Were you playing against the Swedish Chef?

I almost just fell out of my seat laughing.

No, he sadly was not a muppet, but now everytime I see him I'm going to imagine the Swedish Chef!

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

Those are my "favorite" kind of comments, right up there with people who belittle paint jobs but can't even be bothered to paint their own army.

If this is how man ends up, I'm rooting for the Orks.

At my old home-brew chapter of Space Marines (red/black).

"Oh, so you're playing Blood Angels."
"No."
"Then you're Chaos?"
"No...?"
"But those are the only two kinds of Space Marines that are red..."

I just shook my head and went back to my game.

"I don't understand why we have Codex Chaos Space Marines. I mean, I can understand a Space Wolves codex, but CSM are just SM with spikes."

An actual post on Dakka. I was hoping so badly that he was trolling, but alas.... How could someone have an opinion that wrong?

But isn't true that current csm codex is just sm with spikes?

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

"OOO, Salamanders!"

.... god no.

Well, these aren't my stories, but yours reminded me of these two guys:

There's a guy I've played a few times who has a nice green color scheme on his marines...they are not salamanders...no, that is the Vulkan Hestan model, but he's not Vulkan. He always looks sad when people ask him if he plays salamanders. Well...they're green and Vulkan's your HQ...kinda makes them salamanders...

There's another guy at my shop who runs codex marines. He paints them red and black (as in some are red, and some are black). He has a nice, long bit of fluff (that he'll tell you all about if you care...or if you don't) about why there are two color schemes. Then he will explain that he didn't realize that those were the colors of blood angels when he painted them.

At any rate, I actually like it when people go with a color scheme because either they like it, or they like the fluff behind it. The thing is...and it really is just a small thing...can you try not to sound so disappointed when a random person sees Vulkan in your green army and asks if they are salamanders? Or if your red assault marines are Blood Angels? At a glance, they all look the same.

(I'm not picking on you, Horst. It's just that the people I've seen who complain about this always seem so tired of explaining it...)

Personal stories...pretty much just that everyone seems to think they know how I should run my army..."Hey, you should have ravagers in your DE list" No, I have 24 other lances, I don't need ravagers, thank you. "Hey, whey aren't you running Fateweaver?" Because he costs an extra 83 points and forces a particular play style. "Swift claws are horrible. There's no reason to run them." Well, I like them, so sod off.

Heh heh...I have a second, smaller army of Marines that are a DiY Chapter, who look deceptively similar to Ultramarines. I LOVE it when people ask, that way I can tell them ALL ABOUT my own AWESOME CHAPTER and if they try and complain about it later, I can just look all hurt and tell them "well, you asked about them..."

I was just at a doubles tournament and some guy was claiming my list was illegal due to having too few units (which was not true). We then got into a debate were I had to pull out the rulebook and show him the passage. It was at this point he said Armybuilder could not be wrong and my book must be a misprint.

I am not a violent person but I could of killed him when he brought the TO over and started up the debate. The TO said that he should read the rulebook and not go by what armybuilder told him. The guy gave me and his partner the finger packed up his models and left.

Yeh, I am in the process of finishing my csm army, and when I played a game with some of them, the GW worker people said " Ooo, nice death guard there mate, but I think you got the colour a bit wrong..."

NO I DID NOT. They are my own made up chaos warband dedicated to nurgle.

Somewhere.

Person: Oh Look, another Grey Knight player whose jumped on the bandwagon.

Me: Find the plastic models.

Person: Huh?

Me: Find the plastic models in my army, please.

Person searches for about five minutes.

Person: Uhh...just the DreadKnight.

Me: That would be because I've got 3500 points of metal and resin Grey Knight stuff I've been playing for five years. The Dread Knight, which you'll note is heavily converted not to look like a baby carrier, new weapons on the dreads and Interceptor Packs for one squad of my Power Armour Grey Knights are the only changes I;ve made.

Person: Uhhh, well...

Me: Now get the hell off my wagon.

Dark Eldar are primarily a CC army.

Like, I know there's builds meant to be mainly CC, but Dark Eldar are primarily shooting-based. The high I and WS is mainly meant for clearing a unit once you've shot them.

I've even seen wych cult armies, but even they're still reliant on some shooting.

My new Space Marine Army, which I'd hastily sprayed black, painted their shoulders green and with silver rims and guns. I was 13, and it was the first time I'd properly painted an army. Damn I was proud of them, and I still am (despite me finally noticing how bad some of the paintjobs were. they were all flat colour, no washes, thick layers of spray, blurred detail and paint splashes).
For my 13th birthday i was playing a game at Games Workshop. Not at home. Not at school. AT GAMES WORKSHOP!! Happy as a dog with two dicks, was I. I got paired with a Tau player (we had about 500pts each in a 1000pts game day), and we got tabled by a Terminator horde (10 Assault Terminators and a Terminator Chaplain deep striking onto the objective we'd held with infilitrating Kroot). My Tau ally spoke to me angrily:

"This was your idea! You and your badly painted Black Templars lost me the game!"

I looked down at my Space Marines, who didn't look like Black templars by any stretch of the imagination, my pride and joy. I then looked at my 'ally's' army, half of which were either only basecoated or unpainted. I gave him a quizzical look, and replied:

"Hypocrisy, much?"

Many and varied forces in progress according to waxing & waning whims.

I may never finish an army in my life.

"Retribution is like the Blood Angels of Warmahordes."

I can't wrap my head around that one. I think he was implying that Retribution is broken, but that doesn't make sense. OK, Retribution is the Blood Angels of Warmahordes. And the Blood Angels are the Haqqislam of 40K. And Haqqislam is the Rasputina of Infinity.

What?

I think you're exactly right. Now, I haven't painted a painting since high school...but I was terrible at it, and I have spent more time practicing that than I have my minis (thus far). Not to say that I'm terribly good at painting models, either, but I'm definitely better at it than anything else artsy.
