What would be really cool it a pic of all your completed models and terrain just to see the full scale of all you have completed. If I ever played you I dont think I would win. I would be to busy checking out all your conversions and be to distracted to play.

By the way. Did that unit of grots I sent to infiltrate your house ever make it? They still havn't reported back to me.

Cor, bit dusty in 'ere then innit?

Not dead, not in jail, not living on the streets, not yet...

Mixture of things kept me away - Work, Skyrim, New Vegas, Oblivion, Breaking Bad and a general loss of interest in the hobby - a short-term loss I hasten to add, I know I'm not the only one who gets them.

Pretty hectic in the next few months too, so things will move slower than usual round here till Mid-November, but hopefully a bit faster than they have the last few months.

I have exams in Nov, and by my current reckoning I have to go through 4 chapters a week till then, more as I have one weekend away, and then I get a Mon-Fri of exams. I really thought all that malarky was decades in my past

Right, I believe I have some replies to take care of:

weety - If you have lollysticks and matchsticks then you have planks and beams - get to it.

Although a boat's cool too. I've been watching some guys with their RC boats down here and thinking that a RC sub with torps and a camera would be a thing of beauty

Scarp - He tried sitting at the back first, and to be fair it made no difference what-so-ever to his driving. But he couldn't see the stuff he was blowin' up and shootin' up, so he moved to the front
Hmm, that would go nicely with the white radar sphere I was planning for the back

Cheers mate. I'd rather have them spread out as nothing (and I mean that ALMOST literally) is being retained and my one hope is to rely on cramming immediately beforehand and short-term memory. Which is a bugger over a week.

wazzoo - Cheers! Look forward to seeing what you do with it - I've yet to catch up on your blog, no doubt at your speed it was done and sealed an age ago

HAZ - Thanks. Good job I didn't show you the 'swing-ball' set then I've no doubt it's been updated many times since. I'll catch up soon

beware... - Thank you, and welcome to the monkey-house.

Skalk - Thanks man. Those little shacks are great fun to do - you can add all sorts of haracter to the entire thing with just one or two items as it's all so compact.
I've been catching up on your terrain thread, somehow I'd missed it till now. And yes I can see the link in your sig.

schank - Good to see you again buddy. Even if I missed you by 3 months. Damn.

Weren't there some complete shots in that big ol' update a coupla pages back? Nothing added since then except what, maybe two of those little shacks?

No I'm fairly sure you'd win. I'd be too distracted by the fact that every time you did something I'd be going 'well, that's different to how I remember RT working', and then I'd get distracted by talking to you about the minis. TBH I think it would just be a couple of blokes randomly moving toy soldoers about making 'pew-pew' noises

Not heard anything of them yet, but having said that, the guys I had out looking for them haven't been seen in quite a while. Strange

So, I found time to start catching up on Dakka the other week, and one of the things that got my attention was the cookie terrain comp

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/467554.page

And I figured I might be able to scrape enough time and energy together to do something there, so after going out and buying some cookies I had a cup of tea and ate some.

Lovely they were.

Hmm? Oh sorry, been a while, forgot how this worked. It's some S&M you wanted wasn't it? P&M you say?
P&M, S&M what's the difference?

Adventures in cookie-land:

After all the cookies are gone (feel free to use another container if you can't manage all of them in one sitting),a liberal coat of pva and some card strips cut from the box went inside to help strengthen the plastic. Once dry it was glued down to a piece of foam board and a piece of plasticard stuck to one end where it was a bit battered.

The battery compartment from my old camera was a nice fit against one end, with further details being added from card stock and the cellophane wrapper from the cookies.

Bit of pipework and cabling is always important. Cables on the battery compartment were also from card stock, peeled a layer of and twisted it. Some model ship railings provided the rooftop supports, cable from a necklace.

Then it got some colours layed down.

And then the sponge came out to play

Some attention was directed towards the pipework.

And work continues.

Couple of weeks left, should get it done in time.

Just as long as nothing else catches my eye.

If the flyboyz are going to get orf tha grahnd then landing pads might be useful Probably more for in their take-off pad rule to be fair, but you know.

See you occasionally....

Heck monkeytroll, that was a swiftly done piece of terrain - musta been all the hobby energy stored up from months of abstinence. It looks superb and totally non-biscuit tray-ish. It is totally believable as some kind of substation/water treatment thingy.

Well that's me told anyway - I better dig out those lollypop sticks and get some matches. So many projects.

vik - Cookies aren't meant to be kept.

weety - Ahh, the old post-it-all-at-once trick I'm afraid. It was a week or so's work, it went up on the comp thread, but I wasn't sure if I'd be doing anything else so didn't show it here.

...and so little time. What happened to the life of leisure we were all supposed to be leading by now? I'm sure I was told robots would be doing all the work and I'd be able to devote all my time to toy soldiers and jet-pack racing.
Jet-packs!

Where's my fething jetpack?

Gits - Thank you! I used plastruct elbows for the bends, the tubes a little thicker than I'd like to bend myself with good results.

graven - Fudges Lemon Zest Biscuits.

Cheers!

Baiyuan - Thanks man! That's just the first layer - the dark flesh represents the primer, with the majority of the rust coming from powders in this case.

Zeke - Cheers. Use what you've got to hand, it's cheaper

Big Boss Grimbad - Thank you. Go for it, perfect opportunity for insane orky shenannigans

storag - Thanks man!

So, got distracted today.

Did a bit to the supports for the landing pad:

Not too many 'patches' on these, they're in pretty good nick. Apart from the pile of cables spilling out the side and the broken pipes

And I built a little do-dadd :

Nothing fancy, just a xmas-cracker spinning top wrapped in plasticard, with a couple of bits.

But I did continue with highlighting the chips on the generator, round to the other side now.

Whilst I was doing that I also did a bit of this:

Just need to 'furnish' it now

I also put a bit of coloured liquid on the supports:

A bit rough'n'ready still, but you get the idea. Maybe.

And most of the exchanger done:

Thanks for stopping by, I'll try and save some of the next batch of cookies

Fantastic Monkey! I love the cooling tower! Your rust is, as always, phenomenal! For your generator for Vik's contest, did you find a way to use the foil wrapper at all?

Gits - Cheers bud!Like everything else of mine, they come together well right up ntil the last point, where they inevitably stall

Dave - Thanks man. To be fair, most of the rust on those was powders, quick and easy stylee

Yes I did:

The cloth hanging over the supports was part of the cellophane wrapper. Not ideal as it doesn't lie properly over the support, it's a bit too bulky for cloth, but it'll do.

The cloth's a bit better this side, but that's because it's a smaller piece The tarp on the ground is also from the cellophane

A couple of coats of pva (with a drop of washing-up liquid to break the surface tension) and it's fine for paint. I'd expect the foil type wrappers to act the same.

No distractions today

Well, except for any hobby stuff, as this was supposed to be a pure study day.

Oh and the fact that I found an old Space Marine building (First incarnation of Epic for you youngsters) that could potentially be pressed into service as some sort of maintenance gubbins:

A Zinge vent, a Leman exhaust and a few bits of plasticard, nice and simple. I know there's a few more of these lying around so if the final piece looks OK there's some more cheap terrain

Playing with the terrain (what? that's what it's for ) and I liked the look of the truss going from the support to the generator, so I'll look into making a similar tower for connecting to various bits:

Don't want to fiddle with the genny to make the truss load-bearing (so it could take a gantry) but just like the look of it, perfect for hanging a sign off or just some chains.

Got a bit stuck with what to put in the shack, didn't want to do anything complex, so it just got some stikk-bomms and a knife.

Also realised I'd missed showing how the leather was being kept in place, so added some rivets. Badly.
I was a bit messy with the superglue - went straight from the tube instead of using a cocktail stick and got white, shiny bits of glue around the rivets.
Be careful when gluing on painted surfaces
A layer of varnish followed by a pva/devlan mix and a coat of sepia seems to have sorted it somewhat.
Not a great deal of character to this one, but then again, not every little shack in a shanty-town part of the sprawl-slum is going to be imbibed with character, so

Jack found that not all the kiosks at the fun-fair were quite so welcoming...

And finished off the exchanger tower:

And with Drilla-Killa for scale:

Just noticed the wires need a wash to dirty them down a bit.

The cool battered appearance fo the tower was a nice accident. Caught in a buiding frenzy I glued the tower down before spraying the inside, which is clearly visible through the fan. It therefore got a really heavy spray through the fan, and through the hole in the centre of the UMD it was based on The concentration of paint in the enclosed space warped the thin plastic I'd used on this and, hey presto, battered sides

And the Epic building with a lick of paint to see how it hangs together:

And for scale we let Transplant Feva chase Drilla-Killa round it Scooby-Doo style

'She turned me into a squig!'

'A squig?'

'I got better.'

An entire Epic 40k box set, buildings and all, plus an entire Epic Guard Armored company unpainted, a Warmaster box set, A pile of GURPS books, All of which are worth a fortune now, but in 2000-2001-ish, was not worth too much I didn't know what I had

Brian - Look very nice, but I've just skimmed the thumbnails and looked at a couple for now, don't need any extra inspiration right now

Gits - We played a bit back in the day, mainly using superhero and cowboy themes as I recall. Never really made it into our regular playlist though, can't recall why.

Not a lot to report, but decided to go the graffiti route with the support.

A few more words then another round of washes and that'll do. That and a bit of work to the pipes and the green plate, maybe a light touch of rust across the whole thing.
