Wow some of these are really amusing! I've never had anything too bad said to me. Mainly just the derisive glances of anyone who learns that "I play war with toys." I admit I'm a bit of a nerd, but I am also a very large nerd who boxes and rolls BJJ. Hehehe so pretty much the only flak I catch is from my family and gf's family... My Dad: "You have some weird........ tendencies..." Thanks pop.... Mom: "Well it's not a bad thing but......" my gf's mom: "How do you play war with these things? Put your army on a table with someone elses and say 'bang I got you'?" ughhhhhh...... Then there is my girl friend: "I love you my nerd! Your so cute and I am glad it makes me happy!" Yes I plan on keeping her outside of that not a whole heck of a lot as of yet. Oh besides this annoying 16 year old kid at my LGS. I will be having a nice conversation with another person and he'll walk up and hear us discussing 40K. He then precedes to explain on how my Tau or Nids wouldn't be able to stop his Snikrot and blah blah blah...... I said that I'd play him but he "Only plays apocalypse" sooooooooo ok what's the point of telling me how great you are if you never intend on playing me one on one?

Aside from replacing boxing and bjj with lacrosse thats pretty close to my ordeal with it. Otherwise I just hate the "space marines are so cheap/space marines are for noobs" comments I hear. I play Salamanders because I love how in the fluff they can actually be said to be protectors or the imperium's servants. The twin linked melta/flamer things is second to my interest in them.

Yes, if you like an army play it! I just personally shy away from SM just because so many people play it. But they play it for a reason! Either its cause they love it or that its good! Honestly I will never look down on people for that. I personally like the aesthetic of Tau but I'd like to build a Kill Team of every army I tend to paint for relaxation while at college. Many times I have shown up at school with paint on my hands or a smudge on my face best way ever to show up to class! I have some of the best grades in school too! I think 40k makes you smarter

@FifteenHours - Yes that is the plan for me as well It ain't often that I run across a girl who will over look an addiction that most of my guy friends scoff at!

Oh and an added one when I played my first game ever with Tau against a DE player!

Me exploding or wrecking everyone of his transports early in the game and making his archon and incubi hitchhike/walk his way across the table he got kinda quiet. Then when he finally made his way in to assault range his guys were pretty dwindled down. After tying in combat for 2 turns his Archon finally sweeps my FWs then I just shoot him. Massacre for the Tau

yeah ive played many a game against tau, and have a pretty good record. Which is where I hear the griefing. Although I have to admit I can get a wee bit competitive at times. I've been lucky though to not have to deal with TFG...which i hope doesn't mean its me.

Don't be too upset, I invited a friend to join my gaming group, upon being asked to choose an army (and after showing him the options) the response I received was: "I want to play as Mandalorians." Nonetheless the Space Marines are in the mail and I will be painting them "like Mandalorians"... for cash $$

A guy picked two up and asked if they sword fight and started having a mock duel between two Mantic skeletons and make clanging noises. I think he was joking and actually wants to see how the game is played-he's claimed as much before.

My dad told me once how Warhammer would never do anything for me, and it was just an expensive hobby that wouldn't help me in life. After I used Warhammer models to teach Greek Mythology and rub it in his face, he quieted down about it

I've been told at a tournament that I bought all 22k of my Blood Angels (and painted them) just to jump onto the BA bandwagon..

Shortly after the Land raider and the squad within it was no more.

I take a risk and assault his Captain with my Overlord to keep him out of range of my shooty line.

"You do realize you have an Initiative of 2 right? That was a real stupid move."

One turn later theres a dead BA captain on the ground and a Overlord with no wounds taken.

Needless to say he kept quiet after this.

OHH and also, I won the game because he had no remaining units after turn 5 . I was quite excited to have won by biggest victory by far against such an arrogant player.

"Your army is broken!" -4th Ed (All my veterans had artificer armor. It was hilarious he was playing chaos space marines. from 4th ed. Undoubtly the most rigged codex I ever faced.

I got told by an Marine opponent that orks were cowards, after he broke a unit with shooting, with all of his army camped inside LR's and Rhinos, or behind reinforced wall scenery.

I asked him which army showed up on the field in t-shirts and beer cans, advancing in the open under artillery bombardment.

Him- 'That's easy... the dumb orks'

And which army is wearing the thickest armour in the game, and hiding inside the best armoured vehicles in the game, afraid to come out?

Me- 'That's right... the Mighty Space Marines... 'and they shall know no fear...' my ass....

@Che-Vito - The penal legion makes me think about when I play Russian Conscripts in Flames of War.... since I get hit on 2+ I hear a lot of "Whackin 'em and stackin 'em" comments though I just find it funny....

@Che-Vito - Totally understandable! I tend to kinda take the role of the historical general when I play a historical army. I played in a tourney a month ago and lost a whole battalion of troops first turn because I forgot my opponent had a SMG platoon (3 shots each) in ambush. I ran giving him double shots..... In one turn I lost over a third of my army..... I laughed really hard due to my own stupidity and then thought that it was probably close to real life.... But then again if I hadn't laughed i think I woulda cried cause I then got tabled 6-1.......

I'm setting up my Orcs and Goblins to battle a friend's Lizardmen in the store and a guy walks over from the 40K battle.

To be fair, there's not a lot of difference at arm's length. I would think it was your representation of a conical straw hat because all those black dots in neat rows makes me think of a weave rather than a helmet net cover.

While I wouldn't say they're unpainted, the bare bases on the infantry and lack of detailing on the suites makes this a somewhat reasonable question. I do like your color scheme, though.. I'd just say add some rubble to the bases and maybe some ID markings to the suits to help make them look more finished.
