ldd - Well, I got one more - that was the last. I'll have a nose around for more later.

weety - goody goody goodgood!

Llama - I think adding the prop gave it a lot.

The tanks to be sure. Got two, ordered two more - I see a buggy, a bike and a trukk using parts - or to be more precise, the tracks

graven - Cheers! I was feeling the WWII and the thunderbolt thing more myself, I feel a more WWI vibe from Dastardly & Mutttley. I know they did use monoplanes but it's the bi- and tri-planes that stick in my mind. And that big many-many-winged contraption they came up with one time

mullet - Not so much a mis-use, more of a different-use

Dood515 - Welcome to Dakka, and to my twisted little corner of it. Thanks for taking the time to go through the whole lot, glad to hear you enjoyed it. You do get the benefit of it appearing to be good progress when reading it all - be prepared for a much more sedate pace here in real-time.
Thank you for the compliments, make yourself at home and enjoy the show.
There should be some nibbles around somewhere - probably best to get some light on whatever you pick up before popping it in your mouth though

vik - I'd guess he's a little smaller though?

ldd - I thought he was comparing Oskar to the dog rather than the wrestler to be honest.

vik - What you get for looking at his lego with a contemplative eye

neil - You try taking Amber to somewhere like that for a romantic weekend you may find your allowance getting cut again

So did mine

Yeah, toyed with both those concepts before, will come back to something similar soon.

vik - Nah, nuffink wrong wiv da good ol' 'elf service round 'ere.

Brian - I know, it's an x-wing. From the REAL Star Wars. It's a design classic.
It's also a cheap-as-chips snap-fit kit which needs a lot of attention to be worthy

Think of it as a mercy killing.

I'll try to cull a few more of the poor things before we're done here.

dstein - Absolutely. Although as I said earlier, there could be a bit of fun to be had detailing and lighting one. Don't expect to see that done anytime soon though, just a random thought.

vik - Agreed.

lindsay - Thanks a lot! To be honest, so had I Anyway, as most are still lacking paint they'll be coming round again at some pont

So it's a good day at work when you get back to your desk and find boxes from FW and Wayland games sitting there

The last few evenings have seen me busy clipping sprues and examining new bits. Lots of goodness in the Talos box, and interesting stuff from the hurricanum - although less pieces than I expected, it's all crammed on two sprues. BW has some nice bits too, plenty of embryonic ideas coalescing there.

Finished off the swivel-bridge:

Not the greatest pics, a lot of the oil and rust isn't showing properly.

And an orky ping-pong bat

Finished off another little shack-thingy:

Quick'n'easy, I'm liking these little shacks a lot Should really have taken a different shade for the tarp to add a bit of contrast, but hey-ho. Corrugated iron was heasvy catachan green drybrush over black, followed by light drybrushes of chainmail and silver. Thin black wash all over, then sepia and flesh in spots, 2 rust powders to finish.

Pulled out an old bit of terrain made with polystyrene packing, added some junk and re-painted it:

Rough'n'ready, but it'll do

And started in on another shack:

May need to pull a few more mini-discs apart

edited in a desperate bid to stave off the spelling-bees. I can hear them buzzing...

nice suply haul there mate!... must yet again cost you a fortune^^

but i bet there is quite some nice stuff in it to see you through lots of tiny projects! and some grnad for that matter^^

the new/old shack looks very good... the still unpainted too... i am not too sure about the melted look on the styro...but i think different weaponsystyms can eyplain a lot of melting to concrete but where this lil terrainpiece really pops is the bright looking (in comparrision) details of junk you added... keep them exactly as they are now... they look fantastic!!!

and the swivvelbridge is a very cool idea mister!

cheers, vik

The fact you can churn those shacks out so well, so fast, is both impressive and infuriating in equal measure! Nice job. Lmk if you more mini discs to destroy.

The shacks are great, and love what you've done with the polystyrene - so many similar pieces just look like painted packing crates, but yours is dead on. And still super jealous of all your rust. Dunno how you fit all this stuff in your boat!?

Rogue - Cheers buddy! These little shack things are very cool, loads of fun and easy to build

vik - The proceeds of all those long hours I was doing for the first couple of months this year

Cheers! The melted poly was supposed to represent weathered, crumbling plascrete, best I could do with the polystyrene back then - this was one of the first bits of 40k terrain I made I thought about roughing it up a bit more, and maybe adding a bit of my dust-sand to the worn areas, but decided to just leave it in the end As you say weapons of the 41st millenium may have strange effects on materials.
I class the junk in the same 'details' cateory as the bits I added to the shack - they're what bring the piece to life so to speak.

Danke!

graven - The fact that I can churn those shacks out so well, so fast, is indicative of how easy they are I'm sure there are plenty of peeps out there who could produce dozens of these things per session
I still have a few old ones I'm happy to destroy, plus a few still sealed. I'm wondering if I recycle them all does that mean I should recycle the player too But I'll drop you a pm if I get a mad rush on and use my stash up

Gits - Cheers bud! It was originally going to get gearing along the bottom of the revolving part, but that would have undoubtedly meant it sitting half-completed for half an eternity Wondering what other rotating goodies need a Pringles can base now

neil - Thanks man. Does that make you the Giant Haystacks of referenced do-dads and whajamacallits?

See, neil knew it was plascrete

Guts - Thank you! It's the details that make the pieces - and with terrain it's easy to get away with a few just to make it all come together

ldd - Thanks and...thanks Glad the paint-jobs are doing it for you - painting terrain seems so much quicker and easier (well - quicker when it comes to tiny, teeny, simple little constructions ).

Probably be a couple of weeks till I start on the grot-bolt, exams next week so lots of revision/cramming coming up for most of the time between. But as I've mentioned it (or rather ldd did ) I'm still undecided on how to proceed with it/them. I was toying with the idea of building it pretty much the same as the concept, with that cockpit and no pilot - more as a stand alone model. I have still to find the warboss' little snotling to check him for size - but I was also wondering what to actually build it as if it is a grot-fighta for my guys.
Deff-kopta or storm-boy seem the obvious choice, yet they both have choppas and I haven't come up with a solution I'm really happy with. Chainsaw blades on the wing-tip is the best so far, and although I like it, it's moving away from the first image I had - which is not unusual, but that initial concept build went effortlessly together and really struck a chord with me.
Hence toying with maybe a small dio, just the fighta on a runway type of thing...

Scarp - Cheers mate, I've still got my eye on your skips

Hmmm, we likes it rusty, don't we my pwecious?

Umm, with increasing difficulty Seriously, this terrain larks great fun an' all, but I'm running out of room for mini's, let alone buildings and the like

Llama - Well, that all depends on how much dakka the law has

So, let's see if there's anything to show you then...

Hmm, not a lot, but here goes:

Current state of the next shack:

And the next:

Not decided on a canvas or metal roof for this one yet.

And a quick'n'cheerful conversion

Not all there yet, but almost - as I said, this one's quick'n'cheerful I'll probably come back to this idea later with a nob, do some justice to the leather jacket.

And then there's this guy:

.......Who will be sitting like this:

.......In this:

Hope no-one was expecting a real orky ping-pong bat

The front will have a TIE style cockpit window, there'll be a couple of consoles in front of the driver, and a turret at the back of the 'cab'.

Hmm, yep, that's about it....

Gits - Cheers fella!!

ldd - Thanks dog! There'll be a few little details like knee and shoulder pads, maybe a bit of tattered sleeve, but it was supposed to be a quick job As stated I'm sure I'll come back to that concept of neil's with a nob, need to get some more practice at sculpting jackets

It's not that big, it's just a trukk

neil -

tipios - Thanks man! It's all in the details I hope so

weety - Now see, I was thinking of this trukk as a rather simple job really That's a kitchen roll sat on some chimmy tracks, with some 1:76 tracks under the front. Wasn't thinking it was going to be anything spectacular or huge

Of course, we've all seen that my sense of scale isn't always that good when I'm just building and not comparing

Well, they're more matchsticks before they've been dipped in phosphorus An old bag of modelling matchsticks that I used to use for all sorts of building back when I was a teen. Still going strong - I secretly believe it's a different bag and I've forgotten buying a replacement.

A few matchsticks and some scraps of plasticard/card/junk and instant shack - cheap, quick, easy and loads of fun - just as terrain should be Get to it girl!

dstein - Thank you sir! I believe there is, but I'm hoping it's still a long way off Yeah, you'll have a load of fun with those

vik - Man you should have seen the bail vid

Nothing to show tonight, but my hobby time has unexpectedly popped back into existence - I haven't been registered for my exams so I'll be doing them in November now. Which means a whole week of exams then - one a day Mon-Fri. I'm not sure I did that even when I was back in school That's not going to be fun. And just found out that my best friends, who have been a couple since we were all cadets together, are splitting up. So yeah, been an interesting day.
