I wouldn't be surprised if they had blue colored hair

Also, I hate to drag this up again, but I cannot get over if Tau give birth or lay eggs. I assume they give birth but who knows?

Hmm, given that the male models have breasts, it stands to reason that the female ones have, too. Which would make breast-feeding likely, which in turn would suggest live birth? At least I believe the two are usually (always?) connected.

Besides weird gak like platypus (platypi?) I do believe mammary glands to be typical on animals who give live birth. Although this also entails needing a womb if sorts, and for lack of hearing anything as to a breeding caste, I would expect artificial womb used by combined genetic selection.

A retired fire caste general running around getting all the female bluies prego, for the greater good of course, would be quite hilarious. In a pig headed chauvinistic sort of way of course.

Hum, I would have assumed that all castes breed normally, only that inter-caste relationships are either forbidden (most likely) or that the result of inter-caste intercourse will always be a genetically "true" member of a specific caste (-> dominant genes) instead of some weird hybrid, or that inter-caste pregnancies are impossible. Or maybe hybrids are possible, but they'd be sterile, like a hinny. Which could tailor in nicely with the aforementioned taboo, as sterile offspring serve no purpose for the Greater Good - especially when they won't perform as good as a "pureblood" in either of the traditional caste duties.

Just an idea off the top of my head, but I think I'd like that interpretation.

You know, when we put sex aside ( ) I wonder: are the differences between Tau male and female same as Human Male and female ones? ( like Men are stronger but females are more agile and such )

well seeing how Shadowsun is a woman and i believe Puretide is as well(?) it does go to show that the T'au believe in equality so I could see someone having females in their army because even if they are women and they are born into the Fire Caste they "Have" to join the ranks of the fire warriors no exceptions due to short life avg of 40 yrs

Probably not, they would be similar in size and behavior (they serve in the military in the same roles). The only real difference would be their role in reproduction. I do like the idea of artificial wombs, then the differences could become almost entirely aesthetic (fore-head thingy) with one male and one female submitting any body cell, have the two spliced together and then have the child grow up on a home-planet raised by a group of Ethereals...

Or maybe (going on a whim here) that the tau actually use the slits in there head to transfer the needed chromosomes in order to produce a fertile offspring. I wouldn't know how, it could be like an Avatar tentacle connection or something. Though the problem we run into is then where do the babies grow(i.e. wheres the whom) in which one could argue that the chromosomes travel from the slit in the head down to the whom, assuming that the Tau females have relatively the same body makeup as humans.

Commander Puretide is a male. I do agree with you on the point that females would be required to join the army do to the short lifespan.

Going over what Brother Coa said, I believe the tau male and female are sort of like human males and females. I guess the male would naturally be a bit stronger than a female tau (i.e. more muscles) while a female tau will be more leaner (as to attract males). That's just how nature intended it for us, so it is quite possible it is the same for the tau

The definition of mammal is a creature which has mammary glands.

Duck-billed platypuses are 'monotremes', a mammal which lay eggs and suckles the babies that come out of the eggs.

By analogy, it's entirely possible that Tau lay eggs and have mammary glands.

It is, but monotremes are extremely rare and as such an oddity in terms of procreation. Possible is anything (up to Tau belching up their younglings as larvae through their mouths, who then pupate before blossoming into cute little goat-kids), I was merely theorizing about what I'd deem most likely.

It says so in IIUP, it is also said that Lasgun can kill every enemy in the galaxy with one shot, that carapace armor is indestructible and that Genestealers are slow and sluggish.
And I love Asari to, they are my favorite alien race ever

Well, the modern standard of beauty has nothing to do with what "nature" intended. That's all socially influenced. Go back in history and the standards of beauty were different. However, the term you mean to use was thinner or slimmer. Females are definitely not leaner than men. Their body fat percentages are much higher, on average, than males, across their bodies. Women are also not more agile, as Brother Coa suggested.

Well, if Tau view sex purely as a reproductive requirement then I highly doubt they would be interested in a Kroot. Although I could see a humorous angle with an eccentric Earth caste scientist trying to see if cross breeding is possable and his recruitment of 'volenteers'

Actually, it's only logical for them to lay eggs if the new-borns are similar to adults in size, Monotremes are all a lot more similar in size (between adults and juveniles) than any type of primate.

You should avoid 4Chan regardless. Seriously. Things seen on the internet cannot be unseen.

The problem with Tau having machines to do their incubation and such for them is that, speaking in comparison to the rest of the galaxy, they're an extremely tech-young race, having developed all their technology over the last six thousand years (yes, yes, warp storm, time dilation, etc etc) as far as the rest of the galaxy is concerned.

That said, prior to their... elevation... the Tau had to be capable of reproduction in some form or another. Whether this is via eggs, live birth, tadpoles, they cut a finger off and it grows into another Tau, they experience cellular division, or they spit out larva, we don't know.

I think it pretty safe to assume that the Tau don't use machines to have kids. While there's definitely some implied shady dealings going on in the background of the Tau Empire, for the most part, they seem to believe that "a happy citizen is a productive citizen", and so for your average Earth Caste worker, or Air Caste traffic controller, or Water Caste materials distribution coordinator, the joys of family, of parentage, and, yes, the joys of making children, are probably not denied them. For the Fire Caste, it's probably more a matter of "when your tour of duty is over, it will be an option"... after all, with no inter-caste breeding, there needs to be a whole lot of Fire Caste mommies and daddies "back home" making more Fire Caste soldiers.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
