vik - You have to keep the elementals happy by referencing them now and again

I'm liking the little shack myself, a few more of those I feel. And now available with full range of details, see below.

Wow, no criticism? Must be doing something right Always happy to hear your critique vik, blunt or otherwise.

graven - Unfortunately pulling apart some old PS memory cards wasn't as fruitful. I'm sure they'll turn up somewhere though. Old sony cam next maybe?
Hmm, armoured up bus-stop? What would a 40k bus-shelter look like?
Probably wouldn't have them out in the slum-hive area? I'll think on that...but turning an old hive shack into a grot-bus-stop? That might need less research

So, finished up the shack:

Shots were taken prior to another scrub of the rust powder on the roof - that's a little less stark a transition now.

Awaiting a supply drop that surprisingly contains just GW product. The hurricanum - that orrerory looks like it might be nice on top of a silo. Or if not, it's bits will Looks like a lovely kit, only thing I can't see a real use for are the horses - but I'll see what parts they come in before writing them off. Also a battlewagon, other peeps seem to have some lovely pieces from that kit. Some savage boar-boys, both for cyber-boars and to get some naked ork torsos. And a talos, because there's lots of interesting looking painful bits in that kit too.

Selvaggio - Cheers! You're going to have to wait though I'm still waiting for the drop myself.

weety - Glad you approve Your Rustiness

ldd - You had a roof on your holiday room? You lucky bugger. We had a sheet of newspaper to share between 16 of us.....

vik - Thanks man! The tool box was from some Imperial vehicle - possibly one of the baneblade sprues?

Nothing much going on in the workshop at the moment - some minor bits and pieces on terrain, and some planning for an idea I've had for Klub Grottz.

Also played with a few concepts for bike/kopta/? ideas.

At first I was thinking of some kind of trike:

Again, these are just rough 'sketches' in plastic, just trying out concepts - there's no attempt at detailing or use of correct bits

The original idea was actually for little tracks at the front, rather than wheels - but I couldn't find the set I was looking for. I don't think the wheels cut it so I'll have to mock-up some to get a feel for how that looks too.

Although that was the idea I was first going to try out when I started picking up bits I actually came up with this one:

Those servo-grots have been watching too many Thunderbolt fighter fly-pasts This one I like and will certainly be exploring further

After I'd finished zooming the grot-fighta around a bit, and tried out the bike look I realised it might work out for another idea I've been thinking on:

And I think that works pretty well too. I spy some cheap model kits being bought in the near future

I'm hoping I'll be able to sort my land-line out in a couple of weeks, this is painful - taken about 2 hours to post this

HOLY CRAP!!

1. The shack is amazing! I have been wondering how well wood and metal would look together, and you have aced it man! So full of charachter and little extras!

2. The use of the X-wing (is that the ERTL snap-tite kit? 0r a toy?) is ingenious! - I think you mUST build the Grot T-bolt though....you have no choice, it is your destiny!!

that poor old x-wing...^^

we have that kit at home too...but my kids are totally on the star wars trip now so i wouldnae be able to use that^^

to be honest the first version lacks on so many levels...the only thing that looks good is the rider...his position seems right...the rest is less then the sum of its parts

the second version i actually like pretty much... convincing look...tho will a grot fit in?

as for the third version... i like the underslung gun look... same goes for the jetpacks...but the current rotor in the rear looks wonky...

and ...thanks monkey...i have to see at a bitz site if i can get that!

The huuge, noisy exhaust pipes are awesome! I can't stop looking at the Grot-bolt, I picture a grot with goggles grinning as wide as he can at the marvelous noise it makes!

dstein - Thanks buddy, I appreciate that. Yeah, I'm thinking some corrugated iron mixed in with the 'timber' (whatever it is that passes for timber in this area ) would be cool, some of those coming up soon. As you well know it's the details that bring the pieces to life. A model with nice details often looks better than a better executed 'sterile' piece I find.

It is indeed the little snap-tite kit. I grabbed one on impulse the other day, along with a couple of 1:76 Mk I's, which are generated some interesting ideas at the moment I think I'll be picking a few more up now, and possibly a TIE or 2 The grot-bolt will definitely be getting some further attention, it was one of those ones that just happened, always a sign to explore it.

vik - lol, one of the guys at work was astounded when he realised that I was planning to cut up a precious star wars toy and not just the tanks . If this was a high quality, large scale kit then I might be tempted to build it 'properly', but then again there'd be such tempting bits in one of those

Yeah, that doesn't match my idea at all, but I'll probably throw it through a few more variations before dismissing it entirely, specifically the tracked version.

Now that's the only issue there That cool-looking cockpit will have to be removed and larger view-panes put in, but that'll help grotify it.
I think a small gnoblar head will be okay then. Actually, there's that tiny chap I have sat on a rat somewhere, the snotling that hangs off the fantasy orc warboss. He may even fit with that cockpit in place

The rotor is wonky It's just quickly stuck in place with a blob of blu-tac to get an idea of the possibilities.
My original concept of this one was with duct-fans either side and a jet at the rear, which had recently re-surfaced after seeinf Flinty's excellent use of warma-hordes bases as duct-fans. And after playing with the x-wing hull I figured it was a close match to my original idea...

dave - They were a later addition, but definitely staying I may try out some different rotor styles, but I like the OTT nature of this one.

vik - Definitely

ldd - Cheers! Those exhausts are a perfect fit

I just happened to buy one figuring there'd be some parts I could scavenge in there, at the same cost as a couple of torso's from a bits site

vik - Yeah, although it would be kinda fun to maybe super-detail one and add some electronics

edited to acknowledge a bunch of rambling that went on whilst I was hitting ctrl-a, ctrl-c, submit.....refresh, ctrl-v, submit....refresh......

I really like the WW2 vibe of the second design myself! Are the Mk1's British WW1 Mk 1 tanks or something else?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Wow, having taken 2 days to look through this log from page 1(I admit I started skimming past alot of the text on day 2), I haveto say I'm amazed by the quality of work! The clever use of bitz as things I could never have come up with and the painting .. is just incredible!

Some real ugly(read as beautiful, in an orky, rusty, cybork mekanikal kinda way) stuff in this thread, It'd be a crime not to follow this thread to the very end!
