Those Japanese folk look great, nice colourful paint job!
I recently got a light box as well, it's dead handy, especially when the weather outside is bad.

Really impressive collection of models and terrain that I have not seen anywhere else. The color palette fits well. And you have created some beautiful bases that really bring the Japanese feel to life. Great stuff.

Hey thanks guys!
I almost ordered the lightbox but decided against it. I'm moving in a couple months so I'm trying not to get even more stuff which I will also need to move. Great excuse to work on that leadpile though.
Work on the Test of Honour project continues though. I have finished three miniatures waiting for basing. There's another one in progress as well.
First is a geisha. I don't have a lot of experience with this skin tone but it turned out ok. Luckily she has a fan to shield her awefull attempt at make up
Next is another samurai, maybe the geisha's loyal guardian while travelling?
There's also another Sohei, armed with a fighting staff, to bolster their numbers. I could't get the coat right but looks oke from a distance.
Then there is this Ronin, armed with a tetsubo, a club. Decided to match this one's paintjob with the masked one I did earlier. These will form the start of a new clan. I have a bunch of the older plastic ashigaru laying around that I want to use for this. These will be slightly converted.
Still WIP for now.
Now, let's get back to painting.

These test of honour models are looking really cool. The geisha is really nice, nice colours and some really nice blending.
Look forward to see how the Ronin turns out.

Thanks for the kind words guys!
Sorry for not updating lately. We bought a house and are currently packing and making ready for the move. Packing up al my older projects made me excited for them again. I should really finish that Warcry starter soon
All of my hobby stuff is packed away now so there will be no updates for the next few months. Our new place will have a room for I can use just for my plastic crack addiction so I am looking forward to getting that up and running.
The hobby room will sadly not be a priority though so the brushes will see no use for the coming months.
The free time is used to read up on and prepare a new RPG called Forbidden Lands. Exciting stuff as well!
See you soon I hope.
Cheers!

Hello there, General Kenobi.
been busy for a while. moving to our house, doing some minor renovations and we recently had our second baby too. Things are settling down for a while and we took a break from working around the house. While everyone was sleeping I took the chance to set up my new hobby desk.
It's not optimal yet but at least I can get to painting again, given some quiet moments. Currently typing this out while the youngest is napping on my chest. as you can see the basics are there but I'll need some beter organisation, Maybe some shelves or something, I'll see. Looking forward to picking up the Test of Honour project again (and probably be distracted a couple of times)
Another new resolution will be to check in more often, hopefully.
My next update will contain some real hobby content, promise!

Thank you Captain Brown!
Luckily for me, my oldest who is 2 years now, likes to paint and draw. We set him up with a little kid sized desk of his own. We got him some cheap paints and brushes and paint away he did! He painted one of his toy knights, which I have snuck away and is now displayed on my painting desk.
Almost has a good first coat, no? Maybe I'll have a little painting buddy soon, who knows!
While he was painting and drawing away, I managed to finish up these two miniatures. Felt good to paint again, even better to finish models I've started on more then a year ago. Two Ronin, painted and based ready to lead warbands of their own.
Next up on the desk are some Ikko Ikki, to bulk out their Sohei buddies. A lightbox is also long over due, I'm looking into building one myself with some small led light strips.
Thanks for dropping by!

Thanks Syro! So far so good, he's painted some more toy soldiers since last update. Meanwhile, I have gotten some painting time in.
I went to a trip to the local hardware store. Turns out led strips are pricey. I've checked Wayland games if they have one on offer and they sell a complete lightbox for the same price I'd get just the led strips for. I need some more basing materials soon so I'll make sure to include the lightbox in my next order.
Time for pictures! Finished a Ninja and a bow armed samurai. The ninja is equiped with throwing weapons and a grappling hook, next to the katana on his back
For the next few samurai I will paint, I'll choose a more colourfull scheme. I have some colours I want to try out more.
Thanks for checking in!

Thanks Maharg. Orks might be a good idea. He's been painting with a lot of greens and reds. Might have to face off some speedfreaks with my Tau in a couple of years Wouldn't say no to that.
I've finished the Ikko Ikki. The leader was a pain in the butt to paint, the hand holding his staff must have fallen off a dozen times during painting. He's only in the group shot in the hopes you wouldn't see the massive glue glob around his hand. Struggled a bit to get the best lightning in winter, but the light box is on it's way, together with some more hobby goodies. And now it's picture time.
First the group shot of the Ikko Ikki, these guys are now ready to help their Sohei buddies fight off the clans and bandits.
Central is the special character, forgot what his abbilities are though. The cards are still packed away somewhere.
Next up are some Ikko Ikki with improvised weapons, sat on a multibase. They can come off as well and be played seperatly.
Then there is the bamboo spear armed group.
When I look at these pictures, painting faces is surely not my specialty.
Last is a Geisha with a banner. Not Ikko Ikki related, but can be allied with. Chose to do a simple freehand of a flower. Simple but effective if I may say so.
I have some Tengu on the workbench for my next project. Aso looking forward to using the lightbox.
Thanks for dropping in!

Thank you Warboss!
I have some very small updates to show. The first of the tengu is finished and I wanted to test out the new light box. I still have to do the base and paint up his four buddies ofcourse. Very happy with the lightbox too, finally some better pictures to show. Some minor tinkering still needed I think.
I also put together a small roadside shrine. The kit is a hokora set sold by ttcombat. Really easy to assemble and it comes in a set of three. First one is finished, now I'll have to look into changing up the other two as to not have three exactly the same ones. Lovely kit of scatter terrain though!
I also dug up my terrain as it was still in boxed for the big move. Everything made it in one piece except for the Torii gate. Seems to taken to much weight and ended up bending. Luckily i have a spare to assemble!
Thanks for visting.

Thanks Captain Brown!
I ordered some modules from Hobbyzone and I'd recommend them to keep your desk organized. They take some time assembling but it's worth it. I had some modules from Vallejo but the Hobbysone stuff is far superior IMO. Definatly placing another order in the future. Decided to keep assembling a while longer and put together some more terrain I had laying around. All this stuff is from TTcombat and I'm already eyeing up one of their newer sets.
Also managed to get some painting done. The first of three roadside shrines is done along with some miniatures. First up is a naginata armed samurai.
Then there are a couple of bandits.
And the first three Tengu are done too.
My lightbox looks to be flickering, I'll need to look into a fix for that. Thanks for visiting!

Hello there.
It's been a while. Haven't had much time lately but I did get the chance to finaly finish these breachers. They have been on my desk so long they were gathering dust.
Now they can join their friends in the box and I get more space on the desk to work on samurai again.
Win win.

Merry christmas everyone.
The hollidays and the kids have left me with close to no hobby time, so it's good to finally have another sit at the paintingdesk.
Nothing much to show yet, just some paved roads I did. Added some vallejo mud effects and greenstuff world's autumn leaves spread out a bit, makes it look well traveled in my opinion.
I have about 80 cm completed already and the plan is to double it in the future. For now I'm done tiling though.
I have some more scatter terrain for Test of Honour on the bench and a couple bandits too. Finishing stages, so I'll have something new to show soon. My order also came in, Takeda's court and some courtyard walls from ttcombat.
Thanks for popping in!

This is a great project, mate. Love to see it expanding into terrain - the shrines and roads are a nice addition.
The colours are bright and beautiful and these minis are full of character. The rose on the geisha's banner and the beefy shirtless ronin are some of my favourites.
So cool that your boy is painting now too. I loved when my kids went through that phase - everything took twice as long, but at least I could pass off hobby time as family time!
Congrats on finishing the breachers too - they look great, the green is a nice addition to the usual tan/orange and I love the idea of bare feet - have never seen that before and it just works.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Tzurk, those are some very kind words.
My oldest now finds it more interesting watching me paint then doing it himself. But lile you said, still family time!
The breachers were tiring to paint, in a way. I decided to batch paint 10 at a time. This takes up way too long for my liking and gets me worn out. Painting singles or 2 to 3 at a time is mich more rewarding for me.
Speaking of 3, here are some bandits I finished comparing who has the highest local bounty.
See you next time!

Hello!
time for some wip shots to show that I'm still alive. Been playing a lot of rome II total war, that gave me the urge to start some ancient greeks. Spartans to be precise. I've finished up the test model and I have three more in the WIP stage.
As you can see they are mounted on 20mm bases. A mistake, It was late. Planning on transfering them to 25mm.
Furthermore are some japanese minis. Townsfolk, bandits and Tengu. All of these are also in the WIP stage.
I have been distracted playing War of Rights on PC lately. planning some ACW minis in the far future because of it. I'll have to lower the pile of shame first though.
Thanks for visiting.

Using black as a basing/undercoating color really paid off for these!
I knew a number of Napoleonic and other period gamers that would use this technique, rather than wash with black or brown ink afterwards- the effect is very striking.

Glad the spartans are to your liking, wanted them to look colorfull yet worn. Anyone have tips to paint battle damage on bronze shields?
I'm still undecided on how I want to base these.
I have purchased a copy of Men of Bronze. Ten men units seems to be how it's played. I have yet to give it a good read though.
I have finished painting the first unit of hoplites and started on some cavalry too. Hope you like them!

I doubled down while the kids were napping and assembled some more Spartans.
Used some stuff from the cavalry set on the hoplites to switch it up a bit.

Hello!
I managed to get some more Spartans done. That's a total of 20 hoplites and 4 light cavalry men. I once again made the mistake of painting them as one batch. I think I will let this project rest for now and return to Sengoku Japan for a while. The Spartans only need to be based but I'll squize that in between painting more terrain for Test of Honour. I also plan to revisit my finished buildings and dirty them up a bit, adding some moss,...
The weather cleared up these last few days so I was able to get a spray session in. I'd love to get these finished after all this time but there's a lot of roof tiles on that pagoda that I'm dreading to paint.
TTcombat released some new buildings for their eastern range that look tempting. Hopefully I can withstand the tempation.
