence the prolific model making.

I can forward you a link to a PDF of the necro minds rules in German if you like, however your English is do good this is probably completely unnecessary

actually i do have most of the rules... as i am a follower of most cool stuff here, dave´s thread provided me with lots of the rules already... but i never played...because i have no one to play with... that may change soonish though... as a classmate of mine, her husband plays WHFB... not really 40k or even ´mnunda... but you have to make do with what you have

a former fellow student introduced me to the wargaming... we menat to start to play... i got a bit of his unpainted minis and i wanted to start making my own army back then... then we fell apart...(women related stuff) and recently... about that time i joined dakka dakka... i started with 40k... more out of artistic interest than actualy the intention to play... and i got really carried away by all the story telling you can do with just how you can model a mini... that is still the best part of the hobby... that and scratchbuilding... which i love too^^..painting small stuff is really hard for me... i seem to lack most of the needed skills... but i get better... in really tiny babysteps

and my current lack of productivity is due to school life... a year ago i was one of the top posters here on dakka due to my own unemployness...(?right term?)... now homework and family life are making time in short suply

but every now and then i still can get into a creative frenzy^^

and to answer your question... i know of the esher gang ( i don´t own any enough female minis...), the redemptionists... which i would love to make...
the van saar, which i think would make a perfect assasin gang...i own a few of their models...
then the goliath...wich i have a few plastic early models still all unused...but really cant stand all the shiney muscle look
then the scavies... sadly i don´t own any...but i have quite a bit of zombie sprues and a whole lot of other useful bitz and odd ends here and there...(so one of the most likley gangs... but needs a fresh new take for me to actually start here^^)
bounty hunters and the other more toughguy stuff like gladiators and suchlikes would be a cool idea too...hmmmm... i thinki forgot those baldies... i just cant stand those delaques... really way too overused ...just because they use trenchcoats is no excuse for everyone to make these gangs

i forgot more? hmmm^^

well... i dunno how you think about that matter... but i prefer to play with painted minis... if i could focus on somthing for long enough i probably would have a gang or an army already... but i get disatracted so often... *look...a bird*

also... not only painted but also named... as i think of myself as one of these armchair generals that want to have a sort of backstory for each mini...sounds stupid?...well probably for a guard player it is like a death wish^^

Vik you an easily pull off an imperial guard army with names...just rename them every time you play, or write the names on the bases as they develope. I had a guard army years ago. Only played it a few times but my favorite game to date was against a tyranid general who was a jerk and ran off a few gamers from our store with his attitude of greatness. He was good. Had a great undefeated streak. Then faced my guard back in third edition. I mopped the floor with him, not by skill, but by luck. Every time he would argue a rule it wound up blowing up in his face. Killed his tyrant on the first turn when he said I had to aim at another model because it was closer. I missed and the template scattered over the tyrant and it failed all three saves he had. The best part of it, and getting back to the point. He was. Great painter and was delicate with his models. Me, I painted directly on the metal, no primer, and as each of my men died I gave a Quick eulogy then tossed them three feet away into there carrying box, paint chips flying. Each man got a name during the eulogy, hitch I wrote on the bases. In future games I would lament each of the men and how their brother (Sam name) had died on another planet in service to the emperor.

Name them, come up with a medal symbol to give them as they die, that way after 6-7 games you'll find you hero, and the guy also most likely to have a red shirt at a Star Trek convention.
