Damn, must have mis-counted posts

Figured I try for an index on page 50, to aid navigation through the random jump cuts that make up my hobby stuff. As is probably fitting for this blog, I started out with one idea, went through sveral others and ended with a bit of a random thing.
It'll probably need editing a few times before it's quite right - I went back and re-started it several times as I changed what I was doing. I think that most entries (I've gone for monthly) mention any major modelling/painting bits, a few interesting things that came up in discussion, and a bunch of random stuff that caught my eye.

I've added a few pics, so there's stuff to look at, even if they're old pics - a couple of 'choice' items from each month.

The wise words entries, started as useful or important advice from others, but again morphed into random sentences that caught my eye as I was re-reading, and yes I have qouted myself a few times - it's my blog, I can do that if I want.

Hopefully it's useful to someone (me, probably), or at least mildly entertaining

Apologies in advance for any layout issues/lack of orkmoticons and anything else that results from me trying to set this all up as a text doc and not re-proofing the whole thing in preview

OK, roll VT...

TV/Films: MacGyver

Wise Words: weety - The spell checker says there is no such words as slicey cutty, stupid spell checker.
Arakasi - though Chorlton looks like a boy with a Nob arm (could just be the photo angle...) and the first Nob (woz 'iz name?) looks like a Nob with a Boyz arm (pretty sure this isn't the photo angle
me - Even when you're a bionik killing machine with inbuilt multi-spectral targeting, metal jaws, a telescopic waist and a small tank for legs, there's something comforting about wielding a piece of rusty pipe.
This is just another sad example of what happens when a perfectly average hyper-violent fungoid life-form gains access to guns and knives and cybernetic mono-wheeled prosthetics. Do you know where YOUR orcs are?
Hey, it's the wacky monsters that are the draw here, not the in-depth analysis

May (22-23)

Is it a grot-hawk? Is it a grot-tank? No, it's Upzag! Well, part of him.

Wise Words: Arakasi - Right... first - you need to slice off the screen from TV Head and magnetise several plasticard replacements - that way you can change his face to match his (or your) mood!
schank - Every ork should have his own dolly.
me - Finally found a use for an ultrasmurf piece too
Because as everyone knows, buying more junk is far more conducive to completing constructs than, you know, actually working on them and stuff.

Comics: Watchmen,

Old-Skool: 2

Wise Words: weety - mmmm pink wafer biscuit and tea...
paint him you know you want to
me - Unfortunately the steering is a bit wonky, the pilot's only got one arm and the navi-gunner is just bemused by the sparkly lights on his console. Flight 010 from Orkadia City may have delays....

Old-Skool: 4

Video Games:Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2,

Wise Words:weety - Yes - someone needs to fill his gap with a plastic member
I did actually click on your blog this morning, scrolled down for a while absent mindlessly, and then got confused and wondered whose thread I was looking at. The sudden rush of paint is very cool
The Good Green - Say... is that a skaven skirt on that ork?
Gits - Love the ultra-diaper....
CK - I find the idea of an angry ork stomping off mid-operation highly entertaining
me - Sometimes when you get an idea, it's worth just laying the parts down together, see if the scale works Otherwise, you might end up with this situatuion.
Colour, shading - A modeller craves not these things, mmmm.
Lemon slice is optional. Tea isn't.
but Arakasi prodded me to try a bit more colour back at the start, and hey, whaddaya know, I liked it.

October (35-37)

Squig hound and fighta get some brush love. Hubble Deep Field View. Some fisherman's jumper girls make a suprise visit from scarper's blog.
Packages.Orc head anyone? Handwriting and my own 'special' gallery search?

Old-Skool:1

Wise Words: vik - it was and will be my secret fomula to get hot wimmen into my lair...er...dang no it isn´t secret anymore...

November (38-39)

A few boyz. The riveters get loose. A hiatus due to lack of connectivity.

TV/Films: HHGTTG, The Mighty Boosh

Wise Words: weety - Leg-arm, tube-legs, Massive serrated cleavers, star-trekish visor - all things which are good to look at early on a monday

Wise Words: weety - Interesting helmet that nobb has.
CK - and don't mind the size; few people make an issue out of it
Arakasi - A bit more odds and ends and you'll have your very own Lair ov da Astrorkmancer!
neil - Subtle has now left the building ..
Jihad_Ragsta - So I removed the filter only to discover... You might actually be slightly mad.
vik - your work is totally inspiring in some weird ways^^

me - the grey panelled stuff is from Wills, a railroad terrain manufacturer. And those walls are from their 'finecast' range. They should look to set their IP lawyers on GW

January 2012 (42-45)

weety rumbles me for the evil wizard with shrink ray that I really am - curses. Platform for the outpost - plus some sort of colouring medium, paint I think it's called? A quick plug for Anvildude's company.
Supply drops. Checks - why did it take so long? Upzag's transport gets some bits. Swappable madness this way lies. Lil' Bob floats around waiting for some manipulators.
Plasticard reproductive cycle. An arm for Upzag - that moves and stuff!Tiny piston drilling - the cause of mucho swearing in the workshop. Tek-Masta 'Stumpy' Gutwerkz finally starts his journey to the cold of Scotland.

Wise Words: CK - Oh, and madness + attention to detail = genius
Tortured-Robot - Rivets are always a good thing.
neil - I must be in the wrong blog .. Humans !! (me - Don't think of them as humans. Think of them as field rations.)
Arakasi - Outstanding job! The only flaw is that it won't see play...
vik - that looks totally 80´s and i mean that in all the respectful and admirational way i could muster! and it isn´t even finished!!!
i think what you now have found made you loose something lese...sanity...but well... that was always not overly treasured i assume^^
lone dirty dog - Your combination of parts seems ridicules at times but some how always works you really are the mad hatter of this hobby

Wise Words: shaso - Nice, I was first thinking the long pipe protected the Orky string-n-can comms set so it wouldn't get cut so easily.
weety - I've really gotta get out of retail. Work in a morgue maybe.

March Hmmm

Due to a chronic anomaly in the space-time continuum, March decided to skip this area....

April (49-??)

Great to see you back, monkey! Mindblowing seeing all your work together like that, not to mention all the TV discussions and 'wisdom'. You should put it all together in some kind of madman's primer! Did it feel good to get a lookover everything like that? I sometime find that modelling a huge project like this is sometimes such slow progress that it can be a little demoralising

The new terrain looks great, and you're a true mek with all the scavenging. As long as you didn't smash the drawers apart to get at the girders, you've still got a little sanity about you.

Glad that went well

OK, some replies.

From before the catch-up:

Gits - Thanks a bunch man. Be nice if it occasionally gave me a chance to finish something before charging off on the next thing, but hey-ho

Graven - My laptop's not that bad... . Many thanks.

Arakasi - Thank you, and don't worry, there'll be plenty of lootin' going the other way too

ldd - Cookies and terrain all in one handy package - what more could you ask?

Yep, pleased with the drawer runners myself, have to rootle around a bit back at my folks, I'm sure I have some more from other dismantled furniture somewhere..

Well the thinking is that the area the orks are in was once part of a kind of shanty-town area of a hive, where a lot of buildings had already been re-cycled from various silos. There'll be other shapes too though, won't all be round.

vik - Cookies are always highly valuable

Glad to be back vik, glad to be back

zinge - And your bits are most excellent for playing with sir

I used to fill packages like that with plaster too, but the aerosol foam's a good idea, nice and light too.

vik - That just means you get to go and buy stuff for interesting packets again

Selvaggio - Thank you, and nice to be back. Orkses is green, we's da tuffest re-cykla's around.

dstein - Cheers bud. Loot away, when I eventually catch up with the umpteen pages I've missed on your blog I'm sure I'll be stealing stuff back

neil - Thanks man, good to see you back on form too. And knew I could rely on you for some bad punnage.

bigfish - Believe me, it's a relief to me too

And after:

Arakasi - Cheers! It does look like a viable force with progres being made like this

Well, there's not been so much happening here recently You and all the others have been an enormous help both in terms of actual input and the motivation to keep going and keep upping the game. Plus it was the combined might of yours, CK's and Panic's blogs that pushed me from lurker to member

And hopefully there'll be some more stuff finished by then

Gits - Thanks man, it was a blast going through it again myself.

Scarp - A madman's primer? You don't need a primer for going mad, you just go mad It's not generally something you plan out carefully beforehand (not that I recall anyway...), and once you're mad you just KNOW what to do
It was fun checking out what I had actually done, but it did get depressing to see how long some of the unfinished stuff has been in it's current state And let's face it, even little projects take a long time over here. I'm looking at you Dakka-cyber-squig-hound...

But I can get by without drawers I tell you, they're just a tool of the secret government...

vik - So much ...unfinished Glad you enjoyed it.

Goresaw - Warms the cockles of my oil filter to hear that

ldd - Thank you. It's like Edison said - To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.

Selvaggio - Cheers, glad you liked the catch-up.

neil - Thank you. And most of the quotes did come from you good fellows, so ..well done you

Fantastic poster, thanks for that, I'll start bit-hunting tomorrow

vik - ^^

And, lo, he did bring forth more stuff...

Almost there:

Bit of tidying and some detailing at either end to go.

Metal tread:

Played around with some effects for bare metal treadplate. Base coat of bronze/copper mix (3:1), drybrush of silver/bronze mix (2:1 maybe), devlan wash, drybrush of silver. Vallejo grey and black washes blended straight onto surface with water, emphasis on the grey. When that's almost dry some flesh and sepia in a few areas, and a touch or two of green, which is lightly wiped with a tissue to remove most of it. The grey wash is proving very useful for dirtying bare metal.

Walkway:

And the top to the brassy/concrete thing. It's a rotating bridge, with a pringles can as the basis, the lid rotating to turn the bridge. Some detailing still required on the top gubbins, and the tread plate needs attention.

Beach-hut:

Started in on the yellow paint chips in earnest. Even though I've only base coloured the blue and red
I'll need different methods for more heavily weathered (read really battered) walls, but thought I'd try a couple like this.

Also need to dig around my ecals and such for some markings on some of the silo's and metal scraps. May have to try masking and spraying some too.

Boyz:

See, I said there was SOME colour going on some mini's too. There's a few more in similar states (some with less flesh work, some with more colours) and a servo-grot who I should get finished tomorrow, so he ducked out of the pic.

And that's about the size of it...

That green poly tunnel looks rather nice , i have often wondered if i could make food packaging look like real terrain ,

Does anyone else think the ork on the bottom left look like he is striking a Saturday night fever pose

1. - You are WAAAAY too organized man!! -Try decaff

b. I can't believe how simple, yet how effective your screwheads are! I am so impressed, I intend to steal this idea immediately!

3. Your terrain is just knocking my socks off man! All that great use of round structures...I need to vary shapes on my table, so you should expect some stealage then too!

IV. Same goes for the waethering, simple, yet very effective...Did you just scrape down to the basecoat?

5. You have a real talent for styling and your buildings are full of character dood!

neil - 'Course you can Just need the right bit of packaging and proper preparation.

Or you could do it like me and see what you get

That is actually a plinth at the local Ritzy he's just climbed on you know

vik - Let's just see how long it keeps up for

dstein - ÂŁ. That has got to be the most unlikely phrase to have ever been directed at me In what strange manner are you referring to my organisational skills?

%. Not even intentional the first time Accident caused by trying to pick rivets up with a scalpel whose blade was still good but whose point was blunted Looked ok, did it again

3. Steal away. I'll be looking for some more girder-work style to loot from yours

Y. Yep. Then leave it out in the rain for a few days for the rust effects.

!!. Thanks bud!

And ever onwards....

Done. Absolute nightmare trying to get a decent pic of the metallic walkway. The turquoise was too vivid for verdigris here, should have watered it more or used a greener hue. It'll do though

And 'finished' the grot.

Burt Wheelydink at your disposal sir.

Except as soon as I saw the pics I realised I hadn't done the last few washes.

And got some movement going back on the trukk.

Mainly weathering, but I also finished off the dakka turret and have started switching a couple of colours. I also had to do some emergency repairs after dropping it . Of course it'll be fine balanced on on knee for a moment

Both wheels, one suspension unit, the front plate and some minor bits came off. And now the wheels are even less aligned than previously.

mullet - It wasn't already ramshackle enough Damn, I'll try harder next time

Rogue - Cheers man. Most of my tread-plate is either 1:25 or 1:50, but there's possibly a few other unknown scales floating around too.

ldd - Thanks dog!
Yeah, a few balancing judgement issues recentl, I tried balancing some open sepia wash on top of some other round topped bottles the other day too. Luckily there were no painted mini's nearby

Yep, gotta keep trying those cookies till you find the right package. It's a hard life being a modeller you know
As an additional point to that, it transpires the many ridged packet that made the green walkway building was actually from Fudge's cheese wafers. I re-discovered that when I bought a packet the other day.

vik - Good to know I'm not disappointing vik I'm positive your viktorians will find a cunning use for such a sidearm.

weety - Even managed to get some colour in there for you

neil - Yes, there is....

I think he was even mentioned in the catch-up And now I've picked him up again, maybe he'll join the painting queue again.

So, these wi-fi dongle thingies are no fun, let me tell you

Since the weekend nearly every time I try to reply to a post, or upload pics the connection drops. And when it's there it may as well not be - was averaging 24 kbps earlier Took me an hour and a half to upload the pics below, and it's not like they're killer pics or anything

In other news, my New Vegas game has been corrupted and crashes whenever I try to enter the Strip I'm at 98hours and the last save that will let me enter is at 62 hours . I may just start a new character already.

So, been working on this guy:

To go on this base:

And slowly progressing on a few others...

And dithering over the castor-buggy

Not the actual pieces to be used (excepting the bubble for the second), but the 2 basic concepts I'm contemplating. Cockpit in front with dakka mounted behind, or bubble canopy in the middle with dakka (likely rokkits in this case) either side.

And toying with an idea :

The incredible exploding Mister fisti-gun, would it look better with added effects?

That's a rough idea of what I was thinking, maybe even having a couple of fragments of the barrel embedded in the bang?

Now, this little dude here:

...who was a wip in the above shot, is now finished I believe. The first shots I tried to upload the other day, don't worry I've not suddenly developed weety-like speed painting skills. He is a very small chap indeed, based on the OLD LotR gollum (late 80's).

Actually, I don't think I've finished the rivets on his gun-arm. OK, almost finished.

And the grot on lookout has managed to evolve a bit further too:

Well, that's most of the evening spent hitting the refresh button to try and clear the 'internet explorer cannot display this page...'

thqat wheel chair chap is just very disturbing i cant decide what to think of him...

the mister exploding fist... definatly do an effect for the explosion...am i right that this stand in is just for the basic shape of the blast? it will see paint at one point? if so then i think you are on the right way... will look comicesque but i think that is only fitting with so many weirdness with your minis...

the ex-gollum looms very fitting to the gang... if you´d had painted the fish red you could have used it as a protosquigg^^

and the lookout i like a lot!

cheers...you are a very productive man of late!

Gits - Glad to play Santa for you When I first tried replying I had a comment about the weather being like December, but this morning it's nice and sunny, so I'll skip that

vik - Interesting, didn't have Chorlton down as disturbing. Granted, the idea of a head being kept alive by machinery is slightly disturbing. And when you add violent fungoid based alien lifeforms and heavy weaponry into the mix the level of disturbing-ness (it is so a word, you all have whack, out-of-date dictionaries ) rises a bit more, but other than that base state there's not a lot more

Yeah, that was just to see how it looked. I'll either re-model another blast, or add some more flame-tendrils (OK, you got me there, I'm not sure that's the correct terminology) to that one. I want a couple of bits of barrel shrapnel in there too as I'm worried the blast hides the split barrel, making it look like he's falling over due to recoil from some extra-bangy ammo.
Which isn't a bad look, just not the one I'm aiming for.

Interesting idea, I may have to go back and re-look at that little fishy

Thanks, just felt I wanted a few more interesting bases scattered around.

Just trying to make up for lost time

graven - Don't worry, that's just the name he travels under, his nom-de-urrgh if you like I know I'm going to kick myself when you tell me, I can feel a little meme-squig running around my hind-brain telling me I know the answer, but I'm not parsing that reference right now. But I have only had one cup of tea so far.

dstein- Oh man, sorry for the confusion, should have made that clearer - getting bewildered by bemusing bakery based befuddlements can be extremely hazardous to the unprepared. They're cheese wafers, made by Fudges. That is, a company called Fudges, rather than 'those biscuits you've got there were made by that bunch of fudges over there.'

'Disturbingly fascinating' I like

Out of interest, are you guys finding Chorlton more or less disturbing than this guy:

Ok, so Friday night's hobby time was mainly spent catching up on Gits' awesome MW blog, which I'm sure need no introduction to most of you (if it does, then I suggest you have a peek in his sig a few posts up ). Yesterday's hobby time just seemed to evaporate with me diging through bits. Not looking for anything in particular, just having a bit of a rummage.

Did get a little done though.

Thought some smaller structures might be nice.

Based on an old mini-disc to keep in with the CD basing

And it now looks like this:

Base needs finishing, plus some touch-ups and adding some interior bits.

Well, as I'd pulled apart a minidisc to get the actual disc out. I had some bits of plastic case left over. Might as well find a use for them eh?

Klub Grottz - somewhere for the littl'uns to relax.

Who knows, may get some more stuff done today, we'll see....

i quite like the sound and implication of living fire to this...in the olds days fire was considered to be alive...well only fitting to have methapors in that direction then!

and yep...that new chap is also quite disturbing...but as you stated ...when dealing with orks... you are already pretty much high on the matter of distrurbing-ness^^ so there is little chance to raise the bar even more^^

the new quickly done buiding...the two walled one looks very good! it is almost one of my favorite now as i think the boards look very nice and all those nice details (well orkyness of nicety) give that small shed a nice feeling...the more i look at it the more i am astinoshed about the fact that there is nothing to complain about it... i know i am sometimes rather blunt with critizism but here i am totally liking that one^^
