Another great installment, J. As Tortured said, i think a battle reports come across much better in writing. Maybe next time you should link your written report in your latest update? Anyway, keep it up and enjoy your birthday in London.
THERE IS!
It's currently my 23rd year of being alive and I got a Treeman and some woods as a gift.
However this means I have to re think my army list and go for 1500points and fit the big guy in. I'm back home now so I'll be back in video action on Saturday
Oh the treeman is finecast I did buy one treeman in metal just to see how different it is. I've been building it today and have stuck myself to the model a few times already.
Also- I read a post that said threads just die after a month or so, do I need to start a new one or can I continue here?
Threads can last forever if it's continually posted in. After a month of inactivity posting in the thread becomes Threadomancy and should be avoided unless you have a good reason, like updating a blog after a long holiday.
I don't have the ability to stay on a project for very long. As you can see from my sig i have two blogs going right now and a project in the works for later in the year, oh and i have a few other things that i haven't put on dakka. I'm determined to stay focused this year though.
It's been interesting hearing about your experiences and impressions of the hobby, both as a new player and (I think this is the elephant in the room) as a female! Girl gamers are ridiculously rare, and it's nice to see things from another perspective.
From what I've seen you're a very talented painter, and it looks like you're picking up the game quickly too.
(Happy B'day, by the way - though it looks like I'm a bit late in saying)

Thank you Skarwael- I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I'm trying not to shove the gender aspect in anyones face too much but I would imagine that my approach may be different to men even on the simpler fact that I'm making (mostly) my own deductions on what it's all about.
I've enjoyed painting the most- the building irritates me and I've glued myself to the table mroe times than I bear to count but I take extra care and time with it until I'm bloody proud of them Thanks you for the birthday wishes too. I'm uploading my new video now just about some feedback and my presents I'll be doing in the next video!
And furthermore; well done spotting the elephant. Its a nice elephant - you can see it in other blogs too: all you need is a 'different' approach: it doesn't matter what it is.Yes?
Oh and another thing: did you just call Joey a elephant? ...
Sorry, its late saturday evening - don't expect me to make sense...

Nah, it's just a saying. From wikipedia ""Elephant in the room" is an English metaphorical idiom for an obvious truth that is being ignored or goes unaddressed. "
I.e. her being a girl gamer.

I know, i feel so useless. I'll go away, regroup and come back with something interesting to tell you. If necessary it might not be on topic. To tide me over until then:

This is a nice blog and I especially like the way you have recorded your ventures as well. Probably a lot of what I will say has already been said, but here we go anyway.
Since I've been in the hobby for quite some time, I guess it is hard for me to appreciate how hard it would be for a beginner, not just non the gaming side, but the painting and modelling side as well. I believe your blog seems to address most of the concerns for a beginner and it is great to see how you are progressing. I especially admire your resolve to finish painting your units, which for fantasy can be somewhat overwhelming since a fantasy army generally has a high model count. Since you seem to be progressing well, as for army lists I find checking forums an ideal way to fine tune what is effective vs what is somewhat redundant. Its great that you have included this on your vlog, as its very intimidating to start a new project without some experienced guidance. I recently got back into Clan War, and took me awhile to get my head around the basics, so definitely having some outside help is a good thing.
I really like how your painting is progressing, and I can't stress enough that trying new techniques and practice is how you will get better. This is not to suggest that your painting is lack luster or bad, I find it is done to better tabletop standard, this is just a suggestion to beginners. I generally find with each new project to try something new. So for example, with my 40K Imperial Fists, I wanted to tackle painting lots of yellow, which can be difficult, as well as battle damage, weathering powders and some advanced techniques such as OLS effects. There are many tutorials on the net that covers pretty much everything, so really you can just have a go in your own time!
As for battles, I think your going the right way about it. Small point games at a good venue is the way to go. I believe its also good to set yourself up with some good opponents that will teach, challenge and not completely annihilate the fun out of the game. Everyone loses games, and some of the best games I've ever played have been loses, but getting tabled doesn't do the beginner any favors. Finding good opponents shouldn't be too hard though, be it at gaming stores or clubs.
Keep up the great effort and enthusiasm, and after reading/viewing your exploits, might paint some fantasy tonight....

I think as a motivator having a painted complete army makes me personally want to put my guys into action. After all they take a lot of time and effort and once that's finished I don't want them sitting around- I to do them proud It's not always easy to find the time with work and videos but I think the videos make me focused too.
What will you be painting?
Depending on my kids, might finally get round to assembling and painting a Cauldron of Blood for my Dark Elves.
I must agree that having a painted force on the battlefield looks much better than grey and metal. Been on both sides of that fence, and definitely prefer fielding painted stuff nowdays, on the rare occasions I get out!
