But it is not naked.
And we already stated that there is a big difference between castes.
Maybe Ethereal caste lack books and Fire Cast have it?
Until you provide a picture of naked female member of all castes I will assume that Tau females have one.

Both the male and female Ethereal have the same ribstructure. Thefore the female is nude and Tau do not have breasts.

As much as I love Warhammer 40000 and all of it's awesomeness and grim darkness - I must here say Clone Commandos would won the day.

Again, I agree for Etherial.
But other Tau Caster all have different appearance.
Now find me a picture of Fire Caste male and female.

I have yet to see a drawing or miniature of a female Ethereal by GW.

If I'd go by every stupid piece of paper BL has released, the Ecclesiarchy would have its own fleet of battleships, Space Marines would regularly go into battle wielding multilasers and SoB would fraternize with IG personnel.

But hey, interpretations, right?

No Coa is right, each of the Tau Castes are its own sub species. For example, Air Caste Tau have wings (at least that is what it said in the codex). So there is no denying the possibility of Tau breasts in different castes.

Xenology? Yeah, I have that book myself - but given that 40k does not have a canon policy, it is merely one interpretation of many - and one that seems to contradict the studio's own depiction of Tau physiology, which personally I value as higher. When the author/illustrator of that book got the feet to differ from GW's idea, why should he be correct about breasts or any other biological trait?

And you need to cut down on the coffeine; there's really no need for insults.

That picture shows one thing to be completely different from what we know is true (the hooves), why should we trust it about anything else? It's just Artistic license. There are many contradicting things in W40K, but they are mostly all Canon. Not everything is straightforward and mistakes can be made.

The whole pheremone idea it suggests would also completely change what the Tau are, and would ruin them for many people.

The pheremone and Diamond thingy, like was stated before, are completely canon. Etherials have the Diamond thingy, which is the source of the Pheremone control.

Yeah i just noticed those, although they are only present on the older models, and are not on the new ones. Does not mean the Pheremone thing is canon though.

I just noticed how this: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m490039_99060113003_TauEtherealMain_873x627.jpg looks different from the other Ethereals which were released at the time (Aun'shi and the Special Edition one) prehaps that is a Female one? It might just be the angle of the picture though.

Fear not - the question of whether Tau have breasts or not depends entirely on your own interpretation of the available sources, largely influenced by personal preferences as well as the image of this species you grew up with.

It took me some time to get behind this as well, but the absence of continuity means that you are free to pick and choose what to believe, as is anyone else (a liberty that BL writers frequently make use of, as publicly stated by some). Hence, no need for heated arguments.

Then there is only one female Tau in existance.

Shadow sun.

There are no other females in the game, codex or fluff.

By your "not real canon" reasoning, that is.

There is no "real canon", just as there is no wrong one. There is no canon whatsoever, period. Only, to quote Gav Thorpe, "tens of thousands of overlapping realities in the imaginations of games developers, writers, readers and gamers". Pick yours.

In this, an interpretation in which Shadowsun is the sole female Tau would certainly be viable as it cannot be "wrong". It's not something I would subscribe to, tho.

That is a dead and cut open Tau, not really nude...
And also wrong, since Tau don't have Human legs...

READ THE BOOK!

Those are not human legs. Perhaps you can't understand the terminology.

Those legs in the picture, have ankles that cannot rotate. Just like a HORSE! WITH HOOVES!

And there are many, many kinds of hooves. The Tau models have several different kinds.

Some have the large "horse" hoof. Some have smaller "toed" hooves like a rhino or deer.

Thus, Tau must cross their legs to turn their bodies left or right.

Tau also have a vertical rib cage. That means they can't flex their torsos.

Breasts are on mammals. Tau have four fingers and no fur or hair. They are not mammals.

And don't argue about the hair. Those topknots or whatever are explained somewhere as decorative wear (like orks maybe?).

Oh and I also should mention that each caste is a different breed of tau. So a firewarrior has a different physiology compared to say an aircaste pilot and it's again impossible to switch castes.

I agree with this inso far as black people have different skull features from white people and asians. They can interbreed (it would just mix the allelles and create a heterozygous individual) They just don't because of their caste system You are correct though, females and males (at least as near as we can glean from the text) serve equally. There may however be something more akin to a spartan system with the firewarriors, as they need fresh recruits constantly...so that does raise some interesting questions about the responsibilities of a female in the fire caste. Obviously, as there is no mention of her rarity, Shadowsun is a fine example of just how far females can go in the fire caste, but the need for reproduction brings up an interesting idea that I think should be explored.

I have read the book and I am not disproving the information in Xenology. This may be true for Ethereals, but I as I said before, all of the tau are separated into different sub-species based on their castes. The tau on each of the castes look similar, but each have a slightly different biological build. Fine female Ethereals may not posses breasts and may not be similar to mammals, but that does not prove that females in different castes do not have boobs.

I have not seen any tau with different kinds of hooves. Xenology has TOES. If it's completely wrong about that, why would it be right about anything else?

I dont know if you have access to the tau codex, but if you read a bit of the history, you find out that tau of the air have developed wings. As said in Xenology, tau ethereals have the hormone crystal. Its like different bear species. A grizzly bear and a polar bear are both bears, but their genetics are different, making them different sub species.. So, the tau in the different castes may be born similar, but each are genetically different, even if by a little bit.

They no longer have wings though, and Xenology is innacurate.

There Tau castes are all different, although the Water and the Fire Caste look similar.
