LOL... thephoney... i loved that lil bit of your gaming history... mopping the floor with such oponents must be very cool!...he had it comming for sure ... i love the idea to make this kind of hero achievement thing... that will definatly be something i try to work out... bases for names is a must... tho i too have to figure out a good looking way how to do this... saw too much halfhearted way of doing this aroun here...the models i paint i am way too attached to...so probably no flying around for me... but a good lament for them each time they die is definatly a must... a scream in agony too...as i am by heart a roleplayer

@ Vik- Naming each of your models is even more reason to play Necromunda. 8-12 Necromunda miniatures vs. the uncountable hordes of 40K?

Although you do seem to have a penchant for massive and overwhelming projects...

@Hyenajoe, welcome aboard and thanks, glad you like that thread. I owe Skalk a beer for putting it out there, shame he lives over 5000 miles away.

I am currently tackling the problem of zombies. After getting my hands on the GW kit it really isn't great is it! Some good parts but they are horribly miss-proportioned. Any advice out there in the dakkosphere?

Don't buy GW kits
j/k there are much better zombies from other manufacturers out there, but SOME GW zombie parts work..they are just zombies, so it's a way to get many on the table.

Those new DH gangers are fantastic! The claw gent is probably my favourite - he looks so spindly and gribbly, and you've somehow managed to make that massive claw look in proportion

The DH kit is ace for scavvies, but you've really made them your own. The improvised weapons and ragged clothes suit perfectly, but it's the attitude and poses that carry them. I really like the double headed gent - the one head looks like it's roaring at whoever's getting attacked, the other is attempting to crane his neck to see!

For zombies I tend to use regular GW kits and a lot of GS to get some slack, 'not right' sort of poses - not a big fan of the zombie kit myself. I think mine are mostly flagellant, cadian and catachan kits, mainly because that was what I already had - you can do it with any kits at all. I'll see if I can get some better pics up on my blog this afternoon and I'll go through some parts for ideas. Can't wait to see what you do with your own!

@scarper haha cool thread, I never thought I would see a zombie yeld spyrer! I missed one of your replies a little ways back I was a queen Margaret student, graduated 2006, used to live on the mile over the road from GW and the clamshell fish and chip shop. Will be up in the next few weeks actually... The forsaken mutation parts can work well but you have to cut them off at the elbow to get rid of their chunky bicep/shoulders. I have found doing a cut and shut with the top of a kroot arm works okay.

@dsteinglass cheers for all the advice, I will get researching! Your help appreciated as always

@tom191 thanks for the comment man, short and to the point, appreciated!

I'm holding out for some plague bearer torsos and I need a second nurgle lord to make my second Scaly hence the lack of updates. More soon

I was going over the work I have done for the last few weeks and decided that there was one model that was bothering me, my boss, the doctor. It's not that I am unhappy with the paintjob, or his pose, it's just that where most of the gang are being built out of vampire counts bits and bobs, they are quite hunched and skinny figures. The doctor towers above them as a result, he is almost the same size as the scaly. It has bothered me for a while now so I decided today that enough was enough. I tried a few head swaps just to make sure it was not the large zombie head that was causing the whole problem and when I concluded it was not there was nothing for it but to build a new mini worthy of my scavvy king.

This is the fruit of the afternoons labour...

I went through the mill trying to choose how to arm him. I spent the whole time trying to keep his withed claw hand but now I am thinking about cutting it off and giving him an auto pistol. I quite like the slightly Arabian nights look he is rocking with the robes, sword and head covering and the base was fun to build, I may add sludge or smoke belching from the pipe work and a few more grizzly trophies hanging from the boundary pole.

I spent the last part of my modelling time working on tentacles. Still not quite coming out how I would like.

I like your old Doctor but this new one is just fantastic. Love the pose and the Arabian Nights feel to it. How have you made the head? I can't figure it out but it looks great as does the sword arm.

I'd be tempted to leave the withered hand because it is a great pose and an autopistol would obscure his face somewhat.

One thing I would suggest is making the banner/trophy pole removable, it could slot into a hole in the base easily enough. Something like that would cause a lot of trouble on most scenery.

As for your old Doctor - any plans? You could use him to represent a hired gun, there is a Mad Doc that would seem quite well suited.

that is a very daring handswap mister... at first i was unsure about thelasgun ... but the way he wields that sabre... i like that...

also i think he has the air of a beggar king around him... that is almost poetic!
some GS work i see heading his coat...but i think that is again a very brilliant conversion!

@ Bruticus - cheers dude. The head is one of the zombies from the corpse cart kit. He normally des not have a lower jaw so I took one from the skeleton warrior skull with open mouth and hey presto.

I agree on the autopistol, I would have angled it away from the head but then the line of the arm would make no sense. Great shout on the banner pole, I had not thought about gantries (face palm)

As for the doctor I don't know I may put him up for auction or he could become an NPC. Before I turned the nurgle lord into my Scaly I thought about making a scenario for him because he had no purpose in my gangs. I had the idea of using wahammer quest or space hulk tiles to make a dungeon labarynth. D3 Gangers wake up in a room, the last thing they can remember is knocking them back at a local drinking hole. They are briefly aware of the murmur of conversations from above and can dimly make out viewing windows where dark shadowy figures stare down at them. On one of the walls in large letters, written in what appears to be blood is a single word. "Run"

The idea for it was that it is like a piece of snuff theatre for the ruling houses of the spire. Gangers explore through a labyrinth with the vague hope of finding an exit. They encounter booby traps, rooms filled with plague zombies and a special character called The Butcher (my nurgle lord per scaly) the half wit monstrosity offspring of one of the ruling families who is kept in the pit and lives only to kill.

I think it would have worked quite well with a little elbow grease and is still a scenario I wold like to explore. I like the thought of Gangers discovering the dungeon section by section and not knowing what lies within the next chamber. Maybe I can make something similar for the doctor?

@Vik. I have tried to turn it into an auto gun by cutting its nozzle, do I need to do more to make it clearer? I was unsure about it being slung over his sword arm (impractical) but he needed something to place him more in the necromunda universe and this was the best solution I could find. Glad you liked and thanks for the feedback!

Can't sleep so did a bit more to the new boss. I tidied up his collar area and gave him a backpack to try and tie in his auto gun a bit more, I will plug it in to him with guitar wire rather than GS some shoulder straps. I don't think it changes his shape too much but all thoughts on whether it is a good idea or not are welcome

First of great conversion love the Arab vibe and the creepiness, so glad you did not change the hand for a las pistol as that really sells it.
The mix of torn robe and tattered head scarf looks great, and scabbard or whatever they call the dam blade is fitting as well.

Now the tank on the back IMHO is slightly over large, personally I would half the tanks and use the one larger tank only.
Also I would hang it at an angle across his back with a strap over one shoulder and around his waste, if you get what I mean that way it follows the flow of the cape and suggested movement plus wont look over loaded.

Any ideas on colour scheme ?

From these angles it looks like the tanks on his back don't quite work, too big and bulky. But that might just be the angle.

didn´t realize it was supposed to be an autogun... just check if the clip is seeable or not... an if it is covered you are set...!

i have actually no issues with the backpack... figuring... in the underhive you dont slavage what you want but what you CAN...thus you make do with what you get...

very gruesome scenario!... i think i am in a state of love and hate towards that board idea... i think it works very well... but i am rather biased against all things that are related to snuff... these days it is tragically way too close to reality... but in your setting this is more than just likley to exist!...

i have been working on a not that blood crazed version myself... my starting can be viewed in my gallery... somewhere more terrain realted (forgot where i put it )... these board ideas have the highest potential i think... for casual gaming... it is quick, you can rebuild randomly the tiles and thus create much diversity...also...you don´t have to invest soooo long in terrain building...something not to be sneezed at

You've got a bit of a Lovecraft vibe now, what with the leader and this tentacle beast guy. Most versions of scavvies I've seen tend to be funny-horror rather than horror-horror so this is quite refreshing.

@ vik cheers man. There is a LOT to add to this model tomorrow so hopefully the legs won't look out of place.

@ Bruticus wow, Lovecraft! What a compliment! I remember having books of his work as well as Giger when I was about thirteen and it has always been a source of interest so I am very pleased that you managed to pick it out from what I'm doing.

@ LDD thanks for the kind words, I have spent a few days playing with tentacles and I think the practice has paid off to a certain extent. Even today the style changed and became less chunky which is why in the final shots you can see I have removed done of the early ones that were not as good as the later work
